Just noticed that York have recalled goalkeeper Rory Watson loaned out to Scunthorpe. He played in their last game beating Aldershot. Interesting that Scunthorpe play in the FA Cup tomorrow away to Blackpool. We should be rested more perhaps giving us an edge. Every little helps.

The covers don't work. It's been dry ,sunny and windy today so pointless having it covered - oh and they dont work.
[Post edited 2 Nov 14:23]
I'd suggest that the covers would work under normal conditions, but they don't provide the protection needed to the current pitch.
Agree that covers on today, if they are on, is a negative. Today was a drying day for the surface with decent low humidity levels since late morning. We just don't know.
The covers we have need to be down from now until Tuesday afternoon to give some protection. Unfortunately, the current rain forecast has deteriorated for Tuesday 3 to 4pm onwards when the covers are off. That could of course change.
I mentioned this after Southend, but as long as there's some overlap between covers, and they are not completely watertight, hundreds of litres of water will find a way to relatively small areas of the pitch surface. On a poorly draining pitch, that's a very bad thing.
We are in such a great position right now, it would be a disaster if the all that hard work gets undone.

The covers obviously offer some protection, they wouldn’t have been bought otherwise (nor would other clubs have used them) but until the club update us with full information about what happened when the Southend game was called off, what lessons were learnt and what their future plans were, we can only speculate on what may happen next.
The current forecast on the Met Office site has heavy rain from 5pm on Tuesday and all the way through the game. As we saw last week, rain during a game has an impact.
With each hour that passes with nothing detailed from the club, any postponement/abandonment on Tuesday will draw deserved criticism. They can partly head this off by keeping supporters informed.
I think covers will work if they are 1 continous sheet on a roller, but separate sheets with joints just folded up in a heap on the side of the pitch I'm not so sure. Where does the water go that's falling on the sheets? If its not pumped away or somehow sponged up and removed its going onto the pitch somehow - there's little or no drainage to get rid of the water so unless we are pumping it away into tanks or containers I just don't see how they can protect the pitch.

Share your concerns on how they’re stored at the side of the pitch. This was brought up earlier in the year. How was it recommended to store them when not in use? Allowing players to trample over them in boots doesn’t seem wise.

There's a video here showing them being rolled out over a pitch. I guess we didn't get the rollers with ours? Also the first video shows the automated cover where its only 2 sheets (1 join) covering the length of the pitch. Obviously it costs more so that's why we've gone with the cheap option (with less success). https://matchsaver.com/video-gallery/

The Club has been excellent in so many ways since the Ogden take over. Lots to like, lots to get on board with and connect with the club.
Own goal with the covers though i am afraid. The storage of them has been a joke just how anybody can think after investing in them that dumping them (screwed up) pitchside for months is acceptable beggars belief.
This is the storage plan as its been like this since they were purchased. I would suggest the club review this immediately and take some manufacturing advice as it looks like what we have are already not fit for purpose.
No game on Saturday and with every hour of silence from the club the chances of a Tuesday night game evaporate.
Somebody HAS to take charge of this situation and now. No ifs no buts this is probably the number one reason our season could implode right before our eyes.
So the question is WHO is responsible?. The Senior Leadership web page shows Andy Duff as the Managing Director and Mike Curtis & Josh Haigh as Senior Head and Head Groundsman. I would suggest the 3 of them need a meeting today (Monday) and get a strategic plan together. How to store covers correctly should be part of that agenda.

Without doubt the club will be doing all they can to resolve this issue…perhaps we need an artificial pitch long term I’ve really no idea..?
Highly unlikely the game will be on all things considered.
This match will be off. We know the pitch is incapable of taking significant rainfall, we know the weather forecast over the next two days. The Club needs to grasp the nettle and state up front the true position and rearrange the match for 6th December when both clubs are available. To not do so would be a failure to those fans who have to make travelling plans and not least the Scunthorpe away followers.

Plastic pitch a couple of issues, firstly there is still a drainage problem as water still drains through , not as much admittedly suppose the water suction things we have could work, secondly it would be typical we get a plastic pitch then get promoted to league 2 then have to rip it up as plastic pitch are not allowed in EFL

Scunthorpe aren't yet available on that day.
You mean you STILL haven't worked out why some posts get down-ticked?

Oops !! Perhaps I was being a little premature. I shall be watching tonight with interest.😀
This had already been noted on the Southend thread earlier
You're also being premature in saying the game will be off. As things stand, the light rain is turning out to be very intermittent, and the heavier rain forecast may not be as heavy or prolonged as first suspected
It's all in the lap of the gods, and whatever efforts the club are employing to give the game the best chance of going ahead
That as a fanbase we are now conditioned to have real doubts about games whenever there is rain about has not been addressed well enough so far by the club.
It’s doubtful any other club in our division would be similarly concerned after a spell of different levels of rain. Looking at the OS, there is the usual guide released ahead of matchday with no mention of any concerns. So that’s either the case, or we are deciding whether to make supporters aware of the whole picture.
I get that the owners don't want to break the bank and want to make us sustainable but the pitch should have been a priority in the summer. Properly sorting it out so that this didn't keep happening. We're not even in the wettest part of the year and are going to have had multiple postponements.
With all the momentum we have in the league. Being stop start due to the pitch then having to play Sat/Tues when we wouldn't have needed to could really be the difference between going up and not.

I couldn’t agree more. This perfectly captures where I’m at with it too. I completely appreciate there were a number of factors behind why the pitch wasn’t addressed in the summer - the potential move of stadiums being an obvious one - and I’m sure those discussions came with their own complexities.
But whatever the mitigation, the unfortunate reality is that it’s now going to cost us momentum at a crucial point in the season. Nothing will change over the winter, and what a real shame it would be if “what might have been” ultimately comes down to the pitch itself, rather than what happens on it.

I'm pretty sure this is where the owners are at too, and share our annoyance and frustrations with the whole situation
The further deployment of the (no doubt expensive) machinery described in the update from Wednesday shows their commitment to trying to salvage the situation as much as is practicable. The only better immediate solution might be a raised canopy above the entire surface and i've little doubt this will have been explored but the kind of manpower and storage space required for such a system might just be beyond our capacities. The storage of the current covers is itself an issue but without the deployment of further considerable resources it could be difficult to avoid having them folded haphazardly at the sides on the playing area
I very much doubt any of this hasn't been considered. So what can we do but wait, and watch the weather forecasts

Whilst they are clearly trying to help the issues by spending what is obviously not an insignificant amount on this machinery, I think it's time we come to terms with facing the possibility of playing the rest of the season or at least the winter away from Spotland.
Pains me to say it but id approach Bury, local has an artificial pitch and plenty big enough venue to hold NL matches/crowds. Surely the money would come in handy to them, and we may as well use this machinery money on renting out another stadium in my view.
It's clear given the Southend game and tomorrow's game that we're going to be relying on a almost totally dry winter to complete the season, in Rochdale of all places....not going to happen.

Was there an inflatable cover deployed when we played Spurs, at Spurs expense, or was that to protect the pitch from frost?

You can protect the pitch as much as you like, but the water still has to go somewhere and it clearly isn't getting away into any drains.. what happens to the water that runs off the pitch onto the track?... nothing if it isn't getting to a drain. I suspect the pitch has developed a water table which never really drains away for 6 months of the year, The only quick-ish solution I can imagine is to dig a new drain / soakaway around the pitch edge and give the water somewhere to get away to.

The TV company paid for an air balloon type cover once ahead of a televised game. Not sure it was the Spurs game as we had only re-laid the pitch a week beforehand.
