Surely it`s not too late to get another striker onboard before we get too far into this next crucial period.
Jim does not seem to think Rodney can do a full game- for whatever reason. At 27 he is the youngest of our thin group of strikers. Taking him off with Hendo against Southend whilst we were not winning says a lot. Sure it paid off- in the 95th minute. Mani D looked lost at first on his own, though he produced the winning goal with a beautiful sidefoot. Bear in mind Devante has scored 1 goal in his last 12 games, though has assists.
There must be strikers around who have missed out on a move when the EFL transfer deadline passed. They (and especially their agents) might be ready to move on. At our league position we should be a good prospect.

We play with one central striker. We have three no.9s available at present. Dieseruvwe and Henderson have proven they can contribute goals. Duku has just come in and must realise he’s not first choice and an option off the bench. He also has 7 goals this season. Rodney is not included in this category.
If we sign another forward it would mean they are competing with Rodney, Barlow, McBride, Burger, Pritchard, Allarakhia and Mancini for one of the two wide forward positions. Having those many options has seen the like of Pritchard and Burger make vital contributions to late winners.
What we need, is for Rodney to find his goalscoring form from that position. If there’s a goalscoring wide forward available within our budget, I’m sure we’d already have explored the option. |  |

Rodney was subbed 16 minutes after Hendo. I commented post-match that during that spell, Mani D was isolated due to Rodney playing too deep. JM changed it by introducing Allarakhia, a more attacking wideman than Moss, but more importantly, Pettit, which anchored the midfield whilst allowing Gilmour and East to push further forward
It worked, of course. We also have Manny D, Smith when fit, and i'm not sure bringing someone else of any reasonable quality in now to sit on the bench (or not even that) would be much of an option, especially for any forward looking for game-time because they're not catching where they are now [Post edited 1 Feb 15:25]

We may need to rotate strikers due to change of circumstances re injury, suspension, loss of form or any of the issues affecting a team going all out for promotion, as I hope we are.
Those 5 players you mention are none of them goalscorers in the event. They have scored between them in 47 league starts a total of 7 goals, or roughly 1 goal every 7 starts. They could never be classified as goalscoring Number 10`s. What i am talking about is players who can put the ball in the net on a regular basis, Mani D has proved that here and Tyler Smith looked to be heading in the right direction. Duku is an unknown quantity to us inevitably, but I cannot see Jim playing him in the Number 10 role.
It may be significant that so many of our recent goals have come from defence and midfield, but we need more from the attack.
My overall point is that we need as much forward power as possible if we seriously want outpace York, and 90th minute winners won`t keep coming, nor wind affected crosses ending in the net or a left-foot scorcher from Ryan G.
Hendo could answer the call if he is given enough starts.

Murray was a centre forward. So if we had someone like him would you be resting Dieseruvwe? If so, how would that impact morale and, if it’s someone of a similar quality to Dieseruvwe, our budget?
We have players who have good goalscoring records for Dale (Dieseruvwe, Henderson and Rodney), others have a part to play too. Not least within our current structure where those in the 10s support how we defend too. Is there a goalscoring wide forward out there who can fit into that structure?
You’re right, we have Smith too, so hopefully he will return later in the season to continue where he left off.
As said previously, this would not even be a discussion if Rodney was in the same form as he was at the end of last season. I’d rather back him to come good and focus on the squad we have unless McNulty believes we need something extra.
There was a club not far from here who had a habit of signing striker after striker. I sincerely hope we don’t ever follow their lead. | |

We have scored TWO 90/90+ minute winners all season.
We have scored ONE wind affected cross ending in the net all season.
Kyron G, not Ryan G, has scored ONE left-footed scorcher all season.
Perhaps, instead, we'll keep finding other ways to win games, as we have done 21 times in the league this season, not to mention the number of clean sheets we have been able to keep. | |

Which we are doing, by pushing on to score 90th minute winners.
'We have become increasingly near to dropping points since we didn`t have Mani D`s and Rodney`s goals' - but we haven't done for the most part and regardless, isn't that in this fabled past? I make it we've played 13 games since Mani scored from open play and we've won 10 of them
'An incredibly lucky run of fixtures' - we played the same opponents as York in half of those fixtures and took six points, while York took four.
Since 19th December, Dale and York have also faced Truro at home and Altrincham away. We both picked up the same number of points (six) in those fixtures.
I get what you're saying about us not having the same fire power as York, but by the same token, they don't have the same defence as we do. If we don't concede - or certainly, if we only concede at the rate we have done - then by and large we don't lose and usually win. [Post edited 2 Feb 12:29]
