| Th'Ashes Down Under on 04:50 - Nov 22 by TalkingSutty | 99 run lead at lunch. If we're still batting at the end of today then any lead over 300 is going to take some getting. Crawley was out to a great catch, didn't do much wrong with that shot. Edit..England batsman imploding again, ridiculous shots from Pope, Brook and Root. So lazy. [Post edited 22 Nov 5:26]

More garbage 20/20 batting and another sub 40 over inning. This is not test cricket.

There's quite a few similar examples of such games stretching all the way back to the beginning of Ashes history in the 19th century This is a test match, just a frenetic one. It takes all kinds, just go with it [Post edited 22 Nov 10:25]

And the last time we were dismissed twice in less than 40 overs was? Its crap cricket
| Th'Ashes Down Under on 10:04 - Nov 22 with 1954 views | fitzochris | Pitch has been lively, but not a minefield. Good bowling and poor shot selection, but today Head has just taken the opportunity where no England batsmen did. A good decision from the Aussies to open with him. Now, what can England learn from this for the second Test? | |

So easy to just say "crap cricket" I'd say "crap preparation" because test cricket deserves better prep than we've had Again, just saying "it's not test cricket" is meaningless

They have no idea about building an innings…they play 2020 shots from the start and after an impressive performance by the bowlers in the first innings they decide to bowl short in the second when Australia needed the highest total of the match at a ground where the team batting second had never won. Id say crap preparation leads to crap cricket. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Pope is the classic example of what you mention about building an innings. Played quite nicely in the first innings. Today he gets in and is 33 of 57 balls without looking troubled. He then throws his bat at a good ball for no reason. There was still 3 days and almost 2 sessions left !!! He knew it too. We have just been thrashed by 8 wickets by a team where only 2 players passed 26 runs and they had the best bowler of the game. That's all it took to beat us. Don't get me started on Crawley !!

Unbelievable throwing away of top order wickets because of too much reliance on 20 20 and the hundred. Both teams bowling was good but our performance was a million miles away from test cricket. And the aussies will strengthen when injured players return. Baseball didn't work on this pitch and it gives them a big advantage going forward.

Indeed…a great player of fast bowling without the need to throw his wicket away. He struggled with mental health issues post retirement. I hope they were not linked to his passing. I expect there will be a moments silence and black armbands at The Gabba.

5-2 ...why do we bother? Incompetent England. Edit...lunch and a good response from Crawley and Root. Surely we can now bat out the remainder of the day and put 300 on the board, give ourselves a chance. [Post edited 4 Dec 6:01]

Whilst never doubting our capacity to throw away a platform, at *tea* it looks far better than seemed possible after Starc's first two overs Don't like these day/night tests, just an unnecessary gimmick with conditions too variable once the lights come on

Yes, the conditions and format of these Tests heavily favour Australia. No team batting first and scoring over 260 in the first innings has lost one of these day/ nights, this next session is the crucial one i think.

Although, it does allow the less nocturnal of us over here the chance to listen to more of the action, which is a bonus.

| Th'Ashes Down Under on 12:10 - Dec 4 with 411 views | dingdangblue | The temptation to declare and having 30 mins at the Aussies with the new ball under lights must have been massive - however those last 61 runs in no time at all has swung the game back in England's favour. If we can somehow bat for another hour in the morning - especially see out the 6 overs left with the old ball and put on another 20-30 runs we have a great chance of levelling the series. | |

weird but brilliant days. We were 5-2, had 4 players getting a duck as well as a stupid run out. Yet amazing we are 322-9. At times we played sensibly against the lesser bowlers yet for some reason feel Starc is the one to throw the bat at. Will Jacks plays a sensible innings until Starc comes on then slashes at 2 balls, the second one getting him out. However at 5-2 then 264 for 9, we are now in a good position. Good point about the 6 overs tomorrow. Great opportunity to get those extra runs and perhaps even a half century for Archer.
| Th'Ashes Down Under on 17:50 - Dec 4 with 180 views | Dale_4_Life | Root quite magnificent. Sets up nicely - need to put some real pressure on the Aussies, get a decent first inning lead and then bat them completely out of the game. Bowling well and taking wickets when chances come vital tomorrow. | | | |
