I don't know about anyone else but judging by the bits I saw on the television in the pub yesterday a decent League One team would give Qatar a game. In fact the regulars in the pub successfully lobbied the landlord for the snooker to be shown on the TV instead after five minutes of the second half.
It can only get better.
I know as well that we have moved on in this country but perhaps it's bit hypocritical for people into be condemning the use of cheap migrant labour given that the railways and canals here were mainly constructed by the work of itinerant labour brought in for the purpose, predominantly Irish "navvies". There are graves all along the Settle to Carlisle railway for example which are testimony to this.

It's 2022, not 1822.

As always, I've really enjoyed watching the snooker. Went to see the Lightning Seeds in Manchester on Saturday. They were brilliant and the atmosphere when they played it's coming home was fantastic. Then Sunday rolled round and I was back to being far more interested in the snooker.

I know there's a world cup on but it just doesn't feel like it.

I acknowledge that, that's why I said that we had moved on from those days.
It's just so frustrating that, whilst we protest about rights and discrimination in Qatar, that we as a nation for example jump at the chance of selling fighter planes to them.

No doubt FIFa will blame it on the England fans.

Most of FIFA is in the VAR booth? Makes you wonder how they missed an Iranian defender having his face planted in the keeper's face whilst letting him play on afterwards. Much more interested in collecting cash than looking after the legacy of the game. Just like the EFL.

Same old same old .early flight back. One thing guaranteed When Phillips gets the ball, he passes it to the nearest England player very negative.

Were the French in charge?

It seems that they all got in even though the system crashed. Just like our system at Dale from time to time.

Anyway a convincing win.

You just know though if we'd tightened up and played out for the 1 or 2-0, everyone would've been on Southgate's back for being too defensive against a poor side. He can't win!

True, it was more the ease they got in for their chances due to poor positioning and anticipation; it’s a cliche, but when we play the better teams…

Though it was a positive Southgate himself identified the areas to improve afterwards.

I wont be watching any of it. I have lost all respect for England players and that god awful manager.
The virtual signalling ( that apparently is still going to continue) , sickens me when they are playing in stadiums and driving on roads and staying in hotels that have cost a horrendous amount in human deaths.
6500 slave labourers died to put this charade on. That is way too many. Some not paid , having passports taken off them. Forced to work 12 hour shifts in unbearable heat. Living in cramped squalid containers.
If any Football player had any real guts and conviction to stop , slavery, racism , mysoginy, religious intolerance , homophobia and general freedom of speech then surely a resounding NO THANK YOU , we refuse to participate in this World cup paid for by bribes and built on blood.
I think any player refusing to go would of caused a real problem for the Woke Society in Britain.
Since How dare they not play for their country? Put up against ..Yes but he is making a real stand against the disgusting regime in Qatar. . That would be a hell of a quandary for them!
I'm not sure but in the 70's didnt some teams or players refuse to play in the national stadium of Chile , because of the deaths that occured in the military Junta. It may of been my youthful wishful thinking.
I wont be watching a single minute of it, and if England do win , to me that would be the end of International football , since who wants to be tarnished with winning this years tournament . As I said I have lost all respect for every member of that team and the manager. Same with any pundits swanning around over there. Gary Neville prime example, along with Jug Ears and David Beckham ( OMG ) I know he's numb as a p!ss stone but surely he can see the bad things out there far out weigh the games .
Sorry long rant . I'm just focusing on the Dale and hoping that January gives us a chance to freshen up the awful squad that Nice Guy Robbie has dumped on Bentley.
The Dale going down would be devasting for me ...I no longer care about the priviledged England players.

It's a shame you don't stand on such moral high ground when you are writing vile abuse of the players in the team you claim you support - and have done for many years.

You mean you STILL haven't worked out why some posts get down-ticked?

We got 6 and could have got 10!
A very good start and confidence must be sky high after a poor run of results (albeit in meaningless Nations League). Bellingham looks like the missing link from last summer where we had Rice and Phillips. Rice and Bellingham look a far better combination with Bellingham able to do the same hard work as Phillips but much more going forward. Saka, Sterling and Mount worked too. Kane never really got a sight of goal today but we'll need him if we are going deep into the tournament. Rashford's cameo was superb too - he looks back to his best. Roll on Friday.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Given the way we've set-up previously, I'd be very surprised if we're anywhere near as open against the better teams. Credit to Southgate for recognising that we don't need to play the same way against weaker teams, which has been a criticism of him and other England managers in the past.

Despite not getting the chances yesterday Kane was brilliant at creating them. Two excellent assists and potentially should have had a third with that lovely little flick up into the path of Sterling. He's so much more now than just the supreme goalscorer he was four of five years ago.

Didn't Keith Hill once say something along the lines of wanting to football teams to death? It looks like Spain have just done that to Costa Rica. 82% possession 1043 passes 976 accurate winning 7-0.

So, England not quite the world beaters we all imagined after the Iran game. Still we didn’t lose (just). I have been impressed by both USA and Canada. Their pace and energy cause a lot of problems. With decent strikers they could have gone a long way in this competition.
Talking of decent strikers; Kane, Bale, Neymar. Is too much reliance being placed in these players? Great on their day but bang average when needed. At least Brazil will be forced to name a team without Neymar because of his injury. Might be a blessing in disguise.
Rather a damning observation of Kane on the BBC Sport site - Kane Cam - Said it was relatively easy as all they had to do was point the camera at one area of the pitch for 90 mins.

Have to say, I am not panicking just yet.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

There are the better part of 900 Colleges and universities in the US offering "soccer" scholarships, and they are recruiting all over the world. The sheer number of players and the competitive nature of their matches will quickly drive the cream to the surface. They have fantastic facilities that would grace any of our premiership clubs and the MLA is teaching the UK lessons in sales and marketing, hospitality, matchday experience and a host of other related areas. This is what happens when you are able to start from scratch with proper funding and huge audience potential. It seems almost inevitable that the US will overshadow European clubs and national teams simply because they develop more players.
