| Swansea City v Ipswich Town : Match day thread UPDATED on 16:56 - Nov 8 by wwcigne | We haven’t laid a glove on them Way too slow and boring,we must be everybody’s favourite team to play Dropping like a stone Where do we go from here |
"Where do we go from here" We've been here many times before unfortunately and I thought these new owners would have been aware of that and acted accordingly. The pressure is certainly on now with us 18th in the league.

| Swansea City v Ipswich Town : Match day thread UPDATED on 22:17 - Nov 8 with 1523 views | RichardO | Our tactics today were terrible in that first half but initially we did try and play to feet trying to get some momentum going but we were closed down very quickly and not helped by poor refereeing, balls into feet just didn't work as they brought to bear pressure high up the pitch, so we tried playing long and high to Vipotnik and Widell neither particularly effective when the ball is in the air Vipotnik was awful as a centreforward to hold the ball up or making a nuisance of himself, we have seen Idah being much more effective in that role to link play. We have Inoussa who is quite effective in the air especially if the ball is chipped in behind the full backs his pace and strength were wasted today. We saw for our goal that getting possession high up the pitch is essential but so is keeping it when teams need to attack us , making sure our rotation and movement ensures options on the ball, forward momentum but lastly and not least enough players in defensive positions to stop counter attacks as we press forward. . Really think we got caught out far too many times in the midfield we are far too rigid in our roles that hinder both our attacking options and defensive options. | | | |

Our midfield has been a problematic area for the last few yrs at least, no manager has been able to sort it except to paper over the cracks, O'brien was a class act last season, Galbraith is this season, Franco was excellent today and Stamenic has shown enough promise to be successful, but Sheehan needs to put it altogether to work as a unit, he managed it last season with O'Brien and its a pity we've not got him this season either behind Galbraith or side by side, we couldn't afford O'Brien which is understandable, but Franco is more than capable and sheehan needs to work to make a partnership with those two work. Burgess and Cabango is workable, Tymon is good enough, Key needs to be moved on or better coached, but the defence definitely needs work and investment, Vipotnik can score goals, jury is out on Idah.

Ipswich played very well and beat QPR easily last weekend at Loftus Road. Are we really surprised with what happened yesterday truth be told?

You have to be honest and say Ipswich were better than us yesterday. And not just slightly. And with excellent away support for a long trip. That doesn't mean we didn't help ourselves. We were much slower in thought. I didn't think Franco was good yesterday. He was caught in possession or just gave the ball away numerous times. He wasn't the only one. Things improved hugely when Ronald and Cullen came on. Liam gets a lot of criticism but he is very aware of who's around him so is able to either turn and look up or move the ball quickly almost always finding a team mate. And he played a large part in the move for the equalizer.

Yes, but he had players behind him who should have helped, everything stems from midfield attack and defence yes hev made mistakes, but I thought he was generally good overall. I watched on Tele so I don't get the full picture of games
