Ditto, I think Rodney plays by instinct rather than plan ... he is OK when he gets a bit of space but does not seem to have created a meaningful partnership with Mani so is hardly ever quite where he needs to be for a knock down or flick on..its frustrating to say the least. The comparison with Hendo is stark in that Hendo has the knack of being around at just the right time and place either to score or help Mani to score...it would be interesting to see some deeper stats on partnerships ...apparently (google) Hendo is averaging just under 100 minutes on the pitch per goal (8) and 4 assists, and Rodney is at 344 minutes for 8 goals and 8 assists. Mani is our only forward in the top 25 goalscorers... Scunthorpe have 3 players , Southend have 2, Borehamwood have 4, Carlisle have 3, FGR have 1, York have 3... |  | | |

Watching the York game back we rode our luck really, they could have easily scored two or three goal on another day. I'm expecting a more offensive line up next week, we're at home in the last chance saloon and we need to go out and stamp our authority on the game. We've earned the home advantage, let's play tlike the home team. I spoke to two nuetrals yesterday who watched the York game, they offered their sympathy but both said that Rochdsle didn't look like they wanted to score in a game they had to win. | | | |

Agree, but Sunday is not a normal league game, it is one of two potential cup finals, so the team selection needs to be spot on.
I can understand selecting Moss on Saturday to help nullify York attacking potential and it worked to an extent, but at the same it also impacted on our own attacks. I thought Hannant was poor on Saturday, so do you keep Moss in the team and replace Hannant with either Barlow or Pettit. So allowing Moss to keep the defensive element in the team.
There have been criticism of Rodney and at times it is justified, but if he is used with Mani in a central role, he can be effective with his size and creating opportunities for Mani, but far to often he drifts into a wide role, leaving Mani isolated. I really think that was the plan though. York didn't need to score and the longer it stayed 0-0 the better chance we had. Even playing defensive we gave them enough chances to win the game quite comfortably so imagine if we'd gone gung ho. It was almost the perfect execution.
I really don't know how we'll react on Sunday. We will soon find out if it has psychologically ruined them. They just need to accept the best team in league has finished 1st. We gave them a hell of a fight and a massive shock on Saturday but they came through it because they are the best. We are better than the rest - we've proved that over 46 games. Let's get to Wembley and finish this season off in style with the promotion we deserve. | |

Agree that Rodney's impact isn't being utilised but as others have said it's about the formation - if he's also more central there's no pressing support for the relative wing back; you'd need 3 in midfield etc and this team has never played that. | |

Nobody is talking about Whatmuff and how he could have won the game for us...yes, his shot-stopping was exemplary and kept us in the game and that is his real strength. But his kicking is woeful !!! He kicked the ball out to touch a few times therefore wasting time and possible opportunities to test York. But even worse is his kicking to Mani. He often puts too much force on the ball and it goes straight to their keeper. Simples...put less force onto the ball and get it to land a few feet before Mani not a few feet beyond him. OR start the kick 5 feet further back. This has been going on all season. Why the management team have not picked up on it only heaven knows. In terms of kicking the ball, what on earth is Lillis doing in training with him??
I would have thought this would be the easiest part of being a goalkeeper but our top keeper is showing us it is very difficult to get right.
Just what could happen if he got it right ?
Our chances of scoring against York were few but in my opinion Whatmuff could have added vital chances if only he could have perfected his long kicks.
Oh, and again, with chances to score being very low, why does Mani push his man in the box and our vital chance comes to nothing ????

Or AN other, Rodney was an absolute passenger the whole time he was on the pitch, cant remember him once either feeding Mani or feeding off his flick ons that continually went to waste, a very frustrating player who does have all the attributes to be an absolute menace at this level, doesnt show it anywhere near enough | | | |

I'd tend to agree, starting with Henderson reduces our attacking prowess in the most important phase of the game. At his age it also increases the chance of him picking up a injury, i prefer to see him come on for the last half hour.
We've had three season defining games in the last twelve months..Spennymoor, Southend, York and we've had all of them in the grasp of our hands but failed to get over the line. We really should have won all three. Sunday will be opportunity number four and it's now getting to the time where we really need to start winning one of these. It's not down to bad luck or anything else, four opportunities all in our own stadium, you cant ask for anymore than that. It's time the players delivered now, not just for us but also for themselves. Whenever we rip up the plan and go off cuff we look a different team and score goals, lets see a bit of that on Sunday and see how many goals we can rack up. | | | |

Olly probably had the most touches of both teams on Saturday. He was helluva busy and may have got caught in the intensity. His distribution was wanting at times and wondering outside his area may have cost us more dearly. He still did his bit and more.
Agree that this long kicking can be so frustrating going straight back to Male whose own distribution was good.
