No, I wasn't. Never saw his Rangers team play, LB.

I just like him.

Because I don't think that is the general consensus, certainly in other corners of the QPR internet.

I thought the general consensus was that he did a decent job under difficult conditions and was forced out the club by the upper management. Why would his reception be mixed?

I think that would be the feeling for most of us. People who have disappeared down rabbit holes, who knows?

Kept us up when we had looked royally Donald Ducked. So I think a small clap is reasonable, but no offer of undying love.

I'm liking Julien, has a very quirky personality and a good way with words. He's had us playing more attractive and winning football with a few blips. Most importantly, he arrested the recent slide quickly when we've had a habit of getting in spirals of loosing confidence and form.

So I'm a tart and have quickly moved on.

I think he deserves a warm welcome - Performed a miracle keeping us up in the first year. Slightly disappointing second year but he didn't have the squad we now have.

Di Canio's football was never dull. It was real gung ho stuff that was entertaining if not always effective. We wanted him to stay but he had to leave for personal reasons never fully explained.

I miss Marti, like I still miss Warbs. Both men of integrity. Set a professional standard from the off and didn't accept anything less. Those are the sort of people you want managing and coaching a team.

No one besides who were involved fully know what happened in Marti gardening leave so for me his character stays intact. Nourry certainly hasn't improved in this area of club management.

Marti inherited an absolute shit show when he arrived and steered it clear which was an absolute miracle.

If I was at LR on sat I'd definitely applaud. I've very much warmed to JS now but it took a while cause I was so QPR'd that we again messed an opportunity to go further with a good manager at the helm.

But....... This game means much more than it normally would. JS needs to be on his A game and I truly hope we put in a decent performance and a win to show we are moving in the right direction.

Poll: Do you think this current QPR team has got what is takes to go up this year?

I think with De Canio it came down to moving back to Italy to keep his marriage together, that's certainly the story I've heard most over the years.

Shame though, I really liked him and the football we played with him, it was fun. We had some cracking wins in the second half of the season once the money flowed and we had a better squad (3-0 v Bristol City, 3-0 v Stoke both springing to mind...)

I think looking back there was certainly blame on both sides for how he left and that's created a split in the fansbase which I don't see healing for a while.

On the one hand you had Marti making a power play to get more control, speaking in the press that he might leave if certain things don't happen, he basically wanted more control of the medical side and a bigger say on signing. I imagine given the timing of that story he hoped for a big reaction from QPR fans to want him to stay but we lost 5-0 and it was a bit of a damp squib.

His agent then tried the old speak to West Brom leak which they probably thought would push things more to the club giving in but Nourry and Hoos saw that as an opportunity to put him on gardening leave, take control of the narrative and retain their control.

Ultimately Marti was never going to get what he wanted and to be honest that's probably the right way to go as I don't think a manager should have that much power at a club but it was heavily driven by ego on both sides to control that narrative of the CEO or manager is the bad guy when really they should have sat down shook hands and gone their separate ways. It didn't have to get as ugly or divisive as it did.
We could have still put a clause in his pay off that we get that back and more if he gets another championship job in the next 12 months which is how it ended up anyway

I hope both sides have learnt from it, QPR need to get a lot better at how they deal with people leaving the club and the last few months has shown that hasn't really changed from Marti to Nardi to Furlong.
I think Marti will look back and realise his reputation took a hit with how it ended and I doubt he wanted to leave with a number of people calling him a snake and hating his guts.

Just a sad end to what had been a very good spell that laid some foundations for us to push on in the next few years.

Marti steered us away from relegation drama once, then mired us in back in it, before digging us out a second time. The football was sometimes exciting, sometimes turgid. In the ultimately opaque 'did he fall (on his sword) or was he pushed' saga surrounding his decidedly messy departure, I sit resolutely on the fence. All in all, therefore, my level of equivocation toward him is roughly similar to the nightporter's discussion of drink in Macbeth. (Not sure how to manifest this as a punter. Maybe dutiful applause while shaking my head?)

Notwithstanding his squeamish performance at his unveiling alongside Nourry, I don't find Julie 'quirky' - if anything, I find him mostly cliched and witless - but then I dislike/distrust all managers, allegedly. I suppose if it's wit you want, you go to Oscar Wilde.

Probably one for the best/worst football threads. But yeah De Canio's football was great, shame he didn't stay longer.

Paulo Sousa though was dreadful. Negative attritional stuff. Down there with the worst we've had I reckon.

On a professional point of pride surrounding Romance language patronymics, our ex-manager's name was actually DE Canio (older, Latinate form) - not to be confused with DI Canio (modern Italian vernacular, as in the brilliant fascist lunatic who used to play for West Ham). They're distinct surnames, not interchangeable particles.

I don't think that statement is far from the truth. Some of the football under MC was God awful and unwatchable, but the caveat was he didn't have the players.

It'll be interesting to see how Leicester play, from what little I have seen of them they have the same issues we had last season. Very slow buildup play and quite turgid.

Fingers crossed, we batter them.

Your 2nd para implies our playing 'style' under Marti might have had at least as much to do with the manager as the squad.

Meanwhile, some of our performances of late (the ones I'm hanging my magic hat on as a fan at least) are raising my aspirations/expectations for the Leicester game if Julie's recent words about having 'ambition' are not to sound like hot air.

Rs 1, Foxes 1, and I won't be taking it.
