I thought you could take a throw in from anywhere as long as it was behind where it went out? More to the point it was awful game management from Dooley's throw which went straight out with about 2 mins left, we manage to keep it down there the game's as good as won.
Would've taken a point before the start but now feel a bit sick about it. Thought Roberts had a great game and Osho looks competent. I actually enjoyed listening to the Gills commentators as well, thought they were very fair. |

After we beat Wigan 5-0 at their place, we snatched a last minute draw against them at home a couple of weeks later
Similarly, Gills hammered us 4-1 at our place not long since, and end up snatching a last minute draw at theirs
Just one more quirk in the wild swings and roundabouts of this season
We have to take the positives from today, with the scratch team we put out, but recruitment in the final week of the window will be key to survival |  |

Refreshing change from hearing commentators who only see one side of things. Jim's sending off last week being a prime example, although one of them had the decency to apologise for saying it was awful by the ref.
Gutted we couldn't hold out, as I feel that our overall play deserved a win today, and the extra 2 points would have made a big difference with it being so close at the foot of the table.
Some good games today from several of our players. All the midfield did well, and Baah put a real shift in upfront. Keohane will obviously take the plaudits for his two well taken goals, but he shouldn't be played at fullback.
Let's hope Humps is back on Tuesday, but knowing our luck with injuries, it'll be a while before he is seen again. |  | | |

We've snatched a few very late draws recently, so although that was a sickening end to the game, we've had some good fortune of late, and when I saw that starting lineup I absolutely would've taken a point from this one.
Thought we played well in patches, but we missed the strength of Humphrys in the last 5 mins, as someone who could've held it up in the opposition half, and maybe taken it into the corner. | | | |

Having just looked it up, 'the referee will generally tolerate small discrepancies from where the throw in is taken', so I was wrong again. Regardless, it's a pity we couldn't defend it properly although Osho did initially get a header away.

Unfortunately all that most teams have to do to score against us , is to keep pumping the ball into our area. You don,t have to rip us apart with pace and passing, you don,t have to hit a 30 yd screamer, you don,t even have to pray for a deflection or dubious penalty. No, just a continuous stream of angled balls into the box and you will eventually score.
But why? Is it lack of physicality? Is it poor reaction time? Is it it poor positional marking that allows attackers to be goal side of defenders. Is it a lack of understanding of who should be picking who up? Is it a lack of an organiser with a powerful shout. Is it a lack of height? Is it that BBM has filled their heads with zonal marking theories they dont understand? Is it that they think playing from the back also includes packed goalmouths as they often tried doing today so they don,t put their laces through it when required.
As has already been mentioned, the two lads commentating where enjoyable to listen to and they mentioned in the second half that Gillingham had missed a trick by playing to many short deliveries from corners and set pieces.
Two positive takeaways from today. It is obvious that we have a committed squad that does not give in easily and secondly these players are better than the position they lie in.
Sadly the third takeaway is that with teams having games in hand, the table is becoming more and more ominous and unless and until this defence is sorted out, we WILL go down.

One of their goals came from a short set-piece to be fair.
Totally agree though, it's so easy to score goals against us. If someone was to make a compilation of the goals we've conceded this season they would see a lot of very similar, scruffy goals scored from crosses into the box that we have failed to cope with, either initially or on the second ball. Actually thought Osho did okay in that regard today and yet we still managed to concede two goals in a similar fashion.
I like Bazunu and I don't necessarily blame him for either of the goals today, but I think we'd have conceded a lot less of these types of goals this season with Sanchez in goal. Unfortunately, as we're seeing from his appearances in the Premier League this season, keepers like him are a rare find at L1 level. |  |

It's been the case for a while that we struggle to do the basic, ugly stuff that most other teams seem to do OK - defending set pieces and balls into the box. Plus we're short on leadership and professionalism on the pitch at times and are a bit too nice and naive. Nice football between both boxes but not especially effective in either box and a bit powder puff - Gillingham seem like the opposite of that.
It's hard to imagine a team like Gillingham conceding at the end like we did. In fact I can remember a game there a few years ago when we were down to 9 men and losing 1-0 and they were still keeping the ball in the corner at the end. Extreme example, but a bit of experience and game management today would have seen us get two massively valuable extra points. It wasn't even a game where we were under much pressure to hang on. Draws like this are useful but only when you're backing them up with home wins - really need to rediscover that habit on Tuesday. | | | |

Crucially they identified the problems, we have all seen, one post said we mess around with the ball in defence (which is true), when we are pressed by the opposition, we struggle and our defence is flimsy.

If we can’t defend balls into our penalty area then one solution is surely to close down the wide men delivering them?
For several seasons now though we seem to be unable to this do basic fundamental.
When Joe Bunney (for example) was deemed to be vulnerable we’d put a midfielder in front of him to shield him. Joe Thompson was often an unsung hero in this respect.
If Keohane is struggling then adapt the way the team is set-up to protect him. | | | |
