Waterlogged pitch

Poll: DF in or out

Difficult to know what to make of this whole situation, but I don't think the word crisis would be too strong a term

It's obviously going to affect our chances of gaining any momentum in the relegation battle. It'll adversely affect how new recruits are integrated into the setup, and be a blow to their morale plus any further signings won't exactly be encouraged if they're aware of how poor our playing surface is

The only recourse, as suggested before, is an emergency relay. Perhaps cancel the Wigan fixture and just go for it, before it's too late

Rain, sleet, snow and frost have beaten the rain, frost and cannabis lamps, and we have found our game with Southend postponed.

From the official site, but It is nonsensical gobledegook.

Lets have a modicum of professionalism please.

During our last League One clusterf**k the pitch was brilliant. Best in the league. Does this huge mess up go back to pre-season last year when it was cutting up during the friendlies? The pitch has been shite all season. We had to replace it in January last year because it was dangerous - imagine growing a pitch in a Lancashire winter with only a few bulbs - it was a mess even after replacing it and we didn't replace it in the summer to fix that. Wasn't it always sand based but was relaid on soil. How the f**k didn't anyone see this disaster happening?

Doing so would indicate they want the problem solved. To carry on as we are will be one of the most disappointing decisions made in the modern era at Dale.

And there’s a lot of competition!

I feel for the Southend fans who have travelled.

Dale vs Southend was also called off in 2013 and I remember a group of their fans spending Saturday afternoon in the Baum. I remember that time there was a lot of snow but cannot recall what time the game was called off.

But although wet (and, importantly, forecast to be!) the last 24 hours have probably been the driest of a very wet week. The pitch could scarcely have been fit yesterday. Hindsight is always 20/20, of course, but in these circumstances, when fans are travelling such a long distance, perhaps decisions should be taken 24 hours in advance.

I wasn't (hence my stating that I was not disputing the decision) just simply pointing out that it wasn't a surprise knowing that he had called off the Bury game (can't be bothered to look for them right now but check out the pictures of the pitch on the day) when it looked much better than I expect ours does at the moment!

Fair enough, but I think it's just a coincidence it's the same official.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Sack the groundsman. It’s blatantly obvious that he is not up to it.

The pitch looks great, until you try and play football or rugby on it. I bet his garden looks fantastic until people come round for a BBQ.

We have had several consultants and specialist companies, each offering assurances over whatever works would give us regarding the pitch. Each and every time he’s ballsed it up as soon as these consultants leave him to it.

Now we have a beach because the automatic solution is to add sand, sand and more sand. What happened last time we had a beach? It got waterlogged every time we had rain. What has happened this time? We’ve had a postponement after rain, despite there being pitch covers.

We have grass growing lamps, we have frost covers and now we have rain covers. Basically we have more equipment than ever before to maintain and protect a pitch. We’ve got a beach.

It’s a complete joke. Unprofessionalism at its cringeworthy worst.

Maybe, but maybe the pitch would have done this whoever tended it

Cant blame the club, its entirely down to the ref to decide

... based on the evidence in front of him.

This is going to end up like the 2000/2001.
That backlog of home fixtures cost us a playoff place in my opinion

And now they’ve called off the Freddie Mercury tribute planned for after the game.

Could this day get any worse? The disappointment is almost tangible amongst Queen fans, nationwide.

If we don't take the time to relay the pitch now I won't be going to another game this season home or away. Why should I be arsed if the club aren't?

I like to give the club the benefit of the doubt wherever I can but this is the final straw. I know it's been a harsh week in terms of the rain but I've had farts wetter than this mornings weather. It's an absolute disgrace that the decision has been left so close to kick off

His microphone is damaged beyond repair but it's been covered in 100m of tarpaulin. A request will go out for his legion of fans to turn up and remove the tarpaulin in the vain hope that the microphone might work again.

Alternatively, he could just say sorry and will be buying a new one.
