So, out of morbid curiosity, I had a look at how Cardiff are doing. Turns out they’re top of the league—played five, won four, drawn one. And yes, that’s Brian Barry Murphy at the helm. The same Brian Barry Murphy we once treated like he’d just wandered in off the street with a traffic cone on his head.

Maybe this is his road-to-Damascus moment… or maybe football’s just a glitchy simulation and we’re all NPCs. Who knows?

I do like to check in on the ghosts of Rochdale past—Blackpool, Peterborough (which, let’s face it, is basically Dale in exile). And now Cardiff. I’ll be watching. Like spotting Jamie Lee Curtis in Trading Places—who knew?.

Trading places - so good that film...

I thought you had had enough of this forum after 33 years you said, and wouldn't be back. How strange you are back. How do you think Little Jim as you called him is doing? You hated that he had been appointed.

BBM is doing okay for himself at Cardiff. Remember he walked away from us. And it looks like all that time in Youth Football and shadowing Van Nistelrooy has done him some good. I can only wish him well.

Yeah, I said I was leaving the forum—so did Frank Sinatra, and he toured for another 15 years. Some of us just can’t look away from a slow-motion car crash… especially when it’s wearing a club tracksuit and giving post-match interviews like he’s reading off the back of a cereal box.

“Little Jim,” bless him—still looks like someone who won a competition to manage a football club and you just know that somewhere in the UK an ASDA is missing its Assistance manager: Nights. I don’t hate the guy, I just think appointing him was like giving your nan a chainsaw because she once watched Gardener’s World.

And BBM? Fair play. Walked out on us, went underground like a tactical monk, and now suddenly he's Cruyff with a hair transplant. Amazing.

But genuinely—credit where it’s due. I hope he thrives, that's why I make a point to follow all the x-players etc. I hope Jim finds his feet. And I hope Peterborough stop hoarding our ex-players like it’s a Rochdale-themed Pokémon set.

Your forgot to give your opinion on trading places...

Go on... have the last word...

Still didn't care about the club. Good riddanpce to him, not a nice person. Didn't love the club, secret contract and a mate of Bottomley. His associates are poor also. Give me Jim McNulty and his shortfalls a million times over BBM and his lap dogs. Neither of them are welcome back to this club. Jim's done a decent job and when he leaves he willl be welcomed back even if things don't work out. BBM was our worst ever manager for numerous reasons.

There's me thinking a new soporific timepiece with sideways only hand movement had been released.

Poll: What is it to be then?

I really do wish the worst for BBM, symptomatic of all that was wrong with the club during his spell. He was in cahoots with DB and should be remembered as such. Also, his missus is an absolute helmet.

No matter how well he does elsewhere, the fact is that he was a total failure at Dale as far as outcomes, as well as being a disgrace in many of his actions. I personally could never wish him well.

They are probably just aware of our draw at Old Trafford and our draw with Newcastle United.

This trope really bothers me. The amount of times I've heard/read it - never once from a Dale fan either - makes me think it's just a case of a lie being repeated so often people become convinced of it being the truth!

Having been through anything remotely to do with Man City he'll be classed as a disciple of Pep, as such makes a career out of over playing a football, Arteta is stealing a living on the back of it too years later.

Big interview with BBM in today’s Guardian as Cardiff play Chelsea in the League Cup this week.
Quite a good read with several Dale mentions.

He managed to relegate a good Dale team and signed a contract extension knowing full well that there was media silence on it and the fans hadn't been informed. He had no love for the club, i hope Chelsea batter them, their league form implodes and that odious little man gets sacked. Sorry for sounding so bitter but i hate managers and players who declare their love for the club and then act in a underhanded way. No class whatsoever that fella and that goes for his agents at the time also.

I'm not saying you are wrong but in the interests of balance I'm going to throw my (very) unpopular opinion into the mix.

That COVID season means absolutely nothing to me. There's a very long read study (link below) outlining the effects of no crowds that season. Across all European leagues home wins, shots, shots no target, tackles, bookings, all decreased dramatically for home teams. It's fair to say that there was probably zero chance that with a crowd we go 18 home games without a win. And certainly Liverpool do not lose 6 consecutive games at Anfield with a crowd. That season should never have happened in my opinion, it was a travesty & threw up all manner of oddities that have never been seen before or since.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8670806/

Apart from that the two cup games against Man United & Newcastle are up there with my favourite moments as a Dale fan & the survival at the end of the 18/19 season was unexpected & enjoyable. I would certainly have preferred him to have stayed on than end up with Robbie Stockdale & Jim Bentley!

You're entitled to your unpopular opinion. The COVID season wasn't unique to our club and the Newcastle away game was one the most insipid wimpish performances i've seen..BBM was pleased with it though.

"I would certainly have preferred him to have stayed on than end up with Robbie Stockdale & Jim Bentley"

But the point is that he chose NOT to stay on and left the club in limbo by his actions. What happened before then isn't really relevant.
