Drop off charges are anti British.
We work on the understanding that firms provide a service and take a fee. At Bristol they create an artificial deliberate traffic jam to slow down passengers long enough to fleece them of £6. This is not a service.

What business do you pay when no additional service is provided? . 10 years ago I could drive there drop my friends off and pay no fee. Now I am funneled into a congested space and forced to pay £6 to get out. What service is that.?

I can remember reading a report by an aviation professional who specialises in running airports. In the report it says that the Welsh taxpayer has to subsidise Cardiff Airport by so much because it is not run to maximise profitability. One of the criteria he highlighted was drop off/pick up fees and the lack of a structured fee at Cardiff. |  | | |

The issue referred to in the article could well be unlawful, if it is then the airport operators need to be made to reimburse all those who’ve been inappropriately fined. The Guardian should report their concerns to the CAA. | | | |

If Cardiff airport was busier it would already be the case. The car park is so unnecessarily convoluted I had to spend longer than I needed to in there and got charged when the place was basically deserted. |  |

All subsidised service for people to use are a waste of money in the UK unless they are in south east England.
HS1 was not a problem. HS2 was a disaster due to people in the Tory shires who had no need for it. Noone complained about Cross Rail. It increase properly values along the route. HS2 only increase values at the hub stations. | |

I regard it as"rip of Britain" and not free market capitalism where services are provided ad a fee paid. Technology reduces staffing and therefore should make lifer cheaper and easier.
For example park and ride has many benefits and if cheap will be useful in keeping traffic in cities low. A benefit for the ratepayers residents and users. Number plate technology is ideal and cheap.
Drop of charges are however make life worse not better. Congestion is caused to slow down traffic not speed it it with the task of taking money while inconveniencing the user. Pay more for an inferior slower service.
Some people have voted to use this so called service it and have a longer walk and still get harassed using new number plate technology.
Cardiff should never use it. It needs planning permission of the local authorities who should reject it as told to them by their ratepayers. | |

Given the congestion on British roads I’m surprised we don’t see more domestic flights
FLYBE is much missed by us anyway ,as wife used the Manchester to Exeter route to visit her sister .
Plymouth ,a decent sized city, to Inverness / Aberdeen . An horrendous road trip . Imagine a London to Anglesey route . There again,it would bring more of those tourists in.
