| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Scunthorpe United (Playoff Semi-Final) on 21:52 - May 3 by 442Dale | Well don’t ask me to check back on previous post then. So which posts? No issues around knowledge. Happy to be proven wrong. Unlike those supporters who struggle with the meaning of the word. |
I'm wrong several times a day, like everyone else There's something else though: hypocrisy If you'd bothered to check back through your previous, season-long "corrections" of posts about Rodney, you might've recognised it, and acknowledged it Post-match comments made in a positive vein do not require "correction", even by a self-styled tactical encyclopedia Back to bed after a mid-night piss, having put that to bed too

| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Scunthorpe United (Playoff Semi-Final) on 07:24 - May 4 with 2461 views | Trev | The criticism of Rodney has been completely understandable, he hasn't contributed enough for a title chasing team. He was incredibly frustrating in the first half yesterday. I was pleased he got the goal and the confidence he clearly took from it, hopefully that can help us next week. | | | |

We all know Rodney has moments like that. His goal against Southend last year was probably even better skill and finish. The fact he only does it once in a blue moon is why he's with us and not playing in League 1 or even the Championship.

Another factor which contributed to Rodney and Hannant being so productive down that flank was that Belehouan is a centre half playing at right back. The natural substitution after Moss going off injured would have been Pritchard. A big reshuffle which moved East out to the right hand side of Dieseruvwe to allow Pettit to come on meant Rodney could join Hannant in causing issues for Belehouan. He received little support from Roberts ahead of him either.

He is very much that type of player, give him time to think and a few options and its not usually a good ending, if its a flash chance or he's his toes he can be class, massively frustrating really as I thought he was terrible last week but has all the tools to be unplayable when he turns up.

Belehouan was a definate weak link. Very clumsy and unsurprisingly poor positionally. His challenge on Moss was awful. East has played that role a few times and has been okay. Pettit had a good game and helped when we were struggling towards the end of the first half. I suspect, after injury Jim did not trust Pritchard's fitness for much more than 20 minutes or so. Interesting in his interview that Barlow would have started, apart from a slight niggle picked up in training. Maybe comes back in for Moss next week, if fit? Or will they try to do a job on Abdulmalik?

Abdulmalik plays on the other flank so it’s whether they just let TAR deal with him with assistance from Gordon. Ayinde started on the right for Boreham Wood yesterday and did well, he’d not want to be going backwards though.

It’s odd because watching the game on DAZN you do see seats in the main stand which are not filled …sections of 3 or 4 seats together .?

Posting observations about players is the lifeblood of this messageboard. His finish yesterday proved me wrong which i'm delighted about, and feeling positive about him starting at Wembley now If he can stay on his feet, and on his toes, he could really make a name for himself

Coventry now Premier League let’s try and keep this lad for another full season he was superb yesterday. Excellent start.. Hannant East and Gilmour all ticking close to there rhythmical best. Rodney can be a match winner.. he turns up firing at Wembley we will be a real handful for BW. There was a grit shown in spades yesterday. 90 minutes away from the football league this could be OUR moment to make club history and win at Wembley. [Post edited 4 May 10:05]

If Scunthorpe sold all their tickets as allocated, why did they have to move the netting from one section so that more people could sit down?

Right there is Project 5000. Why wouldn’t the vast majority who attended yesterday not want to come back for the first league home game of the season 2026/27. There is a real feel good factor at the club at the moment.. it’s time to take advantage of that. I am sure the clubs senior leadership team will be doing all they can.

Only way we keep Perry is getting promoted (and selling Beckwith!), and even then we’d be doing him a disservice. Should be playing regularly in L1 next season.

League 2 and Perry loving his time here this doesn’t look impossible. Beckwith would have to fight for his place. If we do manage this… we are going to need more quality and strength in numbers.

| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Scunthorpe United (Playoff Semi-Final) on 21:33 - May 3 by pnc4eva1 | Rodney improved when he wasn't dropping back to cover Moss. When Hannant was switched to the left is when Rodney came into the game. Most of his work is spent tracking back and covering which is not his best use |
Hannant started as the left side No 10 & dropped back to LWB after Moss' substitution . Rodney was on TAR's side first half and neither TAR or Gordon have been at their best recently (as many have noted), thus pressure on Rodney to do lots of covering which isn't his strength (again as others have said). Fair enough to say Rodney has struggled recently but arguably so have several others, including TAR & Gordon, but they don't seem to receive the same amount of criticism so there does appear to be some bias on here against Rodney. Bias? No There's also the wider point about freeing him from having to do any "covering" at all (except pressing the keeper/defenders when they have the ball) which is a tactical conundrum for JM to resolve with Mani D having to cover the width of the pitch in that role 442 (the formation...) doesn't appesr to be something JM favours but it leaves a flaw in our attacking prowess. In addition, Rodney very rarely tackles, so unless he's on his game he's a passenger I've already praised him for yesterday: suggestions of "bias" are way off the mark [Post edited 4 May 10:39]

My two pennies. The frustration with Rodney is that there is much more there. He has power, pace and can finish. Towards the end of last season he was immense and I hoped that he would have put his health issues behind him and kicked on. He has been fit for most of the season and his minutes have been managed well, but he has not had as many impacts this season as I would have liked/hoped. There may be more into this and his previous issues have affected his long term fitness. Tobi is a whole hearted player, who tries hard and is a great character in and amongst the squad. I am not sure there is much more there player development wise and he has come back from an injury and was finding his way a bit. Gordon, since he has signed has come on leaps and bounds and is arguable one of our best players. Yes his form has slipped a bit but if we go up I hope he signs a new contract as he is a key player in that right sided back three role. It is rare, especially at this level that you get a player who is solid defensively and can contribute effectively in an attacking sense. He is also fairly quick which helps. For a team who plays the same system as us he could make the step up to league one.

We’d have to overhaul the structure to go to 4-4-2, though that front two could still be employed if we revert to a 3 man midfield. Next week’s selection will be very interesting. Leaving Pettit out now will be a big call, so does East take one of the 10s?. The fitness of Moss may be the contributing factor. Not sure it’s been mentioned yet, but it was great to see Gilmour looking more like his old self yesterday.

It’s strange because Gordon was the one who I expected to re-sign first, yet he’s now the only one left.

I think the ceiling is higher with Gordon than Beckwith as he is quicker. I thought him and Beckwith would leave and play higher up. The injury came at an awful time for Beckwith and will almost certainly have affected his market, so taking the new deal gave his security. If we get promoted I think Gordon will sign, especially if we have had a decent budget. No doubt there are clauses in all contracts that will allow players to leave if conditions are met. If a League One club offers £250,000 for Gilmour and he can treble his wages then off he goes. [Post edited 4 May 10:58]

It’s definitely a conversation for another day, but would be looking to see if we can get money for one of Gilmour and East now we have Pettit and Francis. Of course a change to a 3 man midfield or East permanently as a 10 changes that.
