| Injuries on 16:25 - Oct 11 with 2156 views | Northernr | If I may refer to my other love rugby league for a moment… the best run clubs in the league are Leeds, Wigan, Hull Kr and increasingly Wakefield. Now it’s not a hard and fast rule because it’s an insanely physical sport, Wigan have had their moments and Leeds suddenly lost a load of players just as the play offs started, but over the past two or three years who have had the best record with injuries? Leeds, Wigan, Hull Kr, Wakefield. Who are the worst run clubs in the competition? Universally seen as total shtshows… Huddersfield, Hull Fc, Castleford, Bradford. Who had the worst injury records this year and the most minutes lost to injury? Huddersfield, Hull Fc, Bradford, Castleford. In Huddersfield and Hull’s cases that has happened season after season for years. It’s not coincidence, in my opinion. | | | |

I really don’t think we’re a badly run club or a shtshow. Really don’t think things are that bad at the moment.

But how does that fit with Millwall who everybody agrees is a well run club? And they’ve had tons of injuries this season, probably more than us and also had a load last season. They’re also the land of the giants compared to us. Injuries were no doubt terrible last season and the fault of the club’s strategy. I’m not convinced that we can judge them yet so harshly this season given the injuries have happened partly to those who didn’t have a pre season plus Burrell who was playing international football after a crazy few weeks schedule and a couple of freak injuries to Kone and Kemper. I still don’t understand why the EFL scheduled two back to back three match weeks followed by a packed international break and then another three match week and then two weeks with no midweek games. It’s a recipe for disaster.
| Injuries on 16:56 - Oct 11 with 2009 views | Northernr | No, I don’t. Sorry for giving that impression. I think Hull Fc and Huddersfield Giants are badly run shtshows. I think QPR are a different organisation from three years ago and the team is unrecognisable from then to now. I’ve praised the recruitment, stephan’s management and said repeatedly I expect a play off push this year. The point I’m making is specifically about recurrent injuries. When it’s happening to you season after season it’s not bad luck, in my opinion. One season, fine. Two seasons, maybe. Some Coventry twt goes through the back of Dembele’s knee… nothing you can do. But three seasons of this (if that’s what’s going to transpire)? Something not right somewhere. Next area of big improvement for us, IMO. I agree with the manager, who has said he doesn’t know what the group is capable of because they’re never together as a group, and has also said we should show ambition and demand high standards. | | | |

Agree on the schedule, it’s nuts, and it’s killing teams other than ours. I’ve regularly cited Norwich and Millwall on this and said in the fans forum wrote up that Nourry was spot on with what he said about this.

Is it something being covered by mainstream sports journalists Clive do you know? Seems a big issue when so many players are being affected and it also affects the enjoyment of the fans if the best players aren’t available.

| Injuries on 07:32 - Oct 11 by WestonsuperR | I didn’t see Kemper struggling and JS said in his post match that it was planned, so I’d hope and expect to see him Wednesday. My guess is same 11 starting with maybe one change at the back, resting JCS or Adamson. |
Even where we’re standing in Bethnal Green or Mile End or however far back we are from the action , we could see he was holding his groin just before half . Astonished he came out for second half . When he came off he walked round our goal but seemed fine and I’d expect he’ll start on Wednesday. He was outstanding as well . | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Injuries on 19:28 - Oct 11 with 1689 views | derbyhoop | Surely, there is an element of JS trying to manage workload? Kemper hadn't played since first game and spent 65 minutes keeping the Championship's best player in his pocket. Would have been good to let him continue but, without Cirkin, the LB slot could be a weakness. Adamson has played there, but it's not his natural position. I think it was a reasonable call on the Boy. However Lamptey is a case of what you see is what you get? 4 years of almost continual injuries, then you're taking a risk. Friday it came back to haunt us. I thought Smyth got clattered a few times so may have been struggling. Kone for Kolli was probably pre-planned. Neither look fit enough for 90 minutes of 100mph Championship football. It also appears that both lloyd and Saito picked up injuries in training. It's not great. | |

| Injuries on 16:12 - Oct 11 by Northernr | On Kemper specifically, you can’t do much about those. Somebody went through his ankle after about 2 mins at Portsmouth. Same with Dembele, horrendous tackle. But Burrell, Kone, Poku, Lamptey etc etc. |
Poku and JCS have been fit so far this season? That's a positive?

Yes, managing player game-time, which hopefully pays dividends over the whole season. I understood JCS had cramp, as did Adamson. I'm not a medical expert, but i imagine there are strategies for minimising cramp in matches, perhaps lessons to be learned there?

Let's see where we are in May. This is a top eight team. I hope it's not held back, again, by stuff like this. That was a win on Friday night, that nearly ended up being a defeat because of this stuff.

I start a thread and you hijack with the wrong rugby code 😂 - we are suffering but so are other teams - I guess we’ve got better depth than we’ve had since being back in the championship and maybe that’s how we’ll make top 8

No worries. And for the record, if you do think the club is badly run, that is your prerogative. I just assumed you thought the club WAS badly run by the seemingly clear implication of your rugby league comparison, and I was interested if you thought that given you spend a lot of time thinking about QPR. What I am trying to tease out is that given most of us agree we do have an injury issue, what is the specific cause? We can’t just say “it’s all the fault of Nourry” or “let’s blame Bicycle Ben” (even if I didn’t warm to him much in that fans forum a year or two ago). It shouldn’t be about name calling or innuendo; I would hope the club is looking objectively about this behind the scenes (and not just producing dodgy stats to suggest the situation is somehow fine). Is it about recruitment? Is it simply bad luck? Are there particular tweaks we could do to our fitness regime to improve availability? At the moment it seems to be a) the injury situation is terrible, but b) nobody has produced a smoking gun to explain why.

