A extra couple of days rest now on our opponents leading into the festive fixtures, that's another bonus from last night. One noticeable thing in our play this season is the way our forwards now put a high press on our opponents, we suffocate them in their own half. In the second half of games we then refuel that tactic by use of our substitutes and bring on more fresh energy. So we defend from the front, impose our game on our opponents and press them at all times. We now have the squad to carry that on, it's the way to get out of this league and it's how Barnet did it. I think that's something McNulty, Done and Taylor have identified and as the season is progressing we are getting better and better at implementing it. It takes hard work and graft from everybody on the pitch but it looks like they've all bought into the plan.

It was interesting to see Hendo pressing like mad too even at his ripe old age, its like hes not missed a game all season how he just slotted in, credit to everyone as that result was enormous and as Jim eluded to post match there would have been good reason with the injuries, new lads coming in etc why things could have looked disjointed, a superb performance all things considered

Another notable thing was how well we played on a fantastic pitch.
It does underpin our style of play and hopefully the new pitch will bring same benefit.
Yes the pitch was impeccable considering all the rain we've had all week. I think Man Utd still use their stadium for youth/women's games so they could have contributed to them having such a great playing surface.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
I thought it was a penalty but we'll take that decision.
Our first half onslaught could have seen us easily leading 4 or 5 nil at half time, it really was a dominant display.
We weathered Alty's pressure really at the start of the second half with EEL putting in another rolls Royce of a display.
I still say that it's a race to 100 points this season and we are pretty much half way there with less than half of our games played, there's still a long way to go and February is going to be a real test of this squad but all you can is keep doing what we are doing and that is putting another 3 points on the board after each game.

Hendo would have been proud of that McBride finish and it was nice to see the latter mention this in his interview afterwards.
The team at Altrincham revealed the depth and strength of the squad, which is due to McNulty's recruitmemt, but crucially to the support of the Ogden family.
Despite missing Whatmuff, Beckwith, Barlow, Allarakhia, Dieseruvwe, and with Mancini, Hosannah, Humbles, Hogan and Myles also not in the team last night, I am unsure if some of these are injured or unwell or just not selected. We still managed to put out a strong team, with people like Pettit, Rodney, Smith, Burger, Moss, Tutonda and Amantchi on the bench, many who would get into the starting eleven of many teams.
So the result was excellent, I must admit I was worried that it could be a banana skin type of a game with so many missing, but credit to the team for the performance.

The players on the substitutes bench and the introduction of them during the game is probably just as important as those who start. I think the modern managerial speak for it is 'starters and finishers'. It still boils down to the quality and depth of your squad and we aren't lacking in that respect due to good recruitment and the financial backing from our owners.

Last night was probably the best example of that so far. Altrincham were undoubtedly on top after half time, though we were still in control and defending well, then the subs came on and took it up a level and we scored again. Pettit is a great player and obviously whilst hoping Gilmour is fine, I’d give him a rest at Morecambe and play East and Pettit together.
There’s a post from this site on Twitter showing our season form - after every defeat we’ve immediately gone on a good run again. 6 wins after losing at Brackley, 10 points in four games after Halifax, 4 wins on the bounce since we lost at York (6 including two cup matches).
There’s a winning mentality across the whole squad.

This was a statement win. Our opponents in this league would have known we fielded arguably only five of our starters, with some our normal finishers getting a start But such is the desire and efforts it made no difference. The spirit in this squad is excellent. I would have taken a draw when I saw the team sheet but that was as dominant in the first half as we have been for ages. A goal for Hendo would have made it a “Carlsberg” night. Momentum is so important in this game , and just when there could have been an air of that being stifled, we reinforce that momentum. Is it getting to the stage where the only thing that can stop us is ourselves? The table suggests it is and I am a believer. All credit to the club and of course the travelling fans. February will be tough but so is this team. UTD

We are also well versed in the dark arts now so can't complain when other clubs use them. Players going down to stop the game and the opponents momentum. Players running over to the dugout to receive instruction and break up the flow of the game. Goalkeepers suddenly sitting down and the physio being called on. All things that we didnt do very well last season but use to our advantage now. I think the recruitment of Done and Taylor has really benefitted McNulty this season, it must have taken a lot of pressure and work off him.

February is tough but i think playing tough games one after another will make us battle hardened and could work in our favour. It's tough for all our rival opponents also and they all have to play each other. Some of their fixtures will be at the end of March and April, when the pressure to win games is at it's highest.

Still think we need somebody upfront to supplement Mani and Rodney. Our one striker to start yesterday was Hendo, who looked a trifle overweight to me, and is he really a striker or a superstar number 10? Ditto Tyler Smith.
The back 3 and the keeper were brilliant. The captain was immense. Alty had 9 corners without scoring! How things have changed.

It was Henderson’s best performance of the season. There were concerns about how much he could contribute, but he looked sharp and his movement was very good.
He looked as fit as ever and he’s been better as a no.9 for the last year, as seen at the back end of last season.
Would expect someone will replace Amantchi in January and depending on how long Mani is out, possibly another.

Hendo has hardly played this season and i think he looks overweight, he's certainly not as fit as ever. Understandable that he's not match fit though, he's also 41 years old. He's a Dale legend and up there with Gary Jones as a club icon but i think you've over egged the pudding a bit there. You can tell by watching Hendo in the highlights he's carrying some timber. I'll be surprised if he starts at Morecambe. He's the fifth choice forward behind Mani, Rodney, Smith, Amantchi. When you look at team selection and appearances and starts that's how McNulty also views him. He's been fantastic for us but we now have better options.

Didn’t notice his weight at all, just don’t think he’d have started if he wasn’t match fit. The only thing that stood out was his movement and how much he contributed with the way we put pressure on opposition defences as has been noted earlier in the thread.
Would argue that right now with Mani out injured he was McNulty’s choice at centre forward as others (Rodney and Smith) don’t really play than role of someone who can be a focal point and Amantchi doesn’t appear to be a starting option for whatever reason. Whether that changes at Morecambe is something we’ll have to see, but Henderson definitely responded well last night to thoughts he isn’t really an option now. My own thoughts included!
He certainly wouldn’t be someone I’d use in the other two forward roles not though. He’s exclusively a central striker at this stage.

Just looking at how infrequent his appearances have been this season in preference to others on the bench, even in the National and FA Trophy competitions. Most fans were surprised to see him in the starting eleven last night.

Yeah, don’t think many would have predicted he’d start in the league, though that training video did hint that he might be!
His lack of involvement for me goes back to only really being an option in that one position now and with Dieseruvwe he hasn’t been needed until now. That’s probably why he started last week in the Trophy too.
The others all play the wider forward roles, not sure Henderson can do that effectively anymore, his game has changed. We probably all hoped Amantchi would step in but that probably hasn’t worked out as everyone hoped.

No, Amantchi hasn't done enough unfortunately. Like you, i think we'll see one or two forwards come in over the next two or three weeks. Mani will take some replacing, his position is key to how we play and he occupies more than one defender. Hopefully he's back before the February fixtures.
