Afraid I'm not in that camp. I want them to struggle for a few seasons which, I'll be honest, is probably green eye with what we've been going through since our glory days. But we are the biggest and best club on the South Coast. Aren't we? Ironic noting that we were in the San Siro just 10 years ago. Yes last night they were at the Vitality, but it was against one of the giants of European football from that city

If they win a cup out of this it will be bloody annoying. We will have them chirping at us.

I agree. When I was a kid, in football Bournemouth was always a poor man’s Southampton. If we’d beaten AC Milan by 3 goals, we’d talk about it for years. I never understood the animosity towards them. Especially as many Saints fans live in the area. We have our hated rivals and it’s not them. Bournemouth is just a seaside town with half the shops closed in the centre of it. I say fair play to them for coming this far. No matter what happens in the future, they’ll always have these memories [Post edited 23 Oct 12:34]

I think the “animosity” to Bournemouth is a big tell of sotonians who support saints, and out of towners. Growing up I don’t remember a single person who disliked them, the opposite in fact, most like me would be genuinely happy for them to do well and still are. In fact I didn’t even know there was even supposed to be anything to it until I was probably in my mid 30s. All anyone from the city has ever cared about, and will ever care about, is the pikeys to the east. Hell I’ve seen more animosity and aggro to spurs in Southampton than Bournemouth.
| Bournemouth V AC Milan on 13:20 - Oct 23 with 575 views | shotters | I think it’s good to see an “unfashionable” club doing well, great night for them beating Milan, I remember how happy I was when we beat Inter at home In my experience the animosity has been from their side, I got chatting to a Cherries fan at a gig, it was the weekend before we lost to them under Martin. He was trying to wind me up and the praise and admiration I said I had for what they were doing seemed to annoy him more than biting Portsmouth, Aldershot and Spurs are the only teams I want to see lose on a weekly basis | |

One assumes that your hatred of the team to the east will override your annoyance at the bubble and you will still go to Fratton in February, yes?

Nope I fundamentally disagree with the bubble as it’s unnecessary and criminalises football fans. Besides it’s not the club I hate it’s the city. That said I’m perfectly accepting I might turn into a complete hypocrite and go when details are announced because the fear of not being their for a win will override my principles

To be fair I think I’m more likely not to be, one of the other things putting me off is it puts money into that cities economy which I hate doing. I wouldn’t got to a festival there or spend money in their shops as it sustains jobs for them

Agree, I always "looked out" for Bournemouth and didn't we used to cheer their results?? Or am I losing the plot? I had to move to Bournemouth in July 2000, bought my first house down there and went back for Saints matches with various Saints fans I came across down there and also took the odd Bournemouth fan along who wanted to come. No issues with them, happy to see them doing well in Europe, hope they enjoy it.

You are not wrong, late 80s and through most of the 90s the halftime scores would include the skates and cherries. Skates losing would be a cheer, cherries winning would be a cheer.
