Millwall v Swansea City Matchday Thread THE FINAL SAY 02:20 - Apr 7 with 14782 viewsNotLoyal

The swans are on a run of four defeats, no goals and seemingly have lost all confidence in themselves and how to deliver goals and points. Millwall are on a healthy run of form.

Nailed on home win then eh ?

EFL Championship
Saturday 10th April 2021
The New Den
Kick off 12.30pm or maybe it’s 1pm

Match Officials
ROBERT JONES
Darren Cann and Simon Beck
Fourth Official : Craig Hicks

LIVE ON SKY SPORTS

The swans are entering record breaking territory for all the wrong reasons.
Here we go ...

Longest losing streak (League): 9 matches, 26 January 1991 to 19 March 1991
Longest non-scoring run (League): 6 matches, 6 February 1996 to 24 February 1996

Who would have thought it, it’s strange how we all take things for granted when they are going well, and even stranger the people who were being hailed as the new dawn in Swansea City’s recent history are two months later being shouted down - and are very persona non grata.

Millwall on the other hand have won their last three games.

So what’s going on ?
Well, it’s like this. When you don’t score goals you draw games, when you don’t score goals and let them in you lose games. When you aren’t good enough to create chances to score goals and the other team does you lose games. If you are both shite, you draw games, but as we have seen you also lose games. This isn’t a conundrum, it’s what happens when your luck runs out, your heads are down and you feel sorry for yourself. Then you look at your bank balance, shrug your shoulders and play on your Xbox or PlayStation. It’s a great life being a loser.

A look back in anger

That’s a decent side.

Let’s go back to 2007 and Millwall v Swansea at the New Den. I chose this hame as I thought Kevin Austin was superb playing in this game. As we know he died of pancreatic cancer in 2018. Solid as a rock. Very dodgy penalty awarded against the swans, but still got the point.

Report - Roberto Martinez’s Swans extended their unbeaten run to eight games thanks to an influential performance from Paul Anderson. The on-loan Liverpool winger created the opening goal when his shot was parried into the path of Jason Scotland and the striker steered home. Millwall, under the guidance of new boss Jackett, responded through Zak Whitbread, and they went ahead 20 minutes from time thanks to Alan Dunne’s penalty. But Anderson had the final word, combining with Scotland to make it 2-2 on 78 minutes. The goal is credited to Darryl Duffy.

This game is LIVE on SKY and the club stronghold of Wales goes to Swansea City.
Just in case the 5-0 filth down the road are getting out of hand

Another masterclass in tactics and team selection today. Still the Cooper haters will want him to get the sack.

Great save and performance from Woodman should earn him a 3 out of ten from his critics.

Critics criticize when player play crap, as they should.
They should also praise them when they play well.

We have players that can play like that, two formations now, less predictable .

Roberts well earned rest

I agree, I have knocked Routs in the past for not contributing much when he comes on.
But today he showed a class above the rest, he may no longer be quick, but his passing, ball skills and keeping possession were as good as any we have seen for years.
Even Hooly contributed more today.

Routledge is a poor impact sub, never been a good omen when he's thrown on for us chasing a game.

Interesting he's stuck with four at back. I don't mind him giving Routledge a go either. Yes, he's a relic, but he's a relic from an era where we actually passed and moved and were comfortable with the ball at feet.

Maybe he can lead by example and remind the others that the football isn't a hot potato to be aimlessly punted as soon as it is received.

It seemed to work. Routledge MOM for me.

Routs is an intelligent guy, on the field and off it so he knows what he needs to do, probably be an excellent coach after he hangs his boots up. might be a little to laid back to be Head coach/Manager but who knows.

I doubted the wisdom of starting Routs, happy to have those words shoved down my throat. He was the difference today, he still has the skill if not the legs, BUT, he also has a great football brain.
He held the ball up very well, he found hid passes and he was in the right places. My only complaint now is, why does Routs have be 36! can't we wind his clock back, please?

Those goals were very good too, may have restoredthe confidence to the scorers AND the team. Now we need to kick on.

Credit to Cooper for trying another different set up, it tokk a little while but he got there and as already said, now we have different formations and tactics that work so we can change during matches if needs be.

Millwall is never an easy place to go but we dealt with it and looked pretty good too. We grew into it so now, lets keep growing!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Lol. No porridge avec cinnamon on le weekend mwsh ?

Simply play our best 11 in our proven winning formula (carbon copy of our Norwich 2-0 win, 4x shots on target).

Time for the players to draw upon all the top drawer coaching, rediscover their form, put in the hardest of yards ever, sweat blood and repay some of us loyal, faithful fans for rationally sticking with. As ever.

Swans to win 3-1.

The players delivered.

And repaid some of us fans who have rationally stuck by our wider team.

A truly massive win. Let's hope all supporters can now enjoy and get behind the team for the run-in. Like they did last year. And enjoy the unrivalled entertainment.

Despite what some think, this forum (way way above all others) absolutely plays it's part in the social media world.

Let's hope the unwarranted negativity and bile can be staved off, 'til at least the season end.

This is why Lowe plays instead of Whittaker.

Lowe has been short of confidence as most forwards do when they don’t score for a while. But he is our best option up front at the moment without a shadow of a doubt.

Whittaker’s time will come in the future. But an end of season run in isn’t the time to be starting someone so raw and inexperienced.

Well done to the players and management team today. Fantastic result and will take a bit of pressure off now.

He is our best option up front at the moment, as seen yet again today.

What Lowe has done is repaid the faith the management team has had in him. They stuck by him, which is exactly what forwards need. Those that said he was shot and needed to be benched, take note, it's not that complicated.

As Cooper said post-match : "we believe in him and trust him 100%".

And it worked, yet again.

Post of the day, nay post of the Run-in.

The players needed to step up and repay management and fans for sticking with.

Let's hope that as per last year, a massive away result against a dogged Millwall is the fillip the players needed to regain their lost confidence in their ability, and kick on with massive momentum.
