Huge thanks to Jim McNulty regardless of anything else he got us promoted back to the football league.
If Jim was going to go then best early June it gives the club maximum chance to reset and build for another exciting season ahead.
Whilst Jim will always have my thanks this is football so the King is dead.. long live the king.
No reason to not remain really optimistic about the next chapter in our future. The new Manager comes in with the clear out already decided and the chance to bring in his players (as many as 12-14 including loans) to deliver what he wants to see.
As soon as Jim spoke to Stockport it was likely they would go for him. To me he is virtually unrivalled in his eloquence, thoughtfulness and demeanour in front of an audience. He will always do the best of any candidate at interview. He fitted hand in glove in what the Ogden’s wanted in a manager and was great for the brand. Sadly for them they will really struggle to find another like him. But that will be mitigated if they bring in someone who brings success on the pitch. An interesting side note is what happens with Corey Edwards now? We must have offered him something. If Jim let him go to Stockport I can’t see Edward’s being in his thoughts now. If I were him I would sign whatever is on offer now. That’s not to say he doesn’t deserve another shot at breaking into The Dale side. I wouldn’t mind seeing him given a chance. On what little I saw of him in a Dale shirt I think it’s worth a what would be a small gamble. For me Jim going somewhere was inevitable. So my view has not changed we need to sign 6 players who will be shoe in selections to start every game. If we do any manager worth their salt will make a decent fist of L2 with us. Up and onwards the Dale
It will be very interesting to see which way the club goes for next appointment.
1. Applications - Experienced old head? - League 2 experience? - Club affiliation? - Newly qualified ex-player? - Internal promotion? - Arno Slott?
2. Poaching - NL raid
3. Left field - Manny Begara - Bruce Dale - Jin Qi Nul Ti
1. An experienced manager with a decent track record at this level. A manager who has had enough of jumping from one job to the next.
2. A manager who wants to put down roots and is interested in overseeing all aspects of the club, in particularly the academy restart and the new training ground.
3. A manager who doesn't have the pressure of immediate promotion but wants to always aim to invade the play offs amd play a attractive brand of football.
4. A manager who can sign potential, improve them and sell on for a profit.
Those are the criteria i would be looking for in a new manager.
McNulty would have had targets for Dale in his sights and players like Gordon signing a new contract.
Maybe now that these players may go elsewhere like Cian Hayes who could well be Stockport bound. Also if Dale had any chanceof another season of Whatmuff on loan that may have gone out the window.
Whoever comes in will sign his type of player which could change the whole dynamics of what we have been used to, good or bad....

Nothing the club can do about that. It was McNulty's decision to leave for pastures new. The incoming manager might have better players in mind. McNulty might have stayed and we could have been relegated again. Nobody can say how it would have panned out. Time to move on and look forwards to a exciting new era on and off the pitch.

If we can find a manager who would suit our current squad but be able to challenge them to evolve how we play without moving too far away from what they know already works.
As long as it’s a manager with obvious commitment towards continuous improvement, then that’s the main thing. The club’s statement indicates they already had a plan in place to have that type of manager identified.
I don’t actually think experience of managing at the level is important as long as they have a good knowledge of what’s required and who is available to make sure we’re competitive. Stockport obviously thought similar when appointing McNulty.

I am sure MRKT will already have produced lists of target Head Coaches and Players and across a potentially world-wide talent pool, so we will need to appoint someone who accepts and relishes the situation of being Head Coach rather than Manager. We may lose out in terms of bringing in wildcards who may or may not be successful, but ultimately we gain from a system which is replicable at all levels and which produces players who can be effective within the system. Its what top teams do and we have set foot down the same path. Simply put, we know precisely what we want and people coming in know exactly what is expected. It builds continuity and restricts mis-steps... continuous improvement... W. Edwards Deming writ large...

It's a good question. Coleman was experienced but culturally didn't seem like a fit. Similar to Karl Robinson in a way. Stockdale had excellent pedigree and spoke well, but was out of his depth.
I appreciate there will be a desire to see then end of playing out from the back but we do have players in the squad who excelled in that system. Not sure I want to see the likes of Beckwith and Gilmour in more limited roles.
As an outside shout, I'd consider Mike Williamson. Similar style and formed a great bond with the club and fans at Gateshead. Started well at MK franchise and took the inevitable drop with a Carlisle team that probably didn't stand a chance.
Williamson is blamed 100% for our relegation at Carlisle, he took over from Simpson, made things far, far worse and left Hughes with an uphill struggle where avoiding relegation was impossible. He is totally inflexible and will try and shove round pegs into square holes to fit his ethos. If you want to come straight back down, employ him.
Any Ireland based fans now anymore about Damien Duff? He was in the running for Salford and his accomplishments seem hard to argue for a small club in Ireland. Interesting interview here with a Brian Kerr on Irish tv, frantic football sounds fun 😅
