He was only on the bench basically because of injuries. It's a difficult one for Watson because of Hendo's age and stage of his career but at the end of the day he's worth his place because of moments like last night. You'd almost have to get all the squad together and say to them all - Hendo is on the bench every game + 6 others. You can see now why McNulty didn't name a sub keeper last season for most games. | |

With the limited numbers, maybe he was always going to play and it was hoped he wouldn’t needed to have been used at Port Vale. Henderson himself may have said he wanted to start if possible. So many variables.
If he hadn’t played tomorrow it would have been at Fleetwood. Some of the criticism being thrown at Watson for this is ridiculous. If anything, he shouldn’t have been put in a position to confirm his team choice at this stage. Especially in the current climate. | |

He might have played more earlier in the season and picked up a few niggles that limited his subsequent appearances, thereby meaning the record was still out of his grasp. Unlikely, given his track record, but in the context of this season, less unlikely.
