![]() Thursday, 29th Dec 2011 09:36 With the chance to ensure that we are top going into the New Year, St Mary's should be full. After the near full house for the visit of Palace, indeed only seats in the corporate and away areas were empty, St Mary's needs to be filled again for the visit of Bristol City on Friday night. OK its a bit of a pain being an evening kick off, but with it being not only in the school holidays but a bank holiday weekend and New Years Eve the next day its probably a rare occasion when A Friday Night kick off should be more convenient than a Satrday afternoon one. As the old saying says, "A football team is for life not just for Xmas" so it needs all those who turned up on Boxing Day to turn out again and roar the team on to another victory, one that will not only ensure that we are top of the league on New years day, but be one more win struck off the list of victories needed to see us into the premier league. Saints are in third place in the attendance league at present, just behind Derby County who enjoyed a sell out crowd of 33,010 for the visit of Leeds on Boxing Day, strangely excactly the number who were there for the visit of Saints, they look certain to fill Pride Park again on Saturday for West Ham's trip there, however after that Saints have a great opportunity to jump into second place if they can get significantly bigger crowds than our average for the visit of Leicester and Cardiff in January. Not to mention that a good crowd tonight would mean that we go into the New year with an average attendance way over double that of our much loved near neighbours from the Eastern End of the M27. But Saints fans should want to go to see their team march on towards the Premier League, with 30 goals scored for and 8 against, no one is walking out of the ground and complaining they havent seen a good game with a few goals, with an average of well over 3 per game, exactly 2.5 per game scored by Saints, surely the best home team in the Football league deserves to be playing to near full houses week in week out.
