I thought 1990 was pretty average as a whole, though England’s games against Cameroon and Germany were good. That Argentinian side was almost anti-football.

‘86 was good, but the timings of the games never helped. 2018 was enjoyable.

I'm probably influenced by the fact that no-one fell asleep during the 1990 tournament

Someone else on here must be old enough to remember 66 as well as me. All part of the ‘swinging sixties’

Some great games, including the final. A great time to be a football fan in England…even if Dale did have to apply for re election.

Still got my copy of Lonnie Donegan singing World Cup Willie.

Watched the final on a 9" portable tv at a relative's where we stayed on holiday

From World Cup Willie to Nessun Dorma, eh? (For those mystified by my previous post.)

Sat and watched it with my dad on our 18” black and white tv.
That was me hooked on football from that day to this.
I was Seven at the time.

I thought 2018 was a great tournament...very few nil nils..

2022 has shown the rise of the African and Far East countries..long gone are the days of the smaller nations having bus drivers, part time Lorry drivers in their teams

1978 was great for the sheer visual spectacle ..ticker tape receptions...the great Mario Kempes..and the demise of Scotland despite Archie Gemmils wizardry.

The greatest world cup must surely be the one depicted in the best footy film of all time....Mike Bassett England manager

There's something good and bad about every world cup.
I was entranced by the Dutch team of 1974. Cruyff, Neeskens etc.
On the other hand Pele, Garrincha and Brazil were hacked out of the 1966 competition.

And tried doing the same to the Dutch in 74
Although the Dutch stood up for themselves 🤣

I was 13, as I watched with my Dad on, IIRC, a black and white Grundig TV, my pal Arthur Heap delivered the evening paper walking down the middle of the road, there was no traffic on the roads at all, everyone was glued to a TV of some sort. I have no recollection of what went on that evening other than there being some singing on the streets when the pubs turned out at about 11pm. I imagine lots had been in the pub since Kick off.

4 years later I saw the first colour TV I had ever seen in someone's house (they were in the Dawes window in Town, but I didn't know anyone who had one). About a dozen of us crammed into the front room at a lads house whose parents had gone away on holiday and we watched Brazil stroll to victory. The colour was amazing, a bit shit by modern standards but amazing at the time.

I always think 2014 gets slightly overlooked too, perhaps because of how poor England were.

But for pure drama you had the infamous 7-1, those really fun Colombia and Chile sides, a Suarez bite, the reigning champions losing their opening game 5-1 to the team they beat in the final four years before, Costa Rica getting within a shoot-out of the semis and a fair bit of Messi magic too. It was a great tournament.

Tangled up in blue.
