We are dull, It's official. We play unimaginative and boring football. There's no point pretending anymore. We are just another football club now. Having matched us play a uneventful game today against Sunderland, I was left with a feeling of disappointment and frustration. There more questions than answers like what is our game plan without the ball, why can't we play a different formation and why o why is Nathan Dyer is starting?. We have no tempo, we have no style, we have no leaders, we have no character and we have no plan a let alone a plan b. I know people will say look at the table, look at our points tally and they may have a point but look at the football pitch. We have been lucky in lots of games this season. Burnley deserved atleast a point, how we got a anything from the Villa is still a mystery, we also didn't deserve anything from West Ham at home, Everton away and Sunderland away and that's not even mentioning last Sunday against Southampton. We are not special anymore, we don't play great football our even good football. We have become boring, boring Swansea City

I thought yesterday's was a decent, entertaining game. Not a classic but very few are. Performance wise it was a big improvement from recent efforts, the win at Southampton notwithstanding. Yesterday was very similar to so many games under Rodgers and Laudrup. That's not a criticism

We had 60% possession and didn't win the game. Last week we had 35% possession and did. Both games have attracted criticism from the club's own "fans".

I loved how we played during our first few years in this league. I agree that that has changed somewhat, although to say it's been totally abandoned is nonsense. Comparisons with Pulis' Stoke are nonsense (I realise FoaJP made that comparison to illustrate a point but others have made it previously in a more serious vein). We are now hardier, more realistic and can adapt to different games and styles. Our points total illustrates the success of that pragmatism.

We have 34 points and are comfortable, more comfortable at this stage of the season than we've ever been in this league. We could have 50 points and be even more comfortable and we'd still be whining about something.

Lots of talk about the club losing its identity. Seems to me that Swans fans have lost their identity. No longer "not just another football club". We now have fans that are just like any other Premier League club. Spoilt, self serving, a massive sense of entitlement fed by dewy-eyed nostalgia for a past that never really existed.

You started but rambled into what most people are doing. I never used the word abandoned andI never compared them to Stoke. As for fans being spoilt, I don't believe we have any right to expect to be a premier league side.

Shit thread.

Funny enough, I was just thinking exactly that. The initial post has no merit of any sort, as both Clasie and Matt G have so eloquently explained. The OP of course, being another 'alter-ego' desperate to breed internet heat, has no interest in recognising his or her specific points have been soundly rejected. Just in perpetuating a silly non-argument in a bizarre palayesque charade.

Let him 'win' I say, we're Stoke 2, we have no 'plan', our 'identity' has gone, we're all heartbroken at another season in the Prem next year, we're not Barcelona anymore, sweeping everyone aside with fast flowing irresistible football, we're not getting 60% possession anymore (eh? really?), I'm so miserable, boo hoo, boo hoo.

The OP, for me, reads like something that's been typed up for a few weeks ready for posting and "only getting a draw at home to Sunderland" was the straw that, for some reason, broke the camel's back.

Bemoaning the apparent lack of a Plan A / Plan B (even though our approaches in the last two games have been like chalk and cheese) and singling out Dyer by name after showing at least glimpses of the player he used to be just seem a bit out of time.

Whenever someone uses the fact that, by being more pragmatic, we now seem able to get something out of games when we don't deserve it as some sort of bizarre criticism, my mind always goes back to the game under Rodgers against Newcastle at the Liberty where we had something like 80% possession and passed it about nicely all game but ended up losing 2-0. I wonder which set of fans went home happiest that night.

The way I see it is that we have had to adapt our style of play because teams have adapted to us. In simple terms, we don't get the time on the ball now that we used to which enabled us to dominate possession, even against the top teams. As much as being a criticism, I'd even take it as a bit of a compliment.

I post last night because I'm regular reader of this forum but after the game thee was no forum discussing any of the point I made, which is why I posted. I could have posted after Chelsea or Blackburn, it might have been easier to get support but I didnt.

About Dyer, I agree he had a better game yesterday but you can't honestly think he should start. His confidence has totally gone and for whatever reason I can't see it coming back.

You mentoioned that Newcastle game, I was happy after that match. We played football against a side who didn't want to play. We did something similar to Sourhampton last week and for me it just didn't really feel like a victory. Can someone answer me this please...... Is there anything more to football than results?

ooooh no,bobrien isn't --------- ------ is he

Boring ,frankly, is a word that svery very odd to use given wherer we are ,and where we re going which is anything but boring.

