Saints charged with spying 09:48 - May 9 with 128148 viewsKensalT

Southampton haven't yet denied these allegations!

For anyone who doesn't know Boro caught someone with some very sophisticated cameras and recording equipment spying on one of their training sessions.

Apparently Boro are looking into the possibility that Saints have done this to other teams this season.

Nightmare timing for the EFL. I can't see any way for them to fudge this

Big admirer of Gab Sutton but think he's soiled the duvet on this one. He's trying to say that diving to win a penalty is on the same level as what Eckert was doing.

Diving for penalties is wrong, but it's a split-second decision in the heat of a game, and it's being monitored by someone charged to determine if it's a foul or not, in real time. In the Prem there's a bank of them to check the checker.

For the manager to put in place a systematic policy of cheating, it's just on another level. The manager sets the tone for the club - the ethos, the attitude, the standards. This is trying to get away with cheating without being seen, he's only sorry because he got caught.

Southampton's output on this has been absolutely disgusting - the FA shouldn't penalise the manager because you'll penalise the club! You should have sacked him! Institutionalised cheating gets you the bullet in any other walk of life.

Agreed. Also, “if he could take back what he did, he would”.

What, just the Boro one? Or all the other times?

All the bloke wants to take back is getting caught.

“I sincerely regret …. getting caught. I let down my friends, family and trusted colleagues… by getting caught. If I knew what would happen if I got caught ….. etc etc”

I need a SAGA. What’s the SAGA? It’s ….. Queen’s Park Rangers.

Was your uncle the club doctor at Scunthorpe?

I know Mourinho gave Brian Laws a dossier after they beat Scunthorpe in the FA Cup in 2005.

Although he might have done it more than once.

I don't think anyone believes Bielsa was the only case of this. Just as I don't think anyone believes Southampton only spied four times and somehow never managed to win any of those games. But thinking it and proving it are two different things. And in the Southampton case the EFL were under a lot of pressure to reach a quick decision.

When Bielsa was caught the laws of the game weren't adequate to deal with the offence. And so he got off lightly.

That's why new laws were brought in.

100%
I think the biggest trick ever was Mourinho making everyone think he was a pr1ck, actually seemed like a nice guy in real life.

Also my Uncle put some stitches in for Wayne Routledge once, who as you can guess was massively brave about the whole ordeal! ;D

Aside from all the Chelscum content that you have to endure (inevitably) the Mourinho doc is really good; and he basically admitted he has two personalities inside and outside of football.

I was never sure about him but he came across really well in the Grenfell game hosted at LR.

The guy basically only wants to win and will more or less go to any lengths to do so. Maybe a bit like Eckert, but he made the mistake of being caught.

That "Mourinho doc" was quite something

Hope she wasn't too gentle with his prostate examination!

There was supposed to be an announcement a week ago. I wonder what's holding things up?

And the fact that his behaviour contributed towards death threats to a referee, who quit the game as a result, only for Mourinho to then mock him in a press conference a week afterwards.

Horrible piece of work.

Liked everyone else who has had time there, they need disinfecting when they leave. Some need an extensive repetitive course of treatment.

Apparently a suspended ban and fine i.e. a slap on the wrist for Eckert. No punishment of any substance handed down for blatant cheating.

Yes, it's ridiculous. I suppose they think they've punished the club enough already.

That's ridiculously lenient.

The Canada ladies coach and two administrators were banned for a year for a one-off incident.

Eckert has multiple offences and he is reported to have leant on junior staff to do the spying for him.

IMHO he should have at least been banned until the end of the season.

The club's punishment came from the EFL.

This was the FA looking at the conduct of the individual.

I would say he got away with one.

That is fair enough the club have been punished enough for something that has gone on for years with other clubs.

The point being of course that no one else got caught red handed like this and therefore a precedent should be set for it never to be done again. A suspended sentence of this manner hardly suggests that this is something that should never happen again.
Really poor penalty in my opinion.

Saints charged with spying on 20:33 - Oct 7 with 522 viewsfrancisbowles

This was an independent panel of KCs etc. The FA could appeal but much as I think they should, I don't think they will.

Apparently, the FA only asked for a three month ban. No surprise that the panel would undercut them.

People need to get their heads around the fact that punishments HAVE to get significantly more lenient as we move towards the Man City “punishment”

The Saints will see this as a victory
Other teams looking to have a dabble might see this as a bit of a green light (six point deduction was also a bit light in my book)

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Leeds got caught doing it and their manager got a 200k fine
Southampton have been fined 200 mill minimum by being denied promotion.
