So we begin again, with a newish look to the test line-up and Stokes at no.7 after recognising he was trying to do too much

Weather looking dodgy for the Lord's test, England put in by NZ

37 overs the Pakistan 2nd innings…

With yesterday’s rain that’s a 2 day test.. pathetic really nobody wants that.

Let’s hope the tourists buckle down and apply themselves for the remainder of the series…. Appreciate you can only play / beat what’s in front of you.

It was mildly amusing to see their own fans berating them from the stands after yet another half-arsed piece of fielding

I don't know. I get a full refund for tomorrow when I would not have been able to go. On a more serious note that was a comprehensive victory against a poor side.

Joe Root reminded us why he was sacked as captain with his mismanagement of the bowlers and his tactics in the field.

Fastest ODI double hundred

At 27, he has the chance to break almost every record in the book if he can keep his head more often

What a game. I would have had Sri Lanka at about 1,0001 to chase that downwhen they lost 2 early wickets. Like you say, well done to them in one of the best 1 day games I have seen, especially that last over ( 2 wickets but then a 6 to finish !!!). I bet harry Brook can't believe what happened

From Betfair

England had a 99% chance of beating Sri Lanka after recording 429/4.

£2.7m traded on England at 1.01.
£3.8m traded on England at 1.02.
£2.1m traded on England at 1.03.

They went on to lose… 🫣

Losing three on the trot, especially the last two from winning positions, really isn't a good look, either for Brook or the management

It's been speculated that Adil Rashid had "gone off the boil" but he was a specialist at seeing games out at the death. The decision to drop him looks to have backfired

In other news, Lancs are doing a "Hendo" with Jimmy Anderson. He wanted to play on, but isn't going to be offered a contract

Devil's advocate time.

Eventually a call has to be made. They are looking to rebuild and as Fergie would always do, it is better to move on one year too early than one year too late. His injury record was not bad last year, but the season before he did not play as much. How much of the salary cap was he commanding and where is that money going to be used next season? An overseas seam bowling all rounder for the first part of the season could make a big difference. Luke Wood has lost his England contract and may not get another bench IPL deal so may have to actually play some red ball and more domestic white ball cricket to earn some money.

Conversely, he bowled well last season and will be good for the young seamers such as Stanley, Singh Dale, Aspinwall, Walkden, Hands and Brown to learn from. He may also have been prepared to take on a red ball only, extremely value for money contract just to keep playing.

There will be so much behind the scenes that we are not privy to and any contractual decision is a risk either way. A few years ago Mahmood was being chased by Warwickshire and Lancs paid him big money on a long term deal and he has hardly played.

Personally I am a bit undecided. Should any player be able to dictate his own terms? Also where will his wage from last season be allocated?
