Match Thread: Rochdale vs Lincoln on 17:15 - Dec 5 with 2028 views | rochdaleriddler | We were beaten by a good team today, they pressed high and forced ambitious long balls which didn’t work. No lack of effort, couple of knocks to Lund and Rathbone that don’t look too good. Lynch not good enough

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Lincoln on 17:16 - Dec 5 with 2018 views | Shun | We weren’t bad but Lincoln were much better. They really impressed me actually. The last time I saw them under the Cowleys they were... agricultural, I’ll say, hoofing it up to a big man all game. Today they played good football and were excellently organised. They’re worthy of their position in 2nd place. Lynch should’ve done better for both goals I thought, the second one especially. Morley and Newby quite anonymous, Keohane my MOM, the rest were 6/10 performances.

What did Keohane do to warrant your MOM? Though I guess nobody really stood out today. Paper thin squad will really be tested if Ollie and Lund are out for any great length of time.

He seemed like the only one who tried to attack on anywhere approaching a consistent basis.

I thought Lund had a particularly poor game today. Showed a lack control on an excellent surface, and second best to every ball leading to fouls which could easily have resulted in an early departure. Not sure why that didn't happen (either by the ref or by BBM), especially after his arm injury. And that's coming from a fan of his!

I thought he was particularly poor again today. Constantly passed backwards, and looks way off the pace of any attacker who runs at him. Certainly not MOM contender.

It's Plymouth, not the other side of the world. The players would've been back in the early hours Wednesday and probably have the rest of the day off. Oh, and Lincoln played Tuesday night too. And won three days after playing at...Plymouth. No 'hangover' there.

Irrespective of whether BBM's position is under any threat (i very much doubt it), could we afford to change horses now? I do, however, share your gloom over certain aspects of our footballing setup

But Lincoln played at home Tuesday just gone they didn't have a player go to hospital after a head injury. I'd be surprised if many of our squad got a decent nights sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, with the adrenaline from the win combined with concern for their team mate. Lincoln played bottom of the table Wigan, who hadn't had the fillip of news of a poterntial take over, after their trip to Plymouth. Also they played Plymouth saturday afternoon so wouldn't have got back as late as we did after playing them. [Post edited 5 Dec 2020 18:07]

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Lincoln on 15:53 - Dec 5 by Shun | Agree with that. Lincoln are playing well and we’re matching them. Goal aside, we’ve had a few half-chances each. Who does the match stats for us? Is it a Dale employee or an external figure? They were well off in our last home match and they’re similarly wrong today. How can we have had zero shots on target when Morley’s (from the free kick) and Humphrys’ were patently on target? |
These stats always used to be compiled by someone at the game representing the Press Association. In many cases the person concerned was an ex-player.

Not to mention that Rochdale is an extra 15 miles (or 13.8 as you like to be so precise about everything, 27.6 round trip!) from Plymouth than Lincoln. That extra travel could be a factor. Yes, you're right, it must be a hangover from Tuesday. That must explain all the other crap home performances this season as well, I think you've cracked it.

Not after they won said game at Plymouth 4-0 and were "buzzing" on the way home.

There's one thing that's frighteningly obvious we've struggled for any consistency at all for what seems like years, somehow seem to go from world beaters to absolutely shite in the space of 45 mins of football, takes some doing.

I was referring to today's performance and how a number of players were not on song today. Tuesday night was the furthest the squad have travelled so far. Yes they were buzzing after the win and there was good news about Beesley before they set on their journey back to Lancashire. It was a theory about today's performance. Im glad it has given you purpose on the board to continue your bullying.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Lincoln on 18:50 - Dec 5 with 1302 views | AtThePeake | Lincoln are up there with Hull as the two stand-out teams we've seen this season and it's no surprise that they're the teams currently in the top two. Appleton has built a squad in his image with some decent backing at his disposal and they had enough about them to brush us aside today, although it was pretty even up until the goal. Over the 90 minutes though, far too many poor displays for us to compete with a team like that today unfortunately. Dooley cannot be relied on to do much, Newby is very inconsistent so far, Morley is struggling to find any sort of rhythm despite that fine strike the other night and as others have mentioned, Lund was really poor today. I also thought Roberts struggled - not so much defensively or even carrying the ball out but a lot of aimless or misplaced passes forward. Humphrys laboured but lacked support. Trying to look at a couple of positives though... On the difference in home/away form, is it worth noting that we've played three of the bottom four away from home so far whilst playing three of the top four at home? It definitely doesn't explain the full extent of the difference in points and performances, but it probably is worth noting (particularly given that home advantage statistically speaking seems to count for less without supporters). It could be an advantage for us later in the season if supporters are allowed back in for crunch home fixtures against fellow relegation candidates. Overall, at the start of the season I expected many more matches like today than Tuesday and if we finish the campaign in 18th, where we are now, I'll be happy with that. Struggling for any more positives on today's showing beyond that though.

We’ve won 4-0 away this week and just lost to a team steaming on near the top of the league. No shame in that. We’ll be inconsistent all season because with our squad and resources we are likely to finish in the lower third of the league. Win one, lose a few. Repeat. I’d rather we go on a 10 game winning run of course but it’s dream land and an unrealistic expectation. As for purgatory, if we gamble on firing off BBM (which would be madness IMO) what’s to say we aren’t designated to a league 2 hell?
