| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Accrington Stanley on 18:20 - Oct 24 by EllDale | I’ve seen worse over the years (anyone else remember losing 6-0 to Plymouth at Spotland around 1973) but that’s way up the list of dispiriting performances. Comprehensively outplayed. And that midfield trio all played because the only current backup is a 16 year old rookie. |
I haven't seen today's game but I well remember the 6-0 mauling we got from Plymouth. One of their goals came from a Dale corner which was passed back towards a Dale player who missed his kick allowing them to race upfield and score while all our players watched from their half. Bangor city, Droylsden and several others were bad too. Most of Barrows tenure was as dull as ditchwater for fans...culminating in a 3-0 home defeat to Swansea which got him sacked. Sounds like we had a very off day today and fielded 2 or 3 players who aren't fit such is the injury crisis we face. Reports from friends at the game point to a couple of players in defence and one in Central midfield just not being good enough..

| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Accrington Stanley on 17:22 - Oct 24 by somdale | To be fair today was a case of all the chances the opposition have missed the last few weeks coming home to bite, defensively as a unit we are not good enough, and the clamour for Waller is proof that the fans have as much clue as the management 😀. If our passing is off, we literally have nothing else to offer, and today it wasnt only off, it was pathetic. We basically gave the game away. Tough to blame IW for this, he must be as shocked as anybody by the performance. The true definition of a shambles. We can blame the gaffer for not changing it, probably by the 20 minute mark you could see our shape wasnt working, there appears to be no plan B, and thats a worry. |
Pretty sure IW has a bit more control of things and accountability im afraid, id love to hear his thoughts why he didnt bother making any changes after half time probably even earlier on when it was clear as day after 15 mins we were clearly second best all over the pitch, still not to worry Dale managed to make a team without an away win since FEBRUARY look like PSG but we did a good job doing similar with Grimsby too midweek. Its glaringly obvious we have next to zero up front how we currently set up yet things noticeably change usually when Hendo inevitably enters the field, sadly thats generally chasing the game by that point though.

Difficult to find any positives from today.. Waller has conceded 16 in 5 appearances.... Accrington were quicker, slicker and more direct. We wanted to play possession football on a day that was crying out for pace and directness. But, with a better team sitting in the stands ( or more likely at home keeping warm) you can only play the cards that are dealt...Fate is not being kind to us at the moment. Isn't it always the case that when you have injuries, its never the fringe players with the problems? Sherring is either not very good or completely devoid of confidence, every ball he played was underhit or was simply the wrong ball at the wrong time, Francis is annonymous and the tactic of using two wingers was doomed as soon as their defenders denied them space and stopped them going down the outside. . Once the wingers were nullified it became one way traffic.. no plan B given the players available... I can't see a way forward at the moment, Accy simply ran over us, it was Gillingham on steroids..I think we have been rumbled. Accy probably came on Tuesday night and realised how limited we are and planned accordingly, as will everyone else until we get 6 or 7 injured players back into the team and on the bench...a tough season ahead I suspect...the defence has to improve, the midfield needs bite and guile and the attack needs goals and I dont see how its going to happen this side of Christmas...

Slightly off the crap show today, is Holt stil bankrolling Accrington? Not heard his name mentioned for some time. Anyway, they dicked us well and truly today and traditionally we have done well against them.

Neither inspire me with any confidence. You contradict yourself a bit by saying it's tough to blame Watson for this and then a couple of sentences later blaming him? |
Yh I did a bit, but I think with the way the whole team played his hands were tied, and I dont think there is much he could have done in fairness

I do agree, but he probably had trouble dealing with what he was seeing, and let's face it, it was so bad, was there much he could have done, to say it was an off day is a huge understatement. It definitely created more problems than it solved, and you can only hope it was a glitch, but like I also said, we have conceded so many chances in the run without defeats, its like our luck ran out

That’s the biggest worry, we give up way too many chances. The football is much quicker when we go forward, but the distances between players are still too great when we lose it. It relies too often on players making last ditch defensive blocks or saves for us to win games. That’s not saying Watson’s way can’t work but it needs individuals to be totally on it every game at the moment. The structure isn’t solid enough when a few aren’t. There are going to be trade offs when it comes to trying to be expansive, it’s on the manager to find a way to be harder to break down though. I feel a bit for Waller as he’s a decent enough keeper as we saw in his first spell, but he’s being exposed far too much to shots (it’s 20 conceded in his six games) That alone will knock his confidence and we have no option to replace him at present.

