Chairman's Statement on 09:48 - Feb 25 by kel

“ Some of the abuse some of the board have received online is bang out of order too. It’s no wonder they’ve taken to blocking out the noise.”

Some of the abuse directed at the Chairman online is absolutely disgusting and it’s at the point where police should be involved. People threatening to go to his house because they have his address is stepping way over the line and these people need to be dealt with. This is a bloke who has stepped up to the plate when nobody else would and he’s a family man ffs.

Yes, decisions on certain things have been wrong but is this really what the modern Rochdale fan is about? I long for the days when we had realistic supporters who understood the board were in it for the right reasons and didn’t stoop to such disgusting behaviour. If you’re reading this then I’d like to let you know you’re a pathetic piece of shite who has clearly been dragged up.

Absolutely spot on. Simon Gauge could have had a far easier life and continue to support the club as we all do, but instead he stepped up and took on the mammoth task of leading a League Two football club in ridiculously difficult circumstances.

A couple of months ago I visited my dad in Bamford and saw Simon walking his dogs. He looked like a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders and I could have cried. For people to abuse him online, threaten to go to his house and generally make him feel uncomfortable is disgraceful and I wouldn't for one minute begrudge him if he decides to step down.

What is wrong with people!?

And it’s not just so-called supporters. Some disgusting cretin posted his home address on Twitter and recommended people paid him a visit. As Kel said, that should be a police matter. For some supporters to gobble that up and actually threaten to do it is beyond belief.

As I said in my original post, these men and women did not take these positions for any other reason than to help the club. They’ve been dragged right into a mess caused by others.

However, we are now trusting them to sort that mess out and either carry on or, if they feel the desire, step down. No one would blame anyone for the latter.

Well said to you both.

These men have saved our club at great personal expense. The so-called fans you refer to should be ashamed of themselves.

Anyone who doubts JB`s efforts also needs a wake-up..

H e has inherited a bad aquad and has only managed to rweak it better because of financial constraints plus the league position problem. BBM and RS are responsible for the squad situation.

To repeat my earlier message, how much would it cost- to replace JB anyway and where is the money coming from? ÂŁ250,000. Just a guess.

Its appalling...

Whatever this season brings us all decent Dale fans will always recognise and respect the efforts put in by Simon and his colleagues..

Id like to think that at the last home game this season a gesture could be made to Simon and his colleagues show that the vast majority of the Dale fans stand shoulder to shoulder with them..

These are not the real supporters but trouble pure and simple.

I tip my hat to any like minded who people became the BoD of a troubled club, i dont know much about these people but they have a family just like many of us and no doubt a business to run aswell

They have to stand by what is the right direction for the club and ok many people will not like it but for survival it as to be done...

People need to wake up and see the situation for what it is...dire.

The abuse online is unwarranted and if it was me in their shoes i would have walked by now but these guys are tougher than me and they have to face the club issues daily where us supporters are lucky we only see match days..

So its time to wake up and bite the bullitt and support the club and more importantly support the players.....

I'm sure kel will be able to answer this for you, but some of the stuff he mentions has been all over the Dale Twitter and Facebook pages in recent weeks.

I appreciate there's been a lot of stuff on there and they will get lost in everything else, but just wait for the next defeat and it will all resurface again.

Someone even posted a video last week of George Delves needing a security escort to his car, as though said video was some kind of trophy.

It really helps nobody.

The majority of fans are supporting the club and the players have, in the main, been supported well despite this awful run.

The actions of people who think shouting the loudest with the most vitriol is not the same as those who want our club to be better with constructive analysis and criticism of where we stand. Those who do chuck abuse actually detract from the importance of fans having a voice where their valid points and that constructive criticism are vital to supporting the club.

It’s staggering that some think hurling obscenities etc at people trying their best will actually help, they’re actually causing more harm.

They are welcome to step forward James - but they don't. So many people use social media to rant and shout abuse in a way they would never do face to face. They don't turn up at the fans forum and enter into constructive discussions. The same people that hurl abuse at elected councillors, or expect that the world owes them a living but yet pay little towards it, or who wouldn't dream to give a day of their time to help somebody or volunteer at a charity. I think this is where strong communication is key. Being fan-owned as a concept, I don’t think, has been grasped by the wider fan base.

It simply means that all available shares are in the hands of supporters. There still needs to be a board of directors charged with running the club and making key decisions on its day-to-day running. Ultimately they are answerable to the shareholders and major decisions need to be put before shareholders at an AGM or EGM.

I think some people do think being fan-owned means everyone gets to make the decisions. They don’t. The board does. That doesn’t detract from the fact that the board should listen to the will of the shareholders when making those decisions.