I think Smyth was genuinely injured. There was a close up of him on Sky as he reached the dug-out and he was grimacing and limping. Shame as he was having the game of his life. What killed us as much as anything in the last 20 was the complete lack of pace up front, no out ball to relieve all that pressure. I know Kone was way off it, but I was relieved just to see him on the pitch after that horror Dev tackle. Hopefully he will now get up to speed. We need him firing on all cylinders.

Smyth had been kicked all ways over Friday night , before he went off he was holding the back of his leg so prob another pesky hamstring impact injury Kempner I thought the same that he has torn his groin but think it was a knock to the plumbs which causes his issue ,he did at one stage look like he was gonna throw up just after it some hopefully thats all it is As has been said there’s a issue at the club we could easily get top 8 this season with a fit squad playing the football we are playing but until the owners address the issue we will never fulfill what we could do

When you say ‘until the owners address the issue what have you in mind? Something as simplistic as sacking cycling Ben or something more profound? My own view is that our in juries are as a result of two things (1) Over training/playing with little recovery time (2) Risky recruitment. We know that Lamptey is a terrific player when fit, we also know he hasn’t been fit for over two years. I would rather have 3 Adamson’s in my squad than one Lamptey . Dunne never (very rarely) misses games. Edwards never misses games Are they training differently than others - resilience is key

Squad Balance is the key 1. Up and coming players 2. Championship level players 3. Potential stars but injury prone But the stats guys need to look at the types of injuries these players get, with the likelihood, certain injuries reoccur. And realistically in a squad of 25, we have to work out the likelihood, that with all potential availabilities, we have at teast 16 of this group available at any given time. Also, in addition to this, our training routines, our matchday tactics, our schedules all need to be carefully managed. Players being injured in training such as Saito and Lloyd recently and Vale, injured in a match warm up, that should never ever happen. That means that the way they are in these sessions for those particular players was very wrong. And also I know Stephan said predecided timings for players coming back are his choices alone. Personally, I trust a managers instinct as opposed to a database run by a performance team that is still failing. And especially bringing on a more injury prone player who normally plays on the other side of the pitch. i am unconvinced still that the importance of the performance teams recommendations is worth much. And am sure also training methods, warming up techniques, to me there has been some shockingly poor advice. Ultimately we have a far better squad on paper so we can cope with injuries which are inevitable but within our squad we need to have on average at any one time, 16 decent players able to play a part and i would say 9 or 10 minimum of those that could be playing 90 minutes. This bringing on players to prevent injuries, we are getting this wrong consistently. Personally i think its highly recommended to Stephan, so am sure that would have been the advice. Yes some of the recruitment has been highly risky, but the balance is still not correct. Easy to say, but i feel personally our performance team has too much clout and wrong decisions are being made by this team consistently in the advice they give about training, in game management and recruitment. I think most aspects of our club are perforning admirably, but the guys in the treatment rooms looking at the stats around this are failing. i hope this improves but i have little confidence in them. They have too much clout for me. And its been consistently poor for three seasons. Appreciate we always have to take some calculated risks with our squad, and yes the schedules are tough but I think we are failing badly with availability and for me those problems mean we need change, aa i have seen no signs of this team learning. Yes, obviously there is a degree of uncertainty with any player, as evidenced by JCS being fit at the moment (*touches wood*) but I would rather avoid players with injury problems in the future. This league is unforgiving and however good Lamptey looked against Cardiff (?), that's two games in a row when he has broken down after a short period of time on the pitch. I feel for the guy but it's not sustainable.
| Injuries on 08:18 - Oct 12 with 722 views | QPROslo | I expect our continuing injury problems are down to multiple reasons, our continueing practice of signing players with historic injury issues, the increase in speed and physicality of the game, the increasingly tight schedule in the Championship especially for International players among them. The Club said they were doing a major review of this in the summer just gone, but I've not heard any results, has anyone? It seems that they are taking greater care with player recovery as perhaps Kemper's planned substitution after 70 minutes is an example of. One thing I wonder about but not seen much talk about either from the Club or on here, though someone on another forum has banged on about it a lot, is it really just coincidental that this apparent increase in soft tissue injuries coincides with our move to the new training ground in the summer of 2023. Have the Club done proper testing of the pitches to ensure that they don't just look good, but are not too hard or otherwise contributing to these injuries? [Post edited 12 Oct 8:22]

End of the day ruben is paying the bills every month and if players are unavailable on a reg basis then hes not getting his monies worth , yes lamptey was a risk which prob wont pay off , but players who have joined us suddenely start dropping like flies , who before last season rarely missed a game and now rarly plays a game , players come back ,m burrell and break down again , when before he joined us his inury record was ok certainly not hamstrong injury related , kone putting weight on and playing long term with a knee injury , think dunne worked through the summer on his own on fitness and im sure others did as well , we have a good swaud this season playing decent football , a good chance of the top 8 but once again likely to be screwed up by to many injuries , and williams is the man in charge so if he dosnt take the heat who does ?
