Did I just see that Patrick Agyemang scored for Derby?

Not Dave, as if you didn't know.
He's an American, 6'4" signed Summer 25, and has 7 goals already.

Well OK but still doesn't explain why these things only seem to happen at football matches and not other sporting events.

Fair point!

I did a quick search and most of the data on spectator injuries seems to relate to football matches.

There's a comprehensive breakdown on football spectator injuries here:

https://sgsa.org.uk/document/s

For some reason the data does not include illness so it's difficult to show if medical emergencies in grounds are on the increase or if they're just being reported more! (But I agree with you that it does seem to be happening a lot more often)

Any specific reasons why we're suddenly getting all these medical emergencies at football matches? And why does it only seem to be football and not say, rugby or cricket?

You never heard about them even ten years ago, unless they just never got reported.

Odd.

Nobody would know about a medical emergency at cricket until the close of play. They might just be sleeping instead. And I’m a regular cricket spectator.

It's always happened, it's just that they are now instructed to stop the game whereas previously the game would just carry on. Bloke behind me at Charlton away a few years back had a heart attack and it was just dealt with while the game continued.

At least he missed Charlton's winner.

How would you know? How many other sporting events do you attend?

It's probably just numbers - league football attendances are around 35 million per year, rugby around 5 million and cricket 3 million. So on that alone it's more than four times as likely to happen at football.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

I'm just saying these incidents only get reported at football matches, it's odd it shouldn't happen at other sporting events.

Or - maybe it does but the matches carry on, whereas football matches are instructed to stop. (But again, why would that make football different to all other sports?)

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

It’s also far more common over the course of a football match to have heart rate spikes too I would have thought. I’m not into rugby or cricket to anything like the same extent but the sort of adrenaline rush we experience even at a fairly mundane second division match isn’t matched nearly as regularly even by passionate rugby/cricket fans (rugby league probably more so but the nature of the game still probably lends itself to being easier on the heart). Stick a load of mostly sedentary, not overly healthy middle-aged blokes into a football stadium environment and I’m surprised it’s not more common.

As others have said, this has been happening for years.

In terms of why it happens at football more than other sports, my initial guess is that there's probably 10 times as many people going to football each week than any other sports. That's a good place to start. I'm sure you could break it down further by demographics, the kinds of people that watch football vs say rugby.

I regularly get told I’ve reached my exercise goal for high intensity activity by my smart watch when I’m watching a match. So it must push up my heart rate, blood pressure etc.

Apologise if this is a Spackman but rumour that Barry Bannan is transferring to Millwall. Just our luck to have to play him three times in a season….

I see Birmingham have signed August Priske. 21 year old goal machine. Must have cost them a small fortune as half of Europe's been after him.

Never knowingly right.

Reports in their local press that fee is about £6 million and has been signed on a 5 and a half year contract

Great name, August Priske.
Sounds like a summer outdoor event in one of the Baltic states.

Dykes and Leaburn up top together is old school Wimbledon stuff. 1-0 down, one shot on target.
