Do you guys think he is an upgrade on Grimes? Or do you think it's too early to tell.. ?

Definite upgrade.
I agree with almost everything everyone else said up there 👆
Well happy. Shame we probably can’t afford a permanent deal 🤷‍♂️

He often got way beyond the halfway line, he just did jack shit when he was there. Risk free, tedious passing.

I suppose we might get lucky and Fulton will be subject to another £4 million bud from Coventry. Love to see him Franco and Widdell as our midfield 3 next season - play offs guaranteed if we do. The big question though is how would the liberty crowd be able to cope with exciting football after so many years without it?

I know it has been mentioned that his wages are out of our range but would you try and get O'Brien here full time.
He has been a breathe of fresh air. His movement off the ball is first rate, his sizing up of the situation before he has come into possession of the ball and to be able to adapt as the opposition tries to close him down means that our forward momentum has increased dramatically.

So do you take a chance on someone new being unsure how they would fit into rhe team or spend the money on someone you know can perform to a high standard at Championship level.
Wedell will already signed be but will possibly take time to adapt but sholud alongside O'Brien, Allen (given another year?), Franco a fixture and Fulton the more defensive alternative adding a bit of height to the team in the middle when needed, Add the returning Cotterill and Congreve given they have now had much valued game time under their belts.
Will need to sort out both attack and defensive issues in the closed season as well. Lots of work to be done.

I think we could probably come to terms with Forest on a fee. £2-3m with a hefty promotion bonus/add ons perhaps. Wages alas will be the problem unless he's happy to take at least a 50% pay cut.

As good as he is, the noises coming out of the club point more towards more Franco/Widell type signings than those we know from the off will be expensive. I'd happily pay him what we were paying Captain Sideways and he'd be well worth it, but I'd expect the average salary at the club to be trending downwards for a while.

I've heard that talks are in progress for him to stay.

Obviously a big payout but his wage will have additional incentives.

Probably right. I wonder if a possible way around the wage issue might be a big signing-on fee plus smaller salary, but I don't know if this is (a) possible, and (b) sufficiently attractive to O'Brien.

Let's hope so. He's showing Grimes up for the average Championship plodder he mostly was.

There is a transfer fee / wages relationship. Swansea subject to FFP rules can afford his wages if the avoid wasteful transfer fees. Pederson Kuharevych and Bianchini fees covered the wages for much better player Wiedel and OBrien

There should be a cors of 15 players of quality. No expensive squad players at all. Cotterill Congreve Lissah Parker Govea Watts and Watts GK.
Mk, KP, NAOT, McLaughlin are absorbing cash is wages and fee amortization and not offering much. Fulton Oli Cooper and Bianchini might need to look elsewhere to find wages for big hitters like O'Brien.

The aTrust should give their £500 k back to the club in sponsorship for the Women's team or Academy. Al isy needs is the wimpy members to make a resolution.

Grime's lack of pace was my main concern, it affected his decision making does he push on or drop back it just left a hole in the middle of the park and invited pressure, If you had the right players alongside him he could function well to a degree but as shown in the Wycombe cup game changedthe team and the midfield floundered as we did often when teams pressurised us, not solely down to him and team tactics/setup did not help him at times.

In fairness Grimes is doing OK for Coventry as is the team with him playing virtually every minute.

He’s marmite there atm.

But that’s what he will always be.

If Lampard can keep him out of his comfort zone then he'll probably do OK. Not brilliant, but OK. I'm still glad we've moved on from him even if he does kick on there. I don't really expect him to.

Grimes or O'brien is an absolute no brainer, our midfield has improved immensely.

Grimes is a good championship midfielder. O’Brien is premier league for me.

The combination of O’Brien and Franco is so good, they can hold their own and we can pick our third midfielder depending how we want to play. Allen if we want to try to pass through teams, Fulton for a physical battle, Cullen/Cooper if we’re going to have a lot of possession in the final third. Eom as well if we had a left winger.

Sheehan has managed which player to partner those two very well.

I don’t think it’s possible, but we could have a good crack next season if we could get him for another year.

Your last sentence is the key.

If we sell that to him by saying that we are going to get x, y and z then he might be persuaded to take a pay cut to play every week, challenge for promotion and live in a fantastic area of the country.

Apparently his family have joined him now and they are all loving life here. He's in the last year of his his contract, would £20K a week with a four year contract swing it, if we throw in £2M signing on fee spread over the 4 years giving him £30k a week. That is a £6M contract, a hell of a lot of money for us. Is he worth it? Would we pay it? Would he accept it? It's a yes, possibly, possibly for me.

Anything affordable is worth it.

We may get someone as good on loan, would be very difficult to attract someone of that quality permanently.

From his point of view, he’ll have better financial offers, but he’s guaranteed to play here. A season like he’s played for us so far and he may well attract a PL club.

Having the right players alongside him was crucial to our performance also not leaving him as the last defender at set pieces. Flynn Downes was most noteably used in the need to cover for him then having to play the two yard pass as Grimes came far too close.

Great observation! I agree with your Sheehan comment as well that he's "managed which player to partner those two (OB & Franco) very well."

Hope there is something in this. He is exactly the type of player the club should be building a squad around. He has been in a class of his own in just about every game he has played for us. Give him the captaincy with any bonuses attached to it. Pretty sure his impact will have not gone unnoticed elsewhere. With his family now with him in Swansea the sooner negotiations are opened the better, preferably on a sunny day. Not sure the success achieved under Sheehan would be where it is with LOB.
