Noted that home tickets not on sale from Monday due to GMP advice, obvious concern about York fans buying home tickets. (Undesirable but understandable from their side)
Very hard to think of methods to control, but here are some options.
1. Online electronic purchases of tickets allowable to season ticket holders.
Risk: If a season ticket holder buys tickets for York fans. Unlikely but possible
2. Online electronic sale to non season ticket holders who have purchased Dale home tickets previously
Risk. Would have to ensure tickets only up to say today are eligible as evidence. Otherwise Yorkies could buy for Wealdstone game then use that as eligibility.
3. Online postal tickets only purchasable to a postcode close to Rochdale. Limited number of tickets per online purchase
Risk - Odd local Yorkie could purchase
4. In person purchase only permissable with proof of address/id.
Risk - as above, odd local yorkie could purchase.
This would still be an issue for non county St holders who live outside of Rochdale, have never bought a ticket online for a Dale game. These would hopefully be a small number which could be managed on case by case.
It’s a challenge for the club to manage safety of fans for the obvious reason and i know if this was other way around, some would try to get home tickets also.
If it is a decider i hope York do the big screen at their place for those without a ticket. |  |

They can only do it before York put their tickets on sale. The minute they start selling them for the central blocks, there’s no room for manoeuvre with the requirement for segregation. It would need agreeing what end of the stand they’d have if the stand is to be split, something the police would have a say on. |  |

Any game where that's likely to happen will be a 'big' game, even if only for Dale. As and when we move into the EFL those kind of games are likely to happen more frequently so might as well bite the bullet now. Good to see someone high up in the club (even though he's leaving) making provision for the club's ambitions. Shows confidence... [Post edited 26 Mar 16:17]

Great to see it sold out so soon - also funny to see York fans perplexed that we actually sell out a fixture - there's multiple instances of this happening over the past couple of decades and it shows we have a fanbase that is willing to come out for big games. Their only ever sold out game was in the SL with York Knights so the sneering is strange to me.
The task for the club is getting this more consistently regardless of where we end up next season. It'd be nice if the interest in the final day could make it's way to Morecambe next weekend. The next fixtures in the diary are always the most important and we've plenty of footy to be played before the final day. | | | |

But if they are York fans (which I think is highly unlikely), the only two Dale games they will have bought home tickets for are the Morecambe and York matches, which will undoubtedly trigger suspicion among the Spotland ticketing hierarchy.
Also, they won't turn up for the Morecambe game, which would again be a trigger that they aren't bona fide Dale fans.
Although the ticketing system is digital and automated in many ways, it will still be monitored at such an important time as this. |  |

Jim mentioned more recent games with Oldham where we've lost and that Wilbutts side of the ground has been the loudest side. Even 1500 York fans will be loud if they are winning but probably less intimidating than having 3000 fans in it. They will do what they did with Carlisle too and cordon off the seats next to the pitch which is quite clever - Oldham did the same behind their goal and it looks like the stand is empty even though it isn't. |
One minor bonus about cordoning off the first few rows of the away end is that you don’t get the bellends at the front refusing to give the ball back when they’re winning late on, only to hilariously throw it back on when play resumes. |  | | |
