Refwatch - Altrincham v Rochdale on 20:34 - Dec 19 by _Windydale

Dale playing with discipline, closing down a tentative Altrincham. No press from them which suits us.
Our constant harassing without the ball is giving us a big advantage. Doing really well without our missing players. The players seem to be enjoying their football.

Waller the left back debutant has done nothing wrong keeping it simple and confident on the ball.
Solid first half and now 3 points clear.

This is what i was referring to earlier about time on the training ground working for the squad as a whole

That's the whole point, and we're seeing it in action

Kudos to McNulty, Taylor, Done and Hendo

Waller looking like a clone of Beckwith.
Mani who?

If Waller's another from the MRKT database it's proving to be a very useful addition to our recruitment tools. Always feel relatively relaxed these days when a player goes on the long term injury list as we keep seeming able to quickly replace with similar quality, gratefully funded of course by our very generous owners.

..and i think i with a bigger squad this year, regulars on the teamsheet are putting in the work on matchday to keep there place. I'm happy McNulty isn't squad rotating for the sake of keeping players happy.

Groome, some great saves tonight.

Well done Jim McNulty. A squad now feeling injuries to key players but still producing performances and results like that. Still a long way to go but, at this stage, full plaudits to the head coach.

The difference between this season and last is clear: the coaching team he's built around him

Plaudits to McNulty for that, and the result is there for all to see tonight

Very good performance by all

Thought Ebanks was outstanding ..what he lacks in speed is more than made up with his awareness of danger.

A couple of excellent stops by Broome when Alty threatened.

The quality of the 2nd and 3rd goals was a joy to see.

Hope Gilmour is ok

Players ion good form. Also think that Tobi has a lot more to offer.
Just need to keep our heads over this period. Still feel that York are our most dangerous rivals.
Hope that FGR dop points tomorrow.

Another great win
Top at Christmas
If anyone had offered us 16 wins from our first 20 League games,we would have slapped their hand off ,and probably thought they had lost the plot .

Of course they’ll have added extra, that experience has to help. It’s all been added to season on season with tonight’s performance another illustration of how well the players know our system and how they fit within it. The coaching staff have obviously bought into that on arrival too.

At no stage do we have players who don’t know where they’re supposed to be and what their role is. Gilmour said how long it took him to get used to it, when you think how long he’s been here it shows how patience and commitment to a plan by the club is paying off.

I still think top three is the aim with injuries and other club’s form (mainly York) dictating our final position.

I sincerely hope that the coaching team don't aim for anything other than our own form dictating our final position

Actually, it's more than a hope, it's based on the way in which those around McNulty have gone about their careers, and why i give credit to McNulty for recruiting them

It’s the way McNulty has as well being fair. He played above the level many would have expected of him.

Our own form will dictate it, but we are well above par at the moment and there will be the odd blip. It’ll depend if York have similar. As mentioned the other week after Carlisle dared to lose at home, their fans overreacted. Fans have a part to play if that happens to us.

Keeping calm in adversity has won us games this season. Even tonight when Alty were on top after half time. Same will apply after the odd defeat.

Absolutely, and why it's important not to overreact to individual games. The main thing is Daleys celebrating tonight, ahead of Christmas

I'll wish one and all a good one, even those with jerky knees

EEL was immense and Broome excellent. What stood out was the intensity, energy and fitness levels especially in the first half, gave us the platform to show we were the better team. Then stood up well to 2nd half pressure and scored with oiur first attack of the half. Brilliant performance and clinical finishes.

Tremendous win.

Another clean sheet, Alti certainly challenged us second half until the quick break goal.

Fine debut from Waller, his side with Galvin seemed to be the only wing Alti wanted to try attacking down, both stood firm.

Keeper made a great save early on in second half, that was critical to the bigger picture.

Squad depth is there for all to see with calibre of subs used.

If we assume that 100 pts will get close to the title all the other teams will need to improve their points per game over the second half of the season to reach that target, where we have some advantage with more games left and already more points on the board. It’s definitely our form with will dictate where we finish.

Rochdale (2.45) 1.96 pts per game to get 100
Forrest green (2.09) 2.25 pts per game
Carlisle (2.09) 2.25 pts per game
York (2.14) 2.2 pts per game
Boreham Wood (2.1) 2.24 pts per game

(Current points per game in brackets)

With a favourable run of fixtures in dec and jan If we continue winning that’s really going to pile the pressure on the others not to drop points.

I agree that York are the ones likely to challenge us as there the team whose form is improving and could post a higher points total But we have an opportunity to make this amazing start to the season count come May

Thought their player ran into EEL (think it was him) and made a meal of it - good decision
