| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 21:46 - Jan 27 by frenzied | Brilliant work by Pritchard for the winner |
Him and Allarakhia made such a difference down that side after nullifying Scott-Morriss throughout (bar that scrappy goal which wasn’t down to how we set up in open play)

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 21:47 - Jan 27 by 442Dale | Been a high line every week. He seemed to make the wrong choice, would need to see again. What a win though. Southend had more of the ball second half without ever testing the keeper. The tactics throughout and subsequent subs won us that game. |
The thought occurred their time-wasting might even cost us at the end, but we have the stuff that champions are made of 2 pts clear, 2 games in hand, a rest till next Tuesday Agree about subs, possibly the biggest difference from last season, with the tactics to match Feels good to be a Daley tonight [Post edited 27 Jan 22:09]

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 20:34 - Jan 27 by 442Dale | Southend content to let us have it at the back. Lots of good approach play but a poor bit of defending for their goal before Gordon’s equaliser. Very different game to previous against the same opposition. They look like they’d take a point within minutes of kick off. |
Serves them right - wasted time throughout & only tried to play after they'd gone behind. Referee poor - Dallas made 4 fouls & a simulation in first half and no booking.

Agree about Pritchard (and Moss had done his defensive role well before) - not about Allarakhia - thought he overplayed and lost the ball more than once. Gilmour was immense, Gordon & Perry very good, Burger effective - Dieseruvwe less so. [Post edited 27 Jan 22:31]

We were lacking a spark, and the Manager made the subs early enough to give them time to make an impact. I commented as Taz came on that Jim was obviously deciding to go all out for the win. Fair play...I like a bold Manager who is brave enough to roll the dice.

They didn’t come and put much pressure on us as many thought. We just played our usual game, without creating the multitude of chances as we did on Saturday but it was against the second best defence in the division. That they didn’t cause us any real issues may have been partly due to the excellent tactical decision to play Moss as a LWB and making Scott Morriss wonder where he would get any space down that side. After that the switch that led to Pettit joining Gilmour in midfield and East going into one of the wider forward roles reduced their impetus after they started to have more of the ball too. The final killer sub was Pritchard who joined Allarakhia as a threat on the left and it resulted in the winner. A masterclass in remaining calm, sticking to a game plan and utilisation of the squad as a multitude of changes both in starting line up and substitutions were fully justified.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 22:39 - Jan 27 with 1381 views | jonahwhereru | As the lone Daley in Southend I was gutted I hadn’t come up when we went 2-1 up. But I have this ridiculous inner feeling that if I had made the trip for the third time we would have lost. Both Gordon and Gilmour were great tonight. Plus Manny held the ball up and played it through for Pritch, I don’t think and other Dale player could have done that at that stage. Gordon dances every dance, and I noticed he got cramped up after the foul in the final minute. Of anyone he needs a rest, but he is very difficult to replace in that side. Watched the game with my brother in law and me nephew and they were magnanimous in defeat, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the brother in law didn’t spit in me tea after the game. It would have still tasted sweet tonight anyways. JIim give the team and bench two days off now. They deserve it. UTD | | | |

Even though he lost it, it meant Scott Morriss had gone from thinking “I’m not getting a kick here” with Moss against him to “oh so now I’ll have to defend” once Allarakhia came on. It was, as R17 notes, bold. Both before and during the game.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 22:51 - Jan 27 with 1215 views | TalkingSutty | Well he did it, a signature win at home for the manager and i think he deserves to take the plaudits for it.He outsmarted one of the best managers in the league tonight. It appeared to me as though McNulty sacrificed our natural game a bit in order to negate Southends threats, a Southend team that gave York the runaround a couple of weeks ago and outplayed them on their own pitch. Bringing Moss into the team was a smart move, it worked. A big shout for Berger also, he put a great shift in. At times it was a bit attritional to watch and we created very little really, both keepers rarely tested. The win was built on being organised and solid and it's our most important home win since we dropped out of the EFL. These players are the real deal. [Post edited 28 Jan 6:07]

They weren’t last season before that late run which got them into the playoffs. I think he’s ok but has no clear tactical approach. They seem stuck between flooding forward and sitting back. Over-reliant on individuals.

They looked tired from the first whistle tonight but its no wonder, they've been up and down the motorway over the last few days. They travelled up today from Southend. A flat performance from them with no spark and when your opponents are all over you like a bad rash the minute you get the ball your energy levels are really tested. They are a very well organised team but overall we deserved the three points. I think Maher is a good manager, his teams play good football.

I agree, a signature win, that indicates we can come out on top when it really matters Our support was brilliant, and recognised by the players and BJ at the end Most pleased of all for the Ogdens. The input they've made to the club deserves to be rewarded

One thing that did add to the feel good factor was the condition of the pitch, it looked and played fantastic. The game would have been postponed this morning if the old pitch was still in place.

It's their 'keeper who looks a liability. Constantly kicking the ball out giving possession away. No bravery to dive at Pritchard's feet. I was in early and watching him in the warm up compared to Whatmuff and when balls were fired at him from the GK coach, he was dropping so many or they just bounced off him. After noticing it, part of me though he'll have a blinder now but nope. That they've conceded second fewest after us with him means their defence have to be really good, and we saw that a bit tonight. Glad he was picked again tonight and we win again without being at our best. [Post edited 27 Jan 23:15]

To be fair, they've travelled through Essex, Cambridgeshire and Lincs, so it's hardly surprising their performance was flat.

| Refwatch - Rochdale v Southend United on 23:32 - Jan 27 with 721 views | mikehunt | This was a massive result. To pull a win out of the hat after going a goal down to a welll drilled team who (I thought) did press us really hard was nothing short of sensational. This should give our lads a real confidence boost for the games to come. York must be sick as erm .... a very sick thing. I will let Jim off for the ponderous play. The results speak for themselves. But my neck aches from watching the ball being moved from side to side. I still think playing faster leads to more confusion for a defence, leading to more mistakes and more goal scoring opportunities. I am evidently a dinosaur in this regard. Well done the team tonight. As people have said, they stuck to their guns and it paid off (again). UTD | |
