Stockport C. vs Chesterfield 20:50 - Nov 4 with 26275 viewsD_Dale

At half-time in tonight's replay that will decide Dale's FA Cup opponents, Stockport lead 2-0. A pity in a way as Dale would probably have stood a better chance of beating Chesterfield. Still, whichever side it is, the winners will face a big challenge to prepare for Saturday.

And he had a poke about Darlington’s corpse too :)

Hey, Fitz, there's a cracker on that Stockport messageboard.

Apparently, because you've mentioned the AWS game in 1995, all Dale fans (the mysterious "they") should remember our re-election applications and struggles in Division Four.

That would be Dale's six re-election applications versus Stockport's five.

It seems the poster hasn't realised fans of different ages and eras post on here.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Haha. It’s very sad really. We’d better beat them today or we’ll never hear the end of it.

Oh the Carlisle game brrrr. Brings back such bad memories. Stockport would have to be up there on my dislike list but certainly not the hate list. The writing was on the wall for them after buying their way to the playoff win. Was nice to see their demise based on the behind scenes shambles (early bury and notts cheaty). I feel a loss today will bother them more than us as they are a bit, well meh and insignificant these days

Dear oh dear. Perhaps they ought to look back at their failed re-election attempt many moons ago when they weren't re-elected and kicked out of the league? ?

I got to know quite a few Stockport fans around the time of the Wembley game. General banter and mickey taking apart, those in the know were genuinely concerned that the trust-run club was overstretching itself. (bury anyone?) They were the decent fans. The club was refusing good offers for the like of Hamshaw and Dickinson and gambling that promotion would pay the bills that were stacking up. We know how that ended up. They do seem to have a higher than average number of fans with delusions of grandeur,(bury anyone?) but we just stood back and waved bye-bye when they were desperate enough to give Paul Simpson the managerial job and the inevitable financial collapse and descent to lower leagues we have never ever known took place. They know their place, they struggle to cope with it. We've been league 1 for the past seven seasons when they have been nowhere. The reasonable fans will accept that with a shrug. The deluded will froth at the mouth. And there are reasonable fans at Stockport.

Edit:
Just to correct the Stockport numpty:

They were never voted out of the old division 4 as they survived 5 elections as did several other clubs. We survived 6 as did several other clubs.
Crewe survived 7, Hartlepool survived 11.
Only 4 clubs ever lost their Division 4 place through failed re-elections. The others lost their places post-1986 through being not good enough, re-written as "someway or other" above. Stockport being one of them. An ignominy we have never suffered that they have and have never come back.

I think 5 failed re election from Div 4 -Gateshead, (replaced by Peterborough) Bradford PA (cambridge) Barrow (hereford) Southport (wigan) and workington (wimbledon)). A bunch of others failed to be re elected to Div3 North and South.

Accrington resigned from Div 4 and were replaced by Oxford.

Barrow’s was the most scandalous demotion after a hysterical campaign spearheaded by John Motson to get Hereford into the league.

Had a quick read of their board after the link posted on here. Lots of similarities with those halfwits down the road.

Delusions of grandeur, lack of intelligence that has to be seen to be believed and unbelievable paranoia about people posting on their forum (having to post a link to a social media account to register )

Special.

"Exactly that. For me, they're no more a rival than Cheltenham, Shrewsbury, Barnet or any other team we played around 2006-2008. I have nothing but absolute ambivalence towards them."

It's the bury board under a different guise.

Oooh, their own commentator has asked about the legacy of their 2008 promotion. They won't like that.

And he's just said there would have been 4000 County fans in Wetherspoons this morning had crowds been attending. Brilliant.

Stockport started really well and you have to acknowledge how good that goal was. Exactly like Beckham’s in execution.

Amazing how swapping two defensive players has made us look awful.

Jim and Keohane shouldn't be playing .

County looking dangerous every time they go forward.

Yep relentless pressing of our defence from them and excellent movement. All too casual from us. Need to up it a few gears.

And people thought they’d be tired...

One back Lundy

We changed it around and Keohane has moved out of full back into midfield. Newby skinned his man again, and a good cross to Lund.

That’s a good spot. We are almost playing without a right back with Ryan filling in when required. Interesting tactic!

Lund would have scored again if his first touch had been better from EOC’s excellent pass.

The first 20 mins all Stockport and deserved their lead. Last 15 been in our favour. A good game, if not our best performance. 1st round is becoming a bit Groundhog Day really. Non league opponents in the cup that we should “on paper” be beating but make hard work of it, again.