What we have at present is a load of available shares that haven’t been purchased by fans. The board have deemed that they therefore have no alternative but to seek to sell those shares to an outside party in order to get money into the club.

That is quite unbelievable.

Well, if nothing else, one clown's twitter account is no more - the bell-end who posted Simon's address has got a taste of his own medicine. Just got this report.

We locked @daleforsale’s account for breaking our exposing private info rule. We found they broke our exposing private info rule through different reports we received about their behavior.

They can’t Tweet, Retweet, or Like content, and we’ll ask them to remove the reported content if they want to regain full access to their account. Your safety is important to us. If they break our rules again, we’ll respond with a more severe action, like suspension.

We appreciate you taking the time to submit a report and helping keep Twitter safe for everyone'.

That’s a big factor yeah as I remember them kicking off at the time at not being allowed in. I know where the issue with that group stems from but I can’t be arsed arguing with their illiterate co-leader on here. They can try and distance themselves by changing stands all they want but they’ve caused most of it.

I’m more saddened that actual grown men are participating in it all too and in some cases they are the parents of the abusers. And don’t get me started on those who say “hE dUsnT liKe dA tRoOf”.

"All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"

It's heartening to see good men calling out those who'd threaten the Chairman and Board of Directors. Those who don't use Twitter or Facebook regularly welcome the pushback against these morons. There are plenty of examples of pushback against those failing to understand the predicament of the Board on here too - which has lead to abuse of those doing the pushback

It's been suggested that a show of appreciation for Simon Gauge and the Board might be made at the end of the season. I'm not sure we can wait till then. The next home game would be a much better opportunity, whatever form that show of appreciation takes

I fear the only thing stopping Simon and possibly others from stepping down is the loss of control that'd mean over their huge financial input, which basically saved the club from oblivion. (A takeover by an external shareholder would presumably guarantee their shareholdings one way or another)

I certainly wouldn't blame them for feeling that way, even as it's possible to attribute a degree of naivety in their footballing decisions. That would almost certainly apply to every single one of us in the same circumstances

A quick search of @simongauge will show you the twitter stuff. The Facebook thing I think was on the final result post by the club. I’m not a member of that frankly pathetic, chavtastic “appreciation page” (yeah really) but I bet it’s even worse on there. Honestly, I’m appalled that these pricks follow the same club as I do and I’d prefer it if they just fooked off until they’ve grown up. Unfortunately they’re a reflection of society in general so I doubt they ever will.

Edit - my memory is failing me again. I was sent a screen shot from the aforementioned Facebook page and if I could post pictures on here I would do. I’m sick of these so called supporters now and something needs doing about them. If that means me putting my head above the parapet then so be it.

To be clear, abuse of anyone on line is unacceptable and I condemn those responsible and support the club taking what action is necessary to bring those responsible to justice.

I mentioned SG in my post because he is the chairman and the topic title is chairman’s statement. I fully appreciate the role he and his fellow directors have played is rescuing the club from a perilous set of circumstances. I would say I support SG and the board.

However that support is not unconditional and does not mean that the chairman or the board become eternally free from criticism, despite the fantastic job they have done, there is more work to be done.

My point is that SG in his message chose to criticise what I would call to be the reasonable fans on this message board. “Disappointed that fans on the messageboard seem to have given up”. He went on to say those inside the club certainly hadn’t given up. I highlighted that since his statement results on the pitch didn’t reflect ‘not having given up’.

There appears to me - a growing view that we have reached the end of the road with Bentley, ‘Sack Bentley’ seems a popular thread…

If we are in a siege mentality then why not make the fans part of that rather than saying he’s disappointed with us and then continuing to not communicate whilst we lose week after week after week. It reinforces them and us, it doesn’t have to be that way.

Personal abuse is unacceptable and must be dealt with; but reflective criticism is I believe acceptable and justified.

None of my posts on this thread were aimed at yours so apologies if it came across like that.

I’m just sick to the back teeth of these social media halfwits going around threatening people (and I’ve experienced it myself) over football. It’s time they were dealt with once and for all and if that means less fans through the gate then that’s what we’ll have to accept. There’s a poisonous element of our support that need sorting and if the club want my help on identifying them they know how to get in touch.

Good post, hundreds of fans have done their bit to save the club from the clutches of Morton House but those in the Boardroom did more than anybody. We all voiced our opinions and rattled collection buckets, filled those buckets with money etc but Simon and the Directors did more than that, they have pumped about half a million quid of their money into the club to try to save it...they've also been put through the emotional wringer just for good measure. The ones who are now giving them personal abuse are a disgrace and should be ashamed of themselves, they shouldn't be associated with the club. Of course we don't all agree with certain decisions but let's keep things civil and never forget what Simon and his colleagues have done.
