Trent 11:14 - Mar 25 with 3219 views | rbee | Slightly surprised that Real Madrid have signed him. Signing him on a free reduces their exposure should the move not work out but the contract length will be interesting. I assume that Real have a cunning plan to utilise his outstanding vision and passing ability whilst keeping his defensive duties to a minimum.
Trent on 11:19 - Mar 25 with 2952 views | GaryHaddock | Incredible passer, great vision, but lacking defensive skills. Can't think of a better club for him to be honest.
Trent on 11:23 - Mar 25 with 2932 views | daveB | Thats a hell of a signing for Madrid, he'll be brilliant in Spain Liverpool have massivley messed up letting their 3 best players run their contracts down
Trent on 11:27 - Mar 25 with 2915 views | rbee | Liverpool's owners hold them back in many ways. Superb managerial appointments but will not spend big on players or ageing squad members. Five year deal so Real are not messing around. Can't understand some Liverpool fans being negative about losing Trent. Good luck to him on expanding his career. [Post edited 25 Mar 12:23]

This. He's an excellent player whose involvement in games goes way beyond the remit of a full-back. It also serves as a detriment. He was a big miss for Liverpool recently whose over-reliance on three/four (including the goalkeeper) to perform, is a reason why they fell short against Newcastle and PSG in successive games. Can't see them achieving anything next season.
Trent on 12:28 - Mar 25 with 2678 views | numptydumpty | Great player Not 100% he is a defender. Midfield or on the flanks in more advanced areas, could be more appropriate. Fantastic addition for Madrid Look forward to seeing his show reel at his new club

Trent on 13:04 - Mar 25 with 2519 views | LazyFan | England tried him in the middle, but it did not work as he does not run back. At RB, most of the time, he's already at the back, but as we know, he can get caught out position-wise there as well. No doubt vision, passing, crossing and free-kicks are world-class. So, where do you play him? I suspect he could play RM, but not many teams play that way now. And for England, we have Saka, who, by his absence, has proven to be world-class. Real have him as he's cheap and they can use him to unlock those stubborn defences and also play as RM like Beckham did for them. You see how it appeals to them. Also, no doubt that Bellingham convinced them to sign him as he's going to be charging into the box to head in those Trent crosses for sure.

Trent on 13:07 - Mar 25 with 2509 views | terryb | I thought it has been a foregone conclusion for most of the season that he was going to Madrid. It seemed that the chances of him signing a contract extension at Liverpool were always extremely low. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Trent on 14:46 - Mar 25 with 2271 views | PlanetHonneywood | I appreciate this might just be me, but if everyone is fit and on their game, TTA is on the bench. At RB, he always looks doable in a way Walker just doesn't and at 26 no one seems to trust him enough to play him in midfield, where you'd think he'd be better off. With Jimmy D likely to be off, its noticeable that the Rangers didn't go for him. For my money, that says it all!!

I think Real Madrid is the only club in the world that you shouldn't be upset about your player leaving to join despite the history that player having at your club. It's the one club where players are willing to run down their contract for and Madrid know players want to be there so they don't have to pay them huge money to get them to sign.

Trent on 20:35 - Mar 26 with 1351 views | GroveR | I've said it before after England games but I just don't get the hype about him. It's he a good footballer? Undoubtedly. Is he the best in any given position? Not for me. His stats are impressive and I'm sure they will be at Real but if you're a good footballer with time and space, they should be. Be interested to see how he copes with the likes of Nico Williams and Raphinha. I think Liverpool quietly letting him leave without trolley-dashing off for a replacement shows they think Connor Bradley is a good enough option at RB (when fit). And watching their fans having melters about his 'betrayal' is just gold...

Going forward he is incredible to watch, I think he'll be brilliant at Madrid, is always going to be dodgy as a defender which is why he'll drop behind Reece James for England but he's quality going forward
Trent on 13:28 - Mar 27 with 946 views | DavieQPR | If he has gone on a free then his signing on fee and wages must be astronomical.
Trent on 19:50 - Mar 27 with 782 views | Benny_the_Ball | Read a stat somewhere that in Europe's top 5 leagues Trent is ranked 1st for defenders creating chances and assists but ranked second for full backs who get skinned the most defensively. Says it all really. Real Madrid will be a great fit. [Post edited 27 Mar 19:55]

I wonder if they see him as the next iteration of Gareth Bale moving from full back to a further forward position

Either that or they have a history of full backs for whom the art of defending is not the highest priority.

I remember seeing Bale play against us for Southampton before he went to Spurs and thinking he was unplayable insofar as he played everywhere but goalkeeper and looked better than anyone we had out there. The only other player I've seen with that kind of athleticism is Kyle Walker. Then again, Bradley Wright-in-your-handbag was playing and looked handy (sorry) so maybe we were just dogshìt.

Except for Pepe, who like Sergio Ramos had that mongrel competitiveness that Trent doesn’t. Still, he’ll win a lot of games 6-2 and no one will mind too much.
Trent on 23:04 - Mar 27 with 552 views | 100percent | Let's be frank, Real Madrid only have to defend against 4 sides in the Spanish league, so you'll see him in a much more advanced role. European competition might be different, but only really in the later stages...

Very possible. Mind you, TAA is already 26. Whereas Bale was barely 20 when he was converted from FB by the then Spurs manager - some bloke called Gary Redcap(?)
