I left the Sandy fairly quickly at the end of the game, just as the security guys threw a bloke in a flower pot hat back into the stand and off the pitch..he was completely irrational , throwing punches, one of which hit a lad in the chest, no real damage done, but the lad then instantly wanted revenge , screaming " Im only 15 and he hit me"...I tried to tell him to calm down before he got arrested, to no effect, he was as mad as flowerpot hat and desperate to thump him back ..That moment was instructive to say the least... clearly there are far too many people, old and young, with no capacity to control their emotions...Its sport ffs, someone wins someone loses, its how it works, it's supposed to be an organised outlet for our baser instincts.. but somehow it has become absolute life and death itself for far too many.
On another note, the new refreshment van near the entrance caused quite a logjam on exiting the ground, I would be interested to know if people leaving later than me experienced any notable difficulties getting out of the Sandy Lane stand. |  | | |

Sadly, I think that most of those who went onto the pitch are not true Dale fans, who turn up week in, week out, but turn up for the big games, either way, they allowed York to compose themselves, which even the York manager admitted.
Now we must clear our minds, put the disappointments to one side and the players must become determined to finish the job next week and hopefully the week after. [Post edited 26 Apr 15:16]

Every person connected with the club needs to learn from this. A lack of composure on and off the field has cost us.
Yes, the fan encroachment played a big part. But Mani D and the team celebrated like had won the World Cup. Yes, probably one of the most important goals in their careers and our history. But, they lacked professionalism when it mattered the most. The clip of TAR dancing being streamed live while the game was in play sums it up.
We boxed for 13 rounds, and dropped our guard in the final round and took an uppercut to the chin. Game over. You can win all the other 12 rounds but it’s the result at the bell that counts.
The fans, the players and the staff probably all feel a bit embarrassed this morning. But we need to learn from it. York had their similar experience last week, and we were quick to laugh at them huddled round a phone. They had the last laugh yesterday.
Sometimes it’s these events that shape you. You don’t want to feel that again. Let’s hope the players find the fight rather than flight. Yesterday could well of poked the bear…

If they go to court i would imagine a banning order would be issued there, a lot more stringent than any football clubs version. A ban from every ground in the country, the vicinity of grounds and town centres on matchdays and signing on at the local police station. Also handing in your passport in respect of travelling abroad to atrend games. I think that's what these guys could be looking at if found guilty, it's a bit more than losing yourself in the moment and running on the pitch. You can't argue with decent CCTV evidence. Some of those on the pitch were really young children probably aged 10/11/12.. no need to go overboard and start shouting for everybody to be banned. A decent set of stewards with a visible supervisor taking charge would be a goid start. Eveey club as a version of the U block, maybe the stadium safety officer and CEO should liase with Oldham and Stockport and speak with their counterparts because controlling our version of the ultras should be a walk in the park compared to their's. That should be the first call, you would have thought learning from others mistakes and how they rectified them will have already been done though. Maybe get a delegation from the club and ask if you can attend a couple of matches and shadow how Stockport do things, they might have a play off game coming up. [Post edited 27 Apr 17:23]

I still mantain that under the circumstances of that game, the league title hanging on it and the time scored, a pitch invasion would have happened at nearly every ground in the country. We're all fans, we know thats the case and Dale fans are no different than any others. Fans came on the pitch from all four stands also, not just from the Pearl Street Stand. It's those individuals that went on for other reasons than over exuberhance that are the real issue. I'm not condoning people going on the pitch because they shouldn't do but had it not happened i would have been very surprised. The reaction wouldn't have been the same if we had scored in the 27th or 60th minute. We were in the last chance saloon..or so we thought. It's also been mentioned, the stewards are as much use as a chocolate fireguard and that was at a time when they were already positioned on the pitch perimeter.
If blanket bans are the answer then that would also apply to the young kids, females and elderly who also ended up on the pitch, it all gets a bit daft doesn't it. The players had about two minutes to see out the game, i don't buy into the idea that it was all the fans fault that we didn't win the league neither. We might score in the 97th minute to book a place at Wembley on Sunday or win on penalties. I still wouldn't be surprised to see some fans on the pitch. Same at every other club in the play offs also, it's very difficult to stop when you're playing for high stakes. Everybody lost their marbles when Mani scored that goal including the players and staff but when the club have never won a league title that's perfectly understandable. [Post edited 30 Apr 15:16]

Full Time i expected it.. And it would have been generally accepted for the reasons you state, large parts of your post I fully agree with.
This was not a celebratory invasion and then get quickly off the pitch.. It was a lot of people wandering around aimlessly playing a game of who could stay on the pitch longest phoning there incursion for social media gain.
They should be embarrassed but in the entitled world we live in there will be zero remorse or any acceptance that what they did probably fooked the whole season up for Dale*
