No height up front. I really don’t see what Tyler Smith offers. Surely you start Rodney with Hendo if Mani D not ready to start and Mani D 2 not available?

Hang on…….

Excellent first half. Changes have worked and we could and maybe should be 4 up.

Gilmour imperious.

Every time we up the tempo we are cutting them apart. Missed penalty, hit the post and bar. Could be five up. Only issue is Smith going off injured.

Post, Crossbar, Missed pen... 2-0 up. Decent half.

Borehamwood one down but have the Braintree defence forgotten to get on the coach to York?

As things stand, clear daylight between Dale/York and the rest

Could look different at full time, but a fight to the finish between us and York may be upon us, as was always likely

Currently averaging 2.44 points per game to Yorks 2.21. If we carried on at same rate that’s 112.5 points which is ridiculous.

Great performance today with some sensible squad rotation. Another clean sheet. Got to give credit to Hogan he was excellent after not being involved for some time.

Strange that we played Solihull after their 3-3 with Carlisle... then Truro today after their 3-3 with Brackley... and on Tuesday we play Southend after they were involved in a 3-3 today at Boston...

Another hard fought game for Southend. They won’t have much of a turnaround before they are back up the A1 a second time in 3 days.
They are now 15 points behind us, but there big incentive on Tuesday in that they have dropped out of the playoffs, albeit with games in hand.
Boreham Wood losing back to back is so unusual for teams in the top 7. But it creates that distance between the top two and the rest.

Hogan deserves so much credit. He was very good today, calm on the ball and fitted in to how we play at the back without disrupting the others around. Defensively really solid too with a great block in the first half.

Pettit came in and was solid, always looking forward for a pass. Barlow looked sharp in the first half as well, so that’s another plus.

The big thing from another professional win where we played some great stuff at times was the second half appearance from Dieseruvwe. He won every duel and held up every ball played into him. He was immaculate.

Henderson cemented his place as his stand-in though. A classic example of how to play the centre forward role.

Whatever changes are planned for Tuesday and going forward, today has shown everyone is fully inclusive and they all understand why they’re happening. We might disagree with some, but it’s hard to have doubts.

A very comfortable win today against a limited Truro team, did Watmuff have a save to make? The only disappointment was that we didn't put the game to bed and get the third goal. Another penalty miss also, Henderson has never been great from the spot. Smiths injury was also a worry.

We've always said that tempo is important and every time we upped it we looked a different team, i thought we were too slow moving it into our opponents half today and the main culprit was Hogan. The walking football, side to side passing and standing with your foot on the ball kills momentum not only in the performance but also in the crowd. Against really poor opponents i thought there was too much of that today which was a shame when you think we had a crowd of over 3000 home fans. Still a very good win though. Finally the pitch, i don't think we can complain with how it played, it was never going to be perfect but it played alright.

" i thought we were too slow moving it into our opponents half today and the main culprit was Hogan."

I think you're being very harsh with that. Truro didn't push to press him when on the ball so he didn't need to move it quickly. Even after the early goal he was afforded time to walk forward with it and make sure he picked the right pass allowing us to keep possession and build. EEL would have been asked to play exactly the same way.

I too thought the attendance was encouraging. Total respect for those Truro fans though.
Lots of encouraging things on the pitch too.
I’m beginning to think that, on the evidence so far, that Perry, rather than being just an adequate replacement for Beckwith, may actually be a slight improvement. Slightly concerned that Gordon looked to be struggling with a leg injury towards the end. Hope he’s fit for Tuesday.
Nice to see a cameo from Tutonda too. Looked fit and raring to go.
Two goals never seems to be enough though. If Truro had sneaked a late one it could have been squeaky bum time.
Hogan is a good old fashioned stopper centre half so I suppose it’s asking a lot of him to turn into a new John Stones.
Ours is the only game in the league this Tuesday so a chance to open a bigger gap on the teams below and perhaps be top of the league by 10pm.
Nice prospect of a fit Mani D and Rodney rested and ready to play.
We definitely need to take maximum points from the next few home games. Away form is great but there are difficult trips to the likes of Southend, Scunthorpe and Hartlepool still to negotiate.

An easy win and that's all you can do when you are expected to win. Plus points were Whatmuff's clean sheet again, Perry who looked a class above to be honest - when he settles after a few more games I expect he'll get forward a lot more and the return of Mani D - who we'll need fit and scoring if we are to finish top. Negatives were the walking football for too long at times - Truro were happy to sit back and never tried to close down Hogan at any time but we must have wasted a good 10 minutes play in our own half. Also we continue to miss lots of chances - hopefully with Mani D back this will improve. Defeats for Boreham Wood and Forest Green make the table look a lot less congested too. Southend on Tuesday is a massive game as York don't play and we can put pressure on them before weekend where we have a rest and York will need to win away.

McNulty mentions how the way we build attacks, waiting for the right opportunities is one of the reasons we aren’t conceding many chances or goals.

I suppose that's true - pissing about with the ball in your own half for 10 mins means the opposition don't have the ball to score with.
I'm just glad other teams haven't watched what Hartlepool did to us that first 45mins. It's fine ambling about with the ball under zero pressure but Hartlepool really put our defence under pressure and we couldn't handle it. Will be interesting how we do against a few teams these next few weeks who shouldn't be afraid of us.

20 wins from 25 games playing the same way indicates we’ll probably not change much. Both goals today came from times when we found that right opportunity playing out from the back. With Dieseruvwe back there’s the option to go longer when teams try and do what Hartlepool did, something we saw after he came on today.

Still think if we’d started Henderson instead of Smith that night at Accrington, it might have helped too. Selection error.

Dieseruvwe returning could not have come at a better time.

I thought Smith played well whilst he was on the pitch today. To me it looked as if Hendo was trying to 'coach' him as they played. May have just been imagining that hoping he stays as player/coach forever?

Southend next up.

We know what they will do, we’ve seen what they did to us in the playoffs, in the rain game, as they did against York.

They will come out of the blocks, press as a team, hustle as a team, put us under pressure.

Gilmour/East beware, a ball into your feet from Whatmuff will have someone all over your back every time. Every time.

Big Jim has got so much right this season learning from the past its remarkable and massive credit to him and management team for that.

I hope he preps the lads for Southend with lessons from the past too.

Good post. You're correct, the teams we are about to face wont sit back and let us stroll around with the ball, they wont watch a centre half walk up to the halfway line unopposed and try to pick out passes through to our forwards. Southend have Dallas up front, he's going to be a handful on Tuesday. I watched Scunthorpe v FGR last night and both teams were full of attacking Intent, high intensity football. We are going to have to match that intensity and put our chances away and unlike the Hartlepool game we are going to have to be on our game from the first whistle. That performance from Hartlepool in the first half wont have gone unnoticed by other managers.

I thought we played ok yesterday and bossed the game but Truro were awful, it was like a training game. The return of Mani D is massive because it now gives us the option of negating the oppositions forward press and going long into him, we also need Rodney on his game, he needs to start playing with a bit more intent and urgency. We're more than capable of beating these teams but it wont be in the manner we beat Truro yesterday, these teams are going to want to knock us out of our stride. They wont sit deep and sacrifice their own game, they'll attack us and we have to do the same to them. Quick passing and high tempo football is whats going to be needed, we have the players, let the handbrake off and let them express themselves.

My fear is that while we try to implement some sort of tactical master plan to stop the opposition we'll forget to play our own game, similar to when we played York at home in the cup.
