With all the comings and goings and excitement at San Spotty,is anyone getting remotely interested in what is just about to start over the pond?
I think, looking at the England squad we have a really good chance.....there is a depth of talent without doubt.
Must say though I am not getting the purple haze about the competition and prefer to follow what's going on locally.
Just hope Haiti do well.

One thing that seems to help the flow of the games is referees appear to to realise it is a contact sport and that every nudge is not a foul, just tell a player to get up or ignore it completely. |
Indeed.....helps the game to flow. I wonder if this will become prevalent in the English game from now on? Must admit i have raised eyebrows to some of the tackles the Refs have allowed and not because of advantage.

I agree, the red card was correct; I don't think anyone has claimed differently and we are "sucking it up", if we must use American terminology.

One hundred percent agree, exactly how i saw it.
Interview by chap with Tuchel, was like a dog with a bone trying to get Tuchel to say the team had a mental problem for the game. Tried 3 times to which Tuchel reponded ‘mentality, look at what just happened’
Then having said he wasn’t happy with the performance, he decided to throw that at Bellingham rather than throw his managers comments about team unity and mental fortitude at him.

Tuchel is having an excellent tournament. A bit of forthright honesty can be very motivating if done correctly. His demanding behaviour/gestures on the touchline aided by him imparting information to players individually during the advert breaks is driving our capability to win from a losing position. During the knockout stages of the WC we hadn’t done that since the 1966 final.
Our resilience gives us a punchers chance of winning this thing. That thought wasn’t in my mind a month ago. | | | |

To be fair, Bellingham was asked again later in a pretty reasonable way about the manager’s comments and the standards they all expect of each other. He responded that maybe the manager doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those conditions against a team with the players Norway have.
The ITV interviewer was rubbish. Neither Tuchel or Bellingham were totally happy for different reasons.

It is the national media in a nutshell; same with politics. They've platformed Farage for decades and allowed unchallenged lies to become truths; the self-destruction of Brexit was seemingly not enough so they've continued to platform him until it seems like he might get near no.10, and suddenly "oh, we better highlight some of his unlawful incomes and russian backing"...
I dunno what the solution is, though, as here in Czechia the media are on the whole pretty good, lots of independent outlets, balanced and reporting facts neutrally; but the oligarch who holds the country in his grip uses his social media channels to appeal to an electoral base large enough to perpetuate his avoidance of prison (through political immunity).
It is the same sad picture right across Europe, though; in Germany the AFD are on the rise, for example.
I think the traditional media channels are facing immense pressure from social media, and many of them use gotchas, traps, controversy, conflict, sensationalism, etc. whenever possible to try to get eyes/ears onto their medium, to try to stay alive. The problem is, we, the citizens of the world, are suffering the consequences as the lines between truth and propaganda are getting so blurred; for many of us, it is at times indistinguishable.
Anyway, back onto football, what a game - England are definitely Rochdale of last season: grit, determination, fight, getting it over the line. The manager wants us to play better; I agree, but I am not sure how much more we can add. We got 'Arry & Jude who are world-class (Rice not far behind), then a mishmash of inconsistent, above-average, inexperienced, or crocks.
On the sum of talent, I would say semifinal is us, BUT, as we saw with the Dale last season, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and I think this England team/squad have the group (whole) attributes in spades.
It aint gonna be pretty, but I think with a bit of luck going our way, we can claw our way over the line (the French being the most final-like of final bosses to be defeated).
