I wish him the best of luck at Wolves and I’m sure he’ll have a great career but I can’t help but feel like both he and Wolves would get better value out of him if he was on loan out to a top end L1 or Championship side rather than playing unders games.

I think after some time at wolves he'll probably get a loan move.
Lots of dodgy sources reporting he'll be allowed out on loan in Jan. I think that could quite easily be a good guess to be honest. Be great to see him back at Dale and would go some way to help out in the full back areas. However I think for his own development maybe a team higher up in our league would be a better experience. He could go to a Championship side but risks playing less than he is for Wolves U23s.

'The 18-year-old was signed from Rochdale in January of this year in a deal that could rise to £3million if a series of performance-related add-ons are achieved.'
Let's hope that is based in truth and he meets the targets, that money will come in very handy. I agree be great to see him back, but playing for a team higher up the food chain would be better for his development. As long as he got plenty of game time of course.

From the Forbes article, September 2020:
"Rochdale, based on the outskirts of Manchester, are one such club. Last season, they managed to sell a youth player, Luke Matheson, to Wolves for £1m, which has insulated them a little against the worst of the COVID-19 financial scares so far. "
The journo later edited the article to read summat like" rumoured to be around £1m", as that figure was neither confirmed nor denied by the interviewee.
Watched this game and once again feel convinced that Luke who has played mans football is crying out for a sterner test than he is getting in the under 23 set up. I really hope they have plans for him soon because his talent seems untapped and dare I say somewhat wasted at the moment. Surely a loan move is on the cards ?

Couldn't watch it because I was working. I see Stoke U23s won 3-1. Did Luke play well in spite of his team losing?

To be perfectly honest if I had not known who he was I don't think I would have particularly noticed him because his opportunities to be actively involved were very limited. Although to be fair he did try to get forward his teammates who on the whole looked fairly average for this level rarely made use of him. His defending was solid enough if unspectacular but sadly it was not a game you would have picked him out as star material.
Watched the first15 mins or so, its played like a schoolboys game, and seems very tame and "systems" oriented. I dont see how this is benefitting these lads much compared to putting them in a proper mans team where the result matters . I have no doubt the coaches claim it is useful from their point of view but I doubt many from this game will end up being Premiership regulars.

One might also add, that's why adjusting to 'proper men's football' is no easy matter for young defenders brought up in this type of regime
Luke has the advantage of having some experience at League level. We're seeing how technically accomplished defenders struggle with the steep learning curve required for defensive duties at Dale, unless they've been (sometimes literally) blooded beforehand

Agree wholeheartedly with this. I bumped into a scout a while ago & asked they Dale don’t pick up more young lads cast off by Utd, City etc as my theory was that there must be loads of decent kids who may not be good enough for the prem but would be great for us. He mentioned u18/19/23 football & also the disillusionment factor, young players being brought up in systems where training etc was done in top class facilities & inability to adjust to lg1 or lg2’s more basic set ups.

Might explain Bola's struggles.

It must also be really hard to be a teenage loan player 200 miles from home in a lockdown. I remember going for Sunday lunch at the Royal Toby last October and chatting to Hayden Roberts who was a resident there. A few days later we were in Tier 3 and the hotel closed so I don’t know where he went living after that. Employing that psychiatrist might have been imperative.
I wonder if we enquired for him. He would’ve been very welcome back, and in a position we need bodies for.
Not sure we do if I'm honest. Sounds like Osho can play there, add that to Keohane and McLaughlin and I think we've got cover for RB. The other side is another story...
He’s joining a team, and a manager, under a lot of pressure. I’m not sure how the finances stack up at Portman Road but they’ll be desperate to get promotion and avoid a 3rd season in League One. They don’t want to stuck in this division; as the likes of Portsmouth and Sunderland have discovered it’s far too easy to become becalmed at this level.