Recruitment hasn't been good, they're being conditioned badly and or made of glass. The manager is acting like he's playing CM on practice mode trying to see what works. I know there's a 3 year plan but if we barely scrape survival in year one having shipped a ton of goals. I can only see us going one way in year 2.

| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Accrington Stanley on 20:25 - Oct 24 with 938 views | ProudDale | An awful day to go and watch football. Particularly the tripe that was served up today. The injuries excuse it to some extent, but most of those have either played in ok teams in the past, usually at this level or for a successful Dale team. And whilst its hard to pin the whole blame on IW, its hard to think that a single person in the ground thought the team should remain the same as soon as the 3rd goal went in. At the very least get the army of subs warming up along the touchline to send the message to the rest of the team. To not make any subs at half time was verging on the negligent. Even if it was just optics for the crowd, and to give the whole place a lift, a couple should have been made. The obvious one was to take Sherring out of the firing line (the booing cannot improve anyones performance) and to put some more energy into midfield. Hendo was another obvious one that would have lifted everyone - the horse had well and truly bolted by the time he came on. Hard to see the 4000+ that came down today will be chomping at the bit to see the York game. | | | |
| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Accrington Stanley on 20:36 - Oct 24 with 879 views | dawlishdale | Just watched the highlights and IW's post match interview. As he says; it's unacceptable from everyone (including the Management I'd say) It puts the pressure well and truly back on and they will need a huge week to recover any confidence. Big individual errors from first goal to last all over the pitch. Only Middleton can hold his head up based on what I've seen. I also disagree with the lateness of the substitutions but can see we are short of options and also that it's cryingly obvious that Beckwith is nowhere near fit. He should be focusing on regaining more sharpness following a long injury so shouldn't really be brought on at all yet. Sherring looks a level or three out of his depth as does Waller. That's half the defence not at the standard we need. Midfield? I honestly didn't see any meaningful contributions from any of the three central midfield players; and haven't seen anywhere near enough effort from Francis in other matches. He needs to have a hard look at his effort and mobility. Have to say we made Accy look a class side. There goes the myth that we haven't really had a drubbing in L2 so far ( I think Newport schooled us as did Gillingham) Take Flint and Middleton out and we are probably currently playing at a lower standard that the last two seasons when playing at a lower level . Obviously the injuries have impacted on the strength of the team in a massive way. It will be vital that we recover and improve from this shambolic display in the coming weeks. Hopefully we can get a couple of players back fit and rest a couple who are struggling. It's going to be a big test again for IW following a spell where he began to win the fans over. Now he has to do it all again. | | | |

I agree he has to do it all over again Up next: Port Vale, who've scored just 6 league goals so far They'll likely see it as a chance to kick-start their season. If they do, we really are back in the mixer

The difference is results. We were getting them, now we’re not. We’re not doing anything differently, just more injuries and therefore less options when players drop off. We’ve gone from a team that was set up to control games, to one that is designed to attack quickly and play expansively. Until that’s perfected (if it can be when hopefully players return) then games and results will fluctuate in the extreme. Supporters need to try and stick with the team/manager until results reach a point where other routes forward have to be looked at. None of the above excuses the lack of work put in today, as seen on those highlights.

