| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 19:04 - Jan 28 by D_Alien | It was noticeable last night how patient the crowd has become, absolutely due to our record and league position this time round. Of course, the two things are connected (style and form) but it's only natural for one or two sighs/groans to be heard when it appears the ball has been recycled which results in lost momentum from a promising position We're getting better all the time with variations, although it appeared EEL and Mani D were on different wavelengths when we went long a couple of times - something that can be rectified in training... Mani D starting a run into space a split second before/after EEL releases the pass to where he was before Before he was subbed, Rodney appeared to drop a bit deeper when he should've been closer to Mani. Pettit arriving gave our midfield more of an anchor, thus allowing Gilmour and Pritchard the freedom to press further upfield, resulting in the winner |
Nobody minds the odd groan really. It’s when it becomes frustration that could impact the calmness out on the pitch that it’ll become an issue. Would hope that won’t happen now and if it does it can be ignored by the players. The work they’ve put in over such a long time, sometimes with results not going how we’d all want, has steeled them for where we are now too. The consistent improvement in play and results has been evident over the last couple of years, reaching its culmination with the ability to shrug off a defeat and carry on regardless. It’s good that the patience has been recognised. And to be fair support within the ground during two promotion chasing campaigns has been mainly positive throughout. [Post edited 28 Jan 20:05]

No worries, DL, you've asked politely. It's games played by the team, as explained here for the Premier League: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo For 5 yellows it was 19 games. [Post edited 28 Jan 22:32]

I only have Dale records, Tony, but fermin's link is probably fairly accurate.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 18:24 - Jan 28 by TVOS1907 | Anyway... The next cut off point is 10 yellows in 37 National League matches, which would lead to a two-match ban. We are currently at: 6 Mani D 5 Gordon 4 Ebanks-Landell & Gilmour 3 Moss 2 Adebayo-Rowling, Barlow & Pettit 1 Beckwith, East, Gomez-Mancini, McBride, Myles, Pritchard, Rodney, Tutonda & Whatmuff |
As someone commented up-thread, winning is everything.. do I get bored watching the side to side shuffle ? Yes I do. Do I wish we had a winger who could race past a fullback and leave him for dead? Absolutely, and a re- make of Murray, Holt or Lambert to get on the end of his crosses would be wonderful... proper football, BUT.. getting into the car and driving home with a big grin on my face and not wanting to kick the next-door's cat when I get there is brilliant. Winning isn't quite "everything" but its the best thing as far as football is concerned. At long last we may well be able to tell others about the season we won game after game and lifted a trophy.....and noone will give a toss about how we did it...

It was often noted on here how it is a results business. Allowing time for those results to get better, month on month, year on year, was vital. If we’d reacted too hastily to the bad defeats, we wouldn’t have continued to improve. If results had taken a significant downturn of course we wouldn’t be where we are now. They didn’t and we now have a team playing some great football and winning games. The teams of the past had some cracking individuals capable of some great moments. They didn’t always, unfortunately, have the chance to play in such a well drilled football teams as now. The 4-3-3 Holt and Lambert were more often than not utilised in was indeed a great example of this. The way it fell apart when one or both weren’t in it proved that. The best thing about recent years is we are no longer falling apart when we lose individual players or games. Contrast to the previous half decade and the change couldn’t be any more significant.
