Been a harsh critic (deservedly so in my opinion) but credit where it’s due - good game today

Put himself about and won a few tackles but also some really intelligent passes and took up good positions when out of possession

Fair play

Close to MoM but that’s Saito for me

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Clearances 0
Blocked shots 1
Recoveries 4
Ground duels (won) 5 (3)
Aerial duels (won) 2 (2)

Posted the half-time stats, and here are the full-time stats.
Won one interception, one tackle, two headers, three ground duels (whatever they are).

They're poor stats.

Accurate passes 40/53 (75%)
Passes in opposition half (acc.) 25/33 (76%)
Passes in own half (acc.) 15/20 (75%)
Long balls (accurate) 3/7 (43%)

These are poor stats, too - 75% passing is not good.

But what I liked about him today was his energy. He was shadowing, facing up.

And also his confidence, his ambition. That cross for Varane's goal? Touch, swivel, stroke, arc, poetry, beauty.

He was a figure of fun here this time last year.
He’s added the physicality which was missing from his game .
First name on team sheet now.

It was his cross field pass to Chair 30 seconds before the 1st goal that started the whole move. That and the cross for the goal were worth the ticket price. Best footballer in the team.

Being interested to see Varanes stats for comparison.

Accurate crosses nil? Apart from the assist for the first goal!?

They're Varane's stats, Eastside.

What i would say Brian with your comment on Madsens stats being poor all game.

This is where stats on their own, can be misleading.

Last season in many games, he could have had a much better pass completion percentage, but if they are all one yard passes backwards that then puts your teammate under pressure and we lose possession consequently could easily mean pass completion stats are meaningless.

He definitely slows the game down and considers one if he can play a more definitive pass forward or even thinking thay his pass sideways.or out wide at the time he plays it then enables that player to pass immediately forward placing the wide man with a run down the flanks.

Tackles made percentages also can be misleading likewise. The very fact he attempts many more can harry players into mistakes even if his particular tackle does not immediately win the ball back.

He is like a new signing this season. And i know i am one of only a few that wait for improvements and hope more than most but tbh with Madsen, i felt he had lost all confidence and like Celar i had felt he was too fragile for the championship.

He is not only a totally unrecognisable player but also in terms of his character. Almost Wilkins esque at times at a lower level. Thoughtful, has time, always plays the right ball and can make the important tackles also.

An incredible turnaround. Think every Rangers fan has been impressed.

Struggling to remember over the years of any player that has improved out of all recognition in one season to the next as Madsen has somehow managed.

Thanks Brian. You may guess how I wasn't quite following.

Over the last couple of games Madsen hasn't been at his best, by what strikes me is no one thinks he's a weak link. Today he got stuck in on more than one occasion, didn't shirk, covered gaps in defence and closed players down. I think he's getting less time on the ball so his passing isn't quite so good, but it's still better than anyone else in the team. He is more likely to find a creative forward pass and does his fair share in defence.
He no longer stands out, but is a fully functioning member of the team, with a touch of class.

absolutely - although he had a bit of time, that was a magnificent ball across the field. Don't know the stats but it seemed to me that most of his passes were forward today - imagine saying that this time last year! His redemption arc is great to see - looks like he belongs in that midfield now

Totally agree, he has improved beyond recognition of last season's player. I was saying before the game that I liked that he had improved his physical performance but wanted to see him get a few assists too. And he did that yesterday. That pass to Chair was great and then his cross to Varane to complete the move was the perfect ending. Only disappointment was his 2nd half shot lacked the power to get a rebound to create another chance.