I honestly don't think Waller is the same keeper we had last time. He's had a few injuries and its definitely affected his mobility. It's harsh but I'd be looking at getting another keeper on loan whilst Ramming is injured. That 4th goal today which he parried straight to their player was pathetic. [Post edited 24 Oct 21:29]

Given the number of minutes Beckwith's had on the pitch now, plus the training and another full week under his belt, surely he should at least be starting games If it means we get to half time with a more solid base (Tasker at right back) that's got to be better than bringing him on when either the game's gone, or we're chasing it and the opposition have brought their replacements into the mix Then, see how long he can last in the second half until he's fully up to speed

Similarly with Hendo too start him and see how long he lasts, we look absolutely void of anything up front for any decent spells during games, the first half at Crewe showed some decent forward play but again no end product with just Brown to aim at in the box. Not sure how anyone could possibly describe 'Watsons way' as expansive football, jesus wept today was too predictable, slow paced, with a side order of too many sideways and backwards passing offering less than zero up front, if thats expansive give me the complete opposite every week please.

I agree. It’s why it’s difficult to defend Watson because he has made some silly decisions on one hand and then a distinct lack of the decisions on the other. He admitted he was wrong on Moss not playing and same again the other night with Hendo. What he see’s in Sherring who is clearly not an MRKT signing along with a few of the others is beyond me. Everyone played poorly today. Including the staff. I just don’t like the vibe from dugout. Something doesn’t seem right for me. Josh Lillis is the most vocal and active (and rightly so at the minute) but the body language and lack of activity and animation from the rest of them is odd. Beckwith has to start on Saturday. We need people in their natural positions. Not a RB playing left back and a centre half playing RB. Tasker has done well in rece recent weeks but we have landed back at the must get a clean sheet stage. So we must play our strongest team available and today wasn’t it. Francis, Sherring, Waller, Wilson, Adeeko all don’t get in our 11 last season. Telling sign on where we are. It’s a squad of 30 with 10 who shouldn’t be here.
| TVOS Preview - Rochdale v Accrington Stanley on 22:26 - Oct 24 with 366 views | Sandyman | Great performance by Accy. From a Rochdale "coach" who seemingly values "performance" very highly, where does our performance stand today? Awful is being kind. Watson says "no excuses" after today's spanking. His words are speaking louder than his actions to date. He looks worried in his post match. There were some poor individual player performances for sure . To see a team so weak, disorganised, unprepared for the opposition, second to most balls, lacking in character and team spirit is on the coach. Thought we'd got past the horror shows of the friendlies and early league games. Seems like we've got worse. We've had a few good games this season. Had we not got lucky v Oldham and got the 0 points we should have if they could shoot properly, deduct those three points and then look at the league table. 23rd. Fortunately, we're not. Hope we improve massively for next Saturday's game which could influence the lower end of the table. If not, Watson's tenure must be seriously questioned. Again. | |

Watching Accy was what I thought we’d ordered from South Shields. He’s had circa 16 competitive games in change now if you include the America cup. In addition to that 6/7 friendlies. I still sit here now wondering when we will control a game for 90 minutes and look polished. Injuries have played a part, no denying that. But whatever the 11 I’m not sure we have a full turn key plan for a game. He’s learning on the job which is acceptable but it’s not what was promised. Far from it. And he has probably been backed more than any other manager in this football clubs history.

Because it has been. Fleetwood away the best example so far. The first half on Tuesday was a very open game too, get it wide as quickly as possible and get crosses in - see Brown’s goal. Does it happen enough? Nope. But it’s obvious that is what they’re aiming for. The alternative is a more structured, controlled approach which reduces the distances between players. Like the last three seasons.

I’m with you on the theme of that last line. Whether it’s because the injury situation has contributed is one thing, but the way players have been collected has not always made sense. Why sign Silcott-Duberry if Smith and Middleton were on the radar? We could have made do with what we had. Why sign Sherring? Even if Maguire wasn’t fit we still had enough options at CH before looking at loans before the window shut. If we get to January and people are returning to fitness, would look to ship 4/5 out.

Keeping them all happy is borderline impossible so some leaving has to happen when the time Is right. Separately, the amount of squabbling, arms in the air and general poor body language and blame culture today and at other points throughout the season is hard to stomach. It’s a culture we didn’t really see under Jim. Or rarely anyway. Watson needs to get a grip of that fast.

Looked like a bunch of lads just not up for it in the rain. Mentioned it at half time but those booing any of our players mid game or singing "f*cking hate [own player]" just piss off that's not support and not helpful on an already shit afternoon.
