Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think France have taken Lacazette. Their forwards are listed as Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid/Spain), Olivier Giroud (Chelsea/England), Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain), Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona/Spain), Florian Thauvin (Marseille), Nabil Fekir (Lyon), Thomas Lemar (Monaco)

I wasn't on the edge of my seat but I thought England looked good albeit against a Costa Rica team that appeared to be jet lagged. At least the players looked like they wanted to be out there and had some pride in the shirt, even if it was the wrong colour.

World Cup prediction thread on 22:49 - Jun 7 by JimmyRustler | I wouldn't even class Dier as a proper midfielder tbh and it makes Wilshere's omission all the more puzzling. Lingard puts more of a shift in tracking back than Ali for me and doesn't look like a walking yellow card when he's ready to put in a tackle. All opinions isn't it? It's also important to note that Lingard has also had a better season and looks more dangerous offensively when we advance. If we're really bothered about protection then we should be playing an extra man in midfield and four at the back but it looks like counter-attacking is gonna be the way we're gonna go so we need a bit of umph in the centre. Me Auntie's faster than Dele |
I know I'm a bit biased about Spurs but there's a lot to unpack about Dele here... Whilst I agree Lingard has been in better form this season, I would argue Dele has more quality on the ball and I would rather have an out of touch Alli in my XI than an in-form Lingard, particularly playing as a central midfielder rather than an attacking midfielder as he has more experience in playing deeper in midfield. I know numbers aren't everything but despite Lingard having his best season so far by a distance and Alli his worst in a Spurs shirt, Alli scored one more than Lingard in the PL this season and got five more assists. He certainly isn't the fastest player in the Premier League, but he's hardly slow either, and he was arguably Tottenham's best player in the win over Real Madrid where Spurs adopted the counter-attacking, scoring twice.

You make some good points. I'm a big fan of Alli, I'm just a little bit disappointed that he has't really kicked on this year but at the same time, it's easy to forget that he's only 22(!!). As I say, I would personally start Lingard over him for the reasons I've already mentioned but either way, I think they're both fine players and have a big part to play in England's future | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No doubt 442 will be along shortly to educate us as to who the winner should be. My own personal choice would have been the Dutch '78 kit, but that has already been eliminated by Englands '66 away kit.

Big shock in round 1 where Peru 78 went out to France 82 - both great kits though.
