Looking at York's only 2 away defeats this season both Boreham Wood and Gateshead scored 3. Also at Barnsley in the FA Cup who needed 3 goals to beat them. The last time they failed to score was at home to Solihull back in September 2025. The only other game they failed to score this season was at Southend 0-0 back in August 2025. Any thoughts of 1 or 2 goals and seeing the game out will end in tears.

I've never thought mentioning the budget in comparison to others is a woe is us comment or to tamper expectations but to highlight what we have achieved and to ask for encouragement.
Why doesn't he mention budgets when we lose against part time clubs or those with less resources, can you explain that? He didn't mention budgets when Spennymoor beat us, why not? Why will Bromley probably win EFL2 tonight when by all accounts they have the smallest budget in the league? It's a defeatist attitude and a excuse to lose. We've done the double over Carlise and FGR this season, budgets didn't matter and it shouldn't on Saturday. If football matches were decided on size of budget there would be no point in playing the games. If he wants to cite budgets then it works both ways doesn't it? We had it before we played Southend in the play off game. All he has to do is get the lads in the right mindset for the game. Theres plenty of experience in the squad and on the management team. Let's be honest,if they can't get themselves up for a one off opportunity like this then they're in the wrong job, These are the games footballers and winners dream about and the opportunity might not present itself again. Forget budgets, the only thing everybody needs to focus on is the positive mindset that come hell or high water we are going to win this game on our own pitch and lift that trophy. Expectation shouldn't be treated as a dirty word, we are more than capable of winning this.

I'm pretty sure he has always caveated that we are good enough to win but I may be misremembering.
I suspect he will be saying exactly the sort of thing you outline below but to the players which, ultimately, is all that matters.
Do not provide the team talk for the opposition. Jim is always good at this, underplaying us and bigging up the opposition no matter who they are. What is said behind closed doors will undoubtly be different. I get that many supporters do not like it.
Does it even matter what managers say in interviews? Does Maynard saying they know how to beat us make our players play better? It shouldn't. Personally I pay little interest in pre/post match interviews as managers rarely give you the full picture. Jim is not going to come out and say I am going to position Rodney on Kitching to nulify his attacking threat and then play the ball long in behind him when he does attack to utilise Davante's pace. Or someother tactical masterpiece.
Ultimately, the game will be decided on a few moments of quality, or mistakes. There should be no issue with motivation for the players as I suspect there will be pay rises if we do get promoted.

Thatās makes a lot of sense. Doubt thereās much consternation about Maynard treating it like just another game as mentioned earlier in this thread either.
Like you I have no issues with how motivated the players will be, theyāve shown that all season. You donāt get as many results as we have or in the way weāve got them without that character and motivation.
That faith and my own hasnāt wavered even when weāve not got results and when Iāve criticised performances/selections/tactical rigidity.

You don't need to wear Red Rose tinted glasses to believe in your own players ability to win this game James, whatever makes you think that, why the doubt? Heās got a plan. He will be in the detail and the players will be to. I think the inferiority complex is just this town in nutshell. It worked in league one in terms of punching about or weight but this is different.
I as a fan want to hear my manager tell me that we are going to win. Itās not a free hit and anything other than a win is unthinkable. Everyone is different and ultimately words mean nothing, itās the actions that count. But they can set the scene with those wordsā¦

Everybody i associate and converse with thinks we have a decent chance of beating York. We'll have to up our game from recent performances but in a fixture of this magnitide the players should be capable of doing that. They've worked hard all season to get this chance to win the league and i don't see them throwing that all away by meekly surrending in a final shootout. We might lose, that's also a real possibility against a very good team. If do lose then let's do it in the right manner and take that decent performance into the Play Off game. No matter what happens we want to leave the York game knowing that we gave it a bloody good go. Surely that's not too much to ask. If people need Rose Tinted glasses to have some hope after the players endeavours this season then it's a bad do. Look at the teams we've beaten at home this season.

The relative positions in the league of the two team I expect to result in a physical game. Both teams are used to winning the midfield battle and that will be key. Within reason I think the York players will be dishing it out to East, Rodney and TAR. if they can stifle our best three assist providers that would be a massive boost to their chances. Just hoping we donāt need to open the game up to early. Going 1 up after about 30 minutes and 2 up after 93 minutes is my Carlesburg version of the game.

If we're talking about the long-term future of the club and the reason for it's existence, then obviously the supporters are much more important than any group of players.
That wasn't what you were talking about in your original post though, your original post was about motivating the players/fans for Saturday and in that context, the fans are nowhere near as important.

Itās something Iāve been conscious of and sometimes do think I could leave some threads alone. I donāt think thereās ever anything wrong with having and challenging opinions, especially those that have factual inconsistencies but yes, thereās a danger it can go round in circles.
Quality over quantity should always be the aim. But can reflect that I might personally fall short on that at times. Even when making that conscious effort not to be repetitive.
I certainly donāt take the criticism as a bad thing, sometimes we could all do better.

I've been watching Dale since 1986 , saw the the 09/10 and 13/14 promotions, saw some memorable FA Cup wins, the Charlton game, the Darlo game and Stockport at Wembley but this feels bigger than all of those games!
I reacted last Saturday night on here when my ying and yang was still all over the place! Saturday could be special, Saturday could be devastating but we are all in this together on here!

Scarborough at home November 1987, drew 1-1. Been hooked ever since. Went palace and drove to Plymouth THAT last game of the season, 2 memorable games, both of which we lost. This will be up there with them, no doubt about that. Donāt recall looking forward to a game this much in those 38 and a half years, just pray this time itās a win. Not the time for silly debates in my opinion.
