Neath 09:35 - Mar 14 with 3151 views | 1983 | I got off the train at Neath a few days ago and wondered around a bit waiting to be picked by my relatives, what has happened to Neath a shell of its proud past of a bustling working class rugby town. I got off the train and crossed the car park footbridge and walked over opposite the old police station just that walk it's self was like walking through Belfast in the 1970's what an absolute mess of a place. This town was built on hard working people proud of their town and history and now it's just boarded up shops, bargain booze and chavs screaming at each other I haven't been to Neath for at least 10yrs and was totally gobsmacked by the state of the place.

Around railway stations are probably the worst reflection of an area, Swansea was horrendous until the last 18 months.
Neath on 10:33 - Mar 14 with 1888 views | 1983 | Yeah I know sad init spew, dog sh1te and the smell of skunk everywhere, I had good memories of Neath always really colorful in my mind there seemed to be flower beds everywhere blooming and Victoria gardens, going there on a packed double decker bus from Skewen on Saturday afternoons with my nan with proper busy cafés a bustling market shoppers everywhere then Neath fair in the 1970's where Morrisons car park is now the whole town was packed for that week or so. Then nights out in 1980's early 90's loads of pubs The Dark Arch even the famous Neath Workies.....just another tired unloved place living in the shadows of cardiff, coming through cardiff on the train now is astonishing how it's grown with continuous hotels, offices going up the short sightedness of the Welsh Assembly is so sad and it's killing 80% of this country [Post edited 14 Mar 10:38]

I tend to blame society in general not the WAG or the Police. We as a people have a high tolerance for sub prime behaviour such as drug dealing and usage. A lazy dependency population blame Starmer and the WAG for their own inaction and lack if drive. Free school s free health help with housing all on a plate for free and folk still can not make a go of it. [Post edited 14 Mar 21:10]

I don’t know if it was in here or I read it elsewhere but there was a story of someone in a Polish city. On the bench in the centre were I think two drunks swigging from bottles. Apparently, in no time at all the police arrived in a van, slung them in and drive off. Problem solved! They’ve not been heard of since😁! That’s a joke but it’s easy if the will is there.

Where exactly, the student accommodation has breathed life into the area, food is very good in the Grand Hotel, but obviously you wouldn't know that. And some nice coffee shops and independent shops on high street, plus the fantastic renovation of the Palace. When actually were you on high street last?

I couldn't see the point in responding to him, anyone who passes through can see the improvement. A real WUM and best just to leave him and the other WUM have their own discussion threads, now that really is amusing.

It is absolutely easy. There shouldn't be a visible pisshead/smackrat anywhere in the city centre during the daytime. Police should be numerous and visibly moving them on, by force if necessary. Instead they're all in the station monitoring Twitter.

A lot of them are being put up in the buildings/hotels on the parade along with some immigrants. They often are passed out on the bench outside specsavers. They’ll wake up for ten minutes to stumble across the road to ‘booze express’, shout abuse at some innocent passers by before conking out again. Can’t remember the last time i saw a police officer in neath.

I agree entirely that the immediate area by High Street Station has improved a lot. However walk down High Street towards what once was Woolworths or up the other way towards Dyfatty and Greenhill and it makes for sober viewing

That walk from the station down the high street to the castle is the first thing a lot of visitors to Swansea sees and it is absolutely horrific. The rest of the city is not so bad it is what it is thanks to Mr Hitler and the Luftwaffe.

I've had the misfortune to have had to do some work in a couple of the flats at Mathew St, it's not for the faint hearted let me tell you. You need your wits about you, especially when you ladened with tools and parts.

Yeah that was me that mentioned that in Krakow square and I swear on the kids lives that's what happened I'm not saying for one minute they were taken off to Aushwitz but most probably driven out of town a couple of miles and politely told to stay away from the city centre maybe ?

I'm just highlighting what a lovely town it used to be a proper community where everyone did know everyone in a only kind of way Welsh people do but now the heart and soul has been ripped out of the place, get coppers walking around the streets not silly wardens get them engaging with people encourage people to come half price parking, free parking? Better bus connections for example where I live you can travel in our area on weekends for just £1 one way you can travel anywhere! the buses are rammed with people out and about spending money & socialising. You can't get a bus from Birchgrove area to Neath now they have all been stopped? I send an email to Neath & Port Talbot council asking a couple of questions...I'm still waiting the reply

Haven’t been to the station for a long time, go to the market and town centre, can’t see how businesses remaining there are making a living, the Trostre retail park is well attended and quite busy.