A cursory look at this site would tend to suggest that matters at our club are hardly boring.

Boring is what I felt as a 10 yr old boy being taken by me mam to see a Doris Day film.

There again, Doris ,with a whip, was not exactly boring ,come to think of it now.

Howard Keel was though

BORING would tend to suggest the author has a short attention span..

As for "heartbroken" - I dontwant to be the harbinger of bad news but ,trust me, if you re heartbroken over where we are right now, there is truly no hope for you in future life.

Incredible stuff the like of which I thought I d never see.

Is where we are in the premier league all that matters?

Because a poster can type a reply more eloquent than others, makes their point no more credible. At all.

There's plenty, as usual, slagging the OP off without making any relevant points whatsoever. It's always easy to attack a poster than put their points forward, Darran and Perchy i'm looking at you in particular. I'd much rather see a thread like this than poxy photo's of some pseudo important royal.

OP don't be put off by the boneheads on here, you have made your opinion known and tried to back it up without being a knob like others have done to you.

Who should have started ahead of Dyer yesterday? Or against Southampton?

Were you at Southampton? If that "didn't really feel like a victory" to you then I honestly suggest you start doing something else on the weekends.

Of course we'd all love to play free-flowing football every week - the problem is being able to do that while picking up enough points to stay in the PL.

You post constantly, and 99% of those are to have a go at posters, not to give a reasoned opinion, just sniping around the board with your silly comments. Give your opinion, instead of always looking to have a go at people.

I can understand why some posters are concerned. I am proud of the team when we are on top of our passing and pressing game and hope we will get back to this soon.
Unfortunately disruption to the team has meant we have been putting out a makeshift midfield and I think this has affected performances.
Yesterday was not great to watch but we had a team that came to defend and games like that are always going to be tough as we are playing most of our football in front of the oppo. Corky did not help matters by getting needlessly booked early on and therefore could not play his full game for fear of being sent off.
Ki is imperious, we have Leon to come back. Jon Jo is starting to show some discipline and Corky is yet to bed in. I am sure things will improve.
On the subject of Premier League football. I feel it essential for the club and the City that we retain our status regardless. I hope we continue to do it using a style that has been so successful.

Is this a serious question? Really?

None, apart from the Gomis 1-on-1 with their keeper, the Gomis chance from Barrow's cross, the Ki "offside" goal and Oliveira's shot late on. And that's just off the top of my head and excludes the goal itself.
[Post edited 8 Feb 2015 10:44]

You really consider all those "clear cut chances". A clear cut chance is when the shooter is favourite is score. Gomis 1-on1 was a 50-50 chance which Gomis lost, Ki's goal was offside so that doesn't count (remember offside goals DON'T count). Olvieira's late shot was just a snap shot and it would have been a goalkeeping error had it gone in. Gomis should have got on Barrow's cross, so ill count that and the goal we actually scored from Ki. So..... thats 2. 2 clear chances. Awesome?

Go through his post point by point mate. It's personal opinion garbage, using selective 'evidence' from the 'it's official' (it's not), right through to the 'we didn't deserve anything against XY and Z' ignoring all the times when we did deserve something and got nowt. His whole ethos harks back to some mythical golden age when we all came away laughing and skipping from the ground every time after dazzling displays of wonderful world beating shimmering football.

Its simply an anti Monk post dressed up as something else. I'm quite happy to roast Monk if he deserves it, but this is simply old wine in new bottles. Don't you think that we looked very much like the Swansea of Rodgers and Laudrup for much of that game yesterday? Mind you, I remember loads moaning then too...we've been 'found out', there's no plan B? Etc etc. THe OP was happy after the 0-2 Newcastle game was he? Disingenuous crap. No one I saw after that game was anything more than miserable and moaning 'we've been rumbled'.

Honestly, you're a sensible bloke, do you really think that OP has merit? I don't, and I couldn't give a toss who manages us, nor do I think that we can't improve. Do you really think we've 'lost our identity'? It picks out all the negatives and ignores the 'positives', in his world, like when we battered Totty, one of the form teams in the PL, and lost. People were moaning like f*ck then too.

Didn't you enjoy the game yesterday? I thought it was quite a good tactical battle where we had to try and better a very organised side that are draw specialists.
