I totally agree, he offered nothing for the time he was on the pitch.

Match thread: Pompey home on 17:05 - Apr 7 with 2996 views | 442Dale | Defensively we were very poor for all three of their goals but we played really well going forward. Would like to hear Hill’s thinking behind bringing Thompson on, he was off the pace and offered little protection and also reduced our options going forward. Wiseman coming on and moving Rafferty into midfield has worked recently, but for some reason that wasn’t the chosen route. Baffling.

Not at all. It’s his manager’s decision to bring him on.

Thompson isn’t the reason we have conceded 3 goals including a last minute equaliser. But he brings absolutely nothing to the field. Negative substitutions bring negative football. Wiseman was the player to bring on as well as Delaney. Wiseman offers support and work rate at he back aswell as offensively. Thompson doesn’t.

Match thread: Pompey home on 17:25 - Apr 7 with 2654 views | SaxonDale | Few thoughts: Absolutely gutting that we haven't won that- put simply we outplayed them for the majority of the game. Pitman is a class act but we needed leadership at the back today and we lacked it. Three really poor goals to concede and added onto that really poor judgement from Hendo to nudge Rafferty's goalbound header over the line when he was offside. Unfortunately as others have said Thompson made us look weaker, I'm not sure if we will see him again before the season's close. Inman was very good, as were all the midfield- that's the first time I can really remember us bossing the midfield. 3 really well crafted goals- somehow Hilly's got to get the players to focus on the positives as we can't afford to feel sorry for ourselves.

Pretty much my thoughts. All 3 goals were awful defensively. Thankfully we won’t play Pitman every week. Aside from that we were excellent, gutted not to win. We are not going down without a fight, that’s for sure.

Match thread: Pompey home on 17:31 - Apr 7 with 2581 views | rochdale_ranger | Gutting to have only got a point outta that. We played well and murdered them our strikers and midfielders were on great form. Gotta take it as a positive as I would of been happy with a point before the game. Onwards and upwards and let’s do the business against the pie eaters on Tuesday.
Match thread: Pompey home on 17:32 - Apr 7 with 2575 views | Shun | Devastating, we’ve just been well and truly robbed. Portsmouth looked dangerous going forward but we were the superior side. Our midfield three were all excellent and bossed the game. Agree with others that they were three sloppy goals to concede. Some of our play today was utterly beautiful, as it has been over the past month or so. The lead-up and finish for our second goal was just such good football. Ah well. A good performance. An unjust result but still a good point and a position higher.

He didn't do anything, a silly substitution, far better options available

Sums it up for me too. If we hadn’t have needed three points, would have enjoyed that today, or if I had been a neutral. [Post edited 7 Apr 2018 17:36]

Let's wait and hear what Hilly says about the baffling subs, will he hold his hands up or blame something else....? In my opinion that cost us 3 points today..

Portsmouth were poor at the back too. Very enjoyable game. Point could keep us up.

Against the run of play. Once those 2 defensive substitutions were made we handed them the initiative and threw away 2 points.

Match thread: Pompey home on 17:49 - Apr 7 with 2276 views | DaleFan7 | That's probably the best we've played at home all season. We've lost that due to bad substitions and tactics, not learning from the fact that all season we've not been able to hold onto a lead when we put 11 men behind the ball. Special mention to Rathbone. By far the best player on the pitch today.
Match thread: Pompey home on 17:50 - Apr 7 with 2244 views | JimmyRustler | Awful awful goals to concede. Jim massively at fault for the first IMO - Camps chasing the man and Jim, rather than standing his ground like the long in the tooth CH that he is, comes out rashly and totally misses the challenge before the bloke feeds Pittman at the backpost. Second goal, good finish from Pittman but once again defensively we look absolutely petrified to put a tackle in. Pittman is slower than the onset of AIDS but managed to get to the ball first. That should tell you everything you need to know. Third goal. Where do I start? Josh not commanding enough, Humphries then heads the ball out about 10 yards into the air where a spinal injury victim would have probably done a better job. Ball comes back, we lose the first and second headers, Josh once again rooted to his line and Done puts it into the net under pressure (lad behind Matty was virtually penetrating him so I reckon he would have put it in regardless tbf). Some great play going forward though. Inman is finally showing why he's been so highly rated in the past (and is actually tracking back successfully too). Rathbone is coming on leaps and bounds. Camps is getting better but still delights and frustrates in equal measure. Humphreys once again put a shift in and deserved the goal - same for Hendo. As for the subs, the Thompson thing was totally bizarre. Another player we haven't seen for a while in from cold with no real discernible logic behind the decision. The worst thing however was that by taking both Humphreys and Inman off, we had no chaser up top (Andrew was knackered) and so the ball just kept coming back with no pressure from the front. This ultimately let to them pumping more balls in than Ron Jeremy and well, as we know, it lead to our downfall. Make no mistake about it though, we battered em and fully deserved 3 points. Our game management is piss poor and when it comes to defending high balls in our own box, we look like an under 12's team. Ah well. Onto Wigan. [Post edited 7 Apr 2018 18:01]

Yes, but we can only affect ourselves and it’s cost us two points today. That substitution becomes more and more strange the longer you think about it. Look at Tuesday: yes, there’s the Wiseman option as mentioned, but Ntlhe came on and offered real energy in a more advanced role and he could have done exactly the same today by having Inman swap to the right (then Henderson there as he was on the left when Inman went off) and Ntlhe left. Or just leave Calvin right where he’d done so well and stick Henderson up front with Ntlhe coming on. Or Wiseman. It’s not that Thompson was ineffectual, it’s that we ignored two other options that were both used successfully four days ago! This is that age-old point that’s being made - the manager makes mistakes, today was another. It’s not a case of him being rubbish or deserving of a barrage of expletives, he just needs to know it’s on him at times and we’d like to see that acknowledged. Maybe he has, not heard the interview. Defending cost us victory today, poor choices didn’t help us either.
