Shrewsbury pressed us more before the early substitution. After that they were petrified of our fast attacks down the left and only their striker (occasionally +1) did, which probably also contributed to the space left on the right and mistake that led to our 2nd.
A world away from we've seen so far. Excellent performance tonight and hopefully a corner turned with the confidence that will give the team. [Post edited 1 Sep 22:17]

So much better all round tonight. Our left hand side caused them no end of problems in the first half, and we were deservedly two up before half time. They could have pulled a goal back a couple of times before we broke and scored the third.
A welcome confidence boost throughout the whole club.

One way or another, by accident or design, IW discovered a potent left wing threat. So nice to see some potent attacking and the balls into the box rejuvenated Mani D too.
Great effort from everyone. We pay to see grit, desire and determination and got them.
Moss and Wilson looked so assured but I’d like to see how they fare against an Akinde type old school roughhouse.
One swallow doesn’t make a summer but I’m more than happy with the performance.

An enjoyable game from Dale for the first time since Watson took charge. Granted, The Shrews weren't great but Dale were faster and more attacking. Good subs too. Danny Moss was exceptional.

The players have woken up to the commitment needed at this level... you have to earn the right to play football by doing the hard yards for 90 minuted and the 11 lads on the pitch and the substitutes became a team in front of our eyes....Shrews weren't great but you can only play whats in front of you, and we did. Much improved performance although difficult to know how much it means against a Shrews team who didn’t look great, but with better finishing could easily have had a couple themselves. It’s crucial we keep the momentum going and pick up another win on Saturday against another team that have started off the season poor. If we do that, we give ourselves a much better chance when we start to face the tougher opposition.
Even if EEL is fully fit I’d want Watson to be brave and keep him on the bench. Would like to see that first half 11 once EEL left as the team to start on Saturday.
Well done to Watson who has faced plenty of criticism from me this week - now we’ve seen what his teams can do. But that brings its own pressure as the fans might expect to see performances like that every game. If we do, then we’ll be more than fine this season. For the first time this season I have some hope, and a reason to believe Watson might be the man for us. Keep it going. |  | | |

Much better and gives the manager some breathing space. 3 well taken goals and a clean sheet, you can't argue with that. Tonight demonstrated that we have signed some quality, albeit I can't help but feel the recruitment has been somewhat disjointed. I still fear for us, as an overall defensive unit, Shrews looked poor and still carved us open more than once. Plenty of positives and plenty still to work on as would be fair to expect at this stage of the season. | | | |

As an attacking unit we were much better tonight, we were quicker, created more chances whilst still not getting our No.9 into the game as much as we would like. Defensively I still think we were a bit shaky and a better team might have punished that.
Fair play to the starting XI and the subs, they showed more commitment than the previous starting XIs have so far this season, whether that's to do with more players that Watson has brought in playing, I'm not sure.
Adeeko was MoM for me, he seemed to be everywhere and might be the midfielder we've been crying out for. | | | |

A big call out too, to Francis
He's our man in midfield now, got us ticking. Having Adeeko buzzing alongside helps and what i saw was players freed up to express themselves; Adeeko sneaking into the box to score being one example
I'm really not getting carried away, too long in the tooth for that
But, put Hayes on the right, maybe Jenkins too, and we'll have a threat from both wings. And yeah, Mani D will thrive on that. The enthusiasm in his legs and touch was visible [Post edited 1 Sep 23:07]

Not got much press on here tonight but I thought Baba Adeeko was excellent tonight. He will be a key player for us moving forward. Taylor was another signing who impressed. The knew SAJ? Honourable mentions to Hannett, Moss and Brown who is full of bustle. Ramming appeared to be transformed compared to the Newport game, but so were the whole back line.
Watson was on a knife edge tonight so credit where it’s due, he and his team rallied against all the negatives that have been swirling around them. Momentum is key now.
My only comment of any doubt was IW does like to make late subs. I thought that the game was crying out for Gilmour with 15 minutes left, probably in place of Francis who got tired. Minor stuff compared to the significance of the night.

Very glad I came up for that.
My verdict is as follows.
Ramming - still looks nervous, but started to show more confidence, a clean sheet will do him the world of good.
Ebanks - baffled when he went off with the choice of substitution, but the two positives are Taylor and Duberry were excellent and we passed it out better from the back.
Wilson - I like the lad, he reads the game well and his passing started to improve as the game went on (great partnership with Moss)
TAR - the only slight negative for me was that he got too easily out muscled
Moss - phenomenal. Did well as left back but a colossus at Centre half
Francis - bossed the game with his link up play
Adeeko - like Moss a colossus in midfield, hardly put a foot wrong and a brilliant finish
Hannant - him and TAR didn't link up too well but and awesome finish for his goal
Taylor - his confidence and overall play made him another colossus
Brown - played much closer to Mani and deserved a goal for the energy he put in
Mani - his link up play was better as he had someone near him. He won't score as many goals as last season but was a handful and a great target man.
Duberry - him and Taylor really terrified the Shrewsbury right hand side, another awesome display
Smith - cameo appearance and a goal of the season contender
Hendo and Gilmour - didn't have enough time to do anything
Watson's team today was perfect against a very poor Shrewsbury team. We played at a higher tempo and tenacity. There was much less tippy tappy football at the back a d a greater urgency. |  |
