Agreed, looking forward to getting our first look at him in a Dale shirt this coming Saturday. Just the Keeper now lets hope we have some good news regarding our new number 1 this week.

| Signing #6 inbound... on 18:17 - Jul 6 with 4846 views | cumbria_dale | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Farman maybe for the keeper spot? Left Barrow this summer after years of loyal service. Would join up with Lillis and now Jason Taylor who were both at Barrow previously. 35 isnt too old for a keeper. He's solid. | | | |

Good call, and certainly isn't too old

| Signing #6 inbound... on 19:28 - Jul 6 with 4703 views | SaxonDale | Know it's not everyone's preference, but I'd be happy with another loan keeper. Thought we were just very unlucky with the injury situation last year. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Signing #6 inbound... on 19:37 - Jul 6 with 4672 views | SaxonDale | Re: Dieseruvwe- I think he'll make us more direct and speed up play from defence when needed. His goalscoring record is a huge bonus but tbh if he can bring Hendo, Rodney, Mancini etc into play 20 yards from goal then they'll have a lot of success next season and something we really lacked with Kairo. | | | |
| Signing #6 inbound... on 20:04 - Jul 6 with 4621 views | Delboy | Having watched quite a few Hartlepool videos recently its obvious that Mani is also going to be an asset when we are defending corners and free kicks. He seems to be able to get a defensive header in when needed. An added bonus bearing our vulnerability to the cross in the past. | | | |

I think we played five different keepers last season, ridiculous that. Personally I wasn't over impressed with any of them. They were all decent shot stoppers but lacked experience when it came to imposing themselves and commanding their box and also their positional play and kicking. Waller was the best but he was prone to wandering too far from his goal and he was a bit on the short side. It's a important position so let's not blood young goalkeepers to benefit their parent clubs, we're better than that now. [Post edited 7 Jul 6:15]

But there lies the problem TS. Keepers are quite happy to be 3rd even 4th choice higher up the pyramid as they are still dragging good money. Money way above what we could afford. We either go for a full time keeper of less ability or stick with JMs strategy of mixing and matching throughout season. We will get good ones like Moulden who will then be picked off to be 2nd string in say a Championship club or ones of a lesser ability that we keep for a full season. The keeper is a crucial position but would we swop Mani for a good goalkeeper? These decisions are what JM is paid to make and for the board to sanction (or not)

Yes, a good observation that in respect to decent keepers willing to play second fiddle and just take the money. I thought somebody at the club, could have been McNulty, commented that a permanent goalkeeper would be a priority this season? I could have dreamed that though so don't hold me to it.

There was a funny video of him thanking Rochdale blowing kisses saying he was blessed with the extension. Looks a top lad Toby… just what a dressing room needs. I think he scored a few days later when we played Wealdstone at home.

He's just first team coach according to the post. Taylor is assistant head coach. Clear as mud! Just checked and the official website lists McNulty as Head Coach. [Post edited 7 Jul 16:19]

| Signing #6 inbound... on 11:35 - Jul 9 with 2700 views | samueloneils | Just a little puzzled by the signings. Why do we now have 9 midfielders signed for 1-2 years? These 9 scored 16 league goals between them for their respective clubs- 6 Dale and 3 new signings. Out of a total of 205 league appearances. So no goalpower there. Where is the pace in the squad that we knew we so desperately needed last season? Remember Hayes? 7 goals in 22 appearances. Opposing defences backtracked last season while we patently built our attacks.. Like the sound of Dieseruvwe. He looks exactly what we have been missing upfront. | | | |

We did not do too badly with a loan keeper in the past who played 26 times for us eventually was sold for £25million and is now on the verge of playing in the Club World Cup Final for Chelsea. If only Jim could conjure one up like that . We can only wish !!

I think the signings look sound but there's a part of me wondering if we are harvesting players also. By that i mean signing players who we think we can develop and sell on for a large profit over the next couple of years. Speculating to accumulate if the right financial 'gamble/ opportunity' presents itself? We can't do it via our academy so signing youngish players with experience at this level with a view to them kicking on and generating cash for the club makes sense. Personally i think its less of a gamble and a quicker return on your outlay than trying to find jewels in the crown of an academy. I know others prefer the academy route. The problem is keeping them all happy and giving them enough game time. [Post edited 9 Jul 16:43]

| Signing #6 inbound... on 09:04 - Jul 10 with 1909 views | wozzrafc | 100% that’s it. That was hills and flicker’s blue print and what gave us the success over the years. Get young talented players give them the opportunity to flourish. Sell them on with a ‘sell on’ clause and repeat with the next scouted player. No reason why you can’t do the academy too, but those players are more for progression to the first team, but if you get a diamond you can sell on so much the better. [Post edited 10 Jul 9:06]

that would be a massive gamble, and also pointless given the length of contracts (1-2 years). dont think the Ogdens would sanction such a gamble.

So there's no possibility that we have turned down bids for players and are maybe recruiting first before deciding to sell, bearing in mind the season starts soon? Most players we sign are a gamble and one of the top considerations will be the possible sell on value, its always been like that. Anyway, let's see but it wouldn't surprise me if we see players going in the opposite direction before the season starts. [Post edited 10 Jul 22:04]
