Watson out. Sticking to my original thoughts. Absolute rubbish and borderline embarrassing

| Refwatch - Port Vale v Rochdale on 13:02 - Oct 31 by D_Alien | Sadly, and on the back of the board's own recruitment process being called into question, i now have to agree How do the board proceed if confidence in their own process is shattered though? |
They were commended for sticking with him less than a month ago. So you’d hope that whatever their decision is, it’s one they make which will see an upturn in results. Just as we weren’t great after a few wins, we aren’t totally finished after a few defeats (though the last couple of weeks certainly have been awful). Results business. Results determine mood and impact how the greater picture is looked at. Something that has been magnified over the last few seasons. If Watson lasts the season, it will be one where we look good for spells, poor for others. Because structurally we are far too open and expansive. If he chooses to change that, then it would need reassessing again.

Yes, of course. And we’ve witnessed that.

We just are not good enough at this moment, its that simple.

Half injured, and recruited to suit Watson's way of playing God knows what kind of outfit Paterson's now thinking he's joined This time, changes required before the start of the second half Beckwith, Hendo, Paterson as a minimum

Perhaps set up with a formation, personnel and tactic to control the game more - aim not to lose as a start? Earn the right to play and rebuild confidence.

Even with all the injuries there look to be serious issues - lacking basic organisation, motivation, fitness and sharpness, too flimsy and lightweight and not running enough. The players on the pitch should be able to compete better than this.

The change to a back three during the first half is a reflection of what he wants to see isn’t happening. Really can see what he wants to achieve, and when it goes right it’s good entertainment. However, it is only reinforcing the view that if you want to be successful on a consistent basis, especially on resources that won’t be at the highest at whatever level you play at, you have to have an effective way of playing. If that’s with a squad with players who want to play in a passing team, make sure they are able to do that as often as they want to retain control of the ball and the game.

Totally agree. And for the “not running enough” reason alone, it’s no surprise to see Hayes not reappear after half time.

Whilst I’m not sure yet whether I’m back to being Watson Out - the perceived wisdom from earlier in the season was that he needed to be given time with the squad. Well he’s had some more of that and we’ve gone from some decent results to totally capitulating, again, against teams who aren’t all that good. Is that all on the injuries when we’ve had loads of them all season? I think thats much more a criticism of the coaching. It’s also the manner we are playing and the goals we are conceding This again points to an issue with the manager. You could imagine that with key players out we might not play quite as well but could still do the basics. Right now we’re not even doing that. In other words I do think Watson might be more the problem than just blaming injuries. He’s certainly under pressure now and I think rightly so.

He can definitely play in the 10 rather than shoehorning a winger in there as we have tried today

Stick with him and wait for what exactly, isnt the last few games enough evidence already?
| Refwatch - Port Vale v Rochdale on 14:24 - Oct 31 with 1385 views | 49thseason | Hindsight is a wonderful thing but... there is too much right now that feels like 22-23....An inability to keep a clean sheet , no goalscorer, weak midfield and rooky defenders...five wingers and a centre forward who cant win headers... The injuriy situation is the only mitigation for an unbalanced squad in the sense that we dont have the physicality or experience needed at this level . L2 is a battle every week sometimes twice a week , we are nearly a third of the way into the season and need to accept we are in a relegation battle already.. and act accordingly...stop leaking goals, start nicking points , find a brute of a centre forward..and a midfield leader....stop the silly mistakes and play like men on a mission from the first whistle. Losing regularly has dire consequences at this level. | | | |
| Refwatch - Port Vale v Rochdale on 14:28 - Oct 31 with 1308 views | ProudDale | The two big q's that need to be asked at the moment are: Does it look like the current form/ direction of travel is temporary? Is IW the man to change it? The body evidence over the course of the season is not good with regard to both. Yes we had an upturn in results a month ago at a critical time, but if we replayed the Oldham game several times, there is no way a team misses those gilt edged chances again. And where does that put us? The players available clearly mean IW's massively hamstrung at the moment, but the team selection today after last week's bloodbath was a headscratcher. And this was not a set of opponents likely to challenge the top places in the league. Time for the biggest decision of the board to date, before its too late. | | | |
| Refwatch - Port Vale v Rochdale on 14:31 - Oct 31 with 1236 views | SJE_Dale | I thought we actually played quite well 2nd half. 1st goal came too late in the game but we stopped the rot and actually controlled a game for 45 minutes. If he's to keep his job I'd like to see the same system with the same players who finished the game starting. | | | |

And Beckwith; no idea why his fitness isn't up to enabling a better base than we've been starting with, even if for 60-70 minutes A place needs to be found for Paterson too, at least sharing the 90+ minutes with Hendo to begin with I think the board are likely to hold fire for the time being, but every game that goes by without a minimum degree of solidity pushes Watson further to the brink

| Refwatch - Port Vale v Rochdale on 14:36 - Oct 31 with 1155 views | dannyuk | A bit of luck had papered over the early-season cracks a bit and now we're somehow even worse than before. Vale had the luxury of pretty much resting for the second half, allowing us to look "better" when in reality, as shown with the 4th, they could have just gone on to get more if they had wanted to do so. I can't listen to any more of the utter bull interviews along the lines of "it won't happen again because we're an incredible, amazing group". Corner flag statement time for me. | | | |
| Refwatch - Port Vale v Rochdale on 14:37 - Oct 31 with 1138 views | WhitworthDale | The thing is, the injuries are a red herring. There is a lack of dersire, competence, anything to spark even a modicum of hope on the pitch from this team. The performancres in the main have been absolutely awful. Having to rely on Hendo to score is embarrasing at this point I think the players are not good enough but there is an exorbitant amount of tactical naivity here from the managent team who appear hopelessly inept. Some of the comments in his interviews are a huge red flag in my view. I'd be stunned if he's not gone by Monday. Go for Maynard now - this guy, and this team, are taking us down. | | | |
