View from an Imp who goes to every game home and away (pre-2020 anyway)

After that win at Plymouth I’m expecting a tough game.  We’ve not been playing well recently — Wigan on Tuesday being a prime example — but we’re grinding out results which is a positive sign.  We’ve been creating lots of chances but not taking them — one day someone in our league will get a good pasting just like Forest Green in the cup.  Grant is definitely our main man and Montsma at the back has not only been superb defensively but chipped in with a number of goals too.  Not bad for a young defender and part-time male model signed from the Dutch second division!   I’ll be happy with a point tomorrow and another at home to Sunderland next Saturday.  The three games after that are key for me.  Shrewsbury, Northampton and Burton in the run up to Xmas and on Boxing Day.  I think we need 7 points from those to set us up for the biggie at Hull.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

Montsma is a Craig Dawson-like free-scoring centre-back. I know this is wishful thinking but please let’s try and be a bit more secure from set pieces today.

Let's hope he plays like Nial Canavan did on Tuesday....he didn't let us down.

I think this will be a tough one. I’d be happy with a point given they’re so high in the table. Aside from our games against them I kindve hope they go up. Another smaller side in the league doing really well in recent years. It’s not that long ago they were pulling in similar poor crowds to us, would now get 8/9k each game if allowed. Fair play to them.

Beesley misses out due to concussion rule. Dooley over Baah? Based on Tuesday, you would have to say yes.

Gutted as I'm about to go into a meeting & will miss most of the game. I wouldn't mind, but I'm the one who booked the meeting FFS!! Not used to working Saturdays and completely slipped my mind

I thought we defended them well on Tuesday, especially as Reeves was their only threat with an excellent delivery. Big lummox Nouble barely got a sniff.

Still no sub keeper...

Not listened to any of the interviews since Tuesday - any news on that?

Don't recall BBM being asked why there was no substitute keeper.

Thanks James

It remains a mystery then, not down to Chalton's education

Thought Lincoln were good value for their lead, just that bit more quality in passing and movement

How often do you actually have to sub a keeper?
When you can use five substitutes per game it gives more options if all those on the bench are outfield players.

Agree with that. Lincoln are playing well and we’re matching them. Goal aside, we’ve had a few half-chances each.

Who does the match stats for us? Is it a Dale employee or an external figure? They were well off in our last home match and they’re similarly wrong today. How can we have had zero shots on target when Morley’s (from the free kick) and Humphrys’ were patently on target?

On the contrary, having more subs available makes it even more risky not having a regular keeper on the bench

It had been all middle third and no real end product before Lincoln produced the only bit of decent play in the final third. We need to get the forwards on the ball a bit more. Newby has been a bit of a passenger in the more central role. I would bring on Baah pretty early in the second half if we don't score.

Proper risky not having a GK to call on.....if Lunch gets crocked who will we use?

Not BigJim, he's too far too cool.

At least our bench is looking a bit more threatening these days.

They're done by an external figure.

If you can't perm those five from the six outfield players usually on the bench, there's something wrong.

They look a very well organised team, and whilst it's been close, they have shaded it so far mainly in midfield .I'm afraid (probably out of respect for their lofty league position) that Morley is playing 15 yards deeper than he did when so effective at Plymouth, and Keohane's passing is not good enough so far. I'd like to see Dooley and Newby really run at them for 10 minutes or so at the start of the second half... if it isn't working, then change either of them for Baah.

Roberts once again a class above, although they have a very useful CH as well.
