Would fate have it any other way?

Kudos to any Southend fans making the trip up for the game. Aside from knocking us out of the playoffs and basically being French, I’ve developed a liking for their teams ability to mix it with the best and be inexplicably average against lesser teams.

Heavy rain until about 1pm and then light rain easing off by kick off. A perfect road test for our new pitch and the drainage.

Nah, I'll be a DAZN viewer for this one. I agree with you on the game front, but I doubt there will to more than a couple of hundred making the trip tonight.

That’s what we were thinking too.

Burger back after dropping out of the squad, Barlow and McBride miss out.

Mani D and Manny D both on the bench

May see them deployed together later in the game, depending on circumstances

I’d hope not as it might mean we’re losing! Real quality available to come on though.

Hosannah in from nowhere is the real standout. Proof that there’s a plan to utilise everyone.

Not necessarily, could be a case of just hold the ball upfield

Could see that coming once we decided to push up, leaving a huge gap to run into

...but great response

Southend content to let us have it at the back. Lots of good approach play but a poor bit of defending for their goal before Gordon’s equaliser.

Very different game to previous against the same opposition. They look like they’d take a point within minutes of kick off.

We’ve defended free kicks like that all season. Not sure what Whatmuff was doing.

To be fair it was Whatmuff's easy ball to claim but he hesitated and that was that. Great response though. Hopefully our bench wins this for us.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Great strike from Gordon. Doubt our cb shooting on his left foot from outside the box was part of the game plan pre-match but credit to Gordon for having a go when the opportunity presented itself and exactly what was needed. Think we might need another moment of magic against a Southend team that are set up very well to stop us. GSM is too good for this level.

Poor goal to give away. Great goal by Gordon. Mani D will give us a focal point when he comes on. Will Jim be brave enough to bring on Taz for Moss?

Been impressed with Burger. Very busy and looked for the ball in space.

As soon as their goal went in we noticeably upped the pace and had them unsettled. We need to try and continue playing with that intensity for the rest of the game who ever comes on in the second period. Slow build up wont win it for us they are happy to defend it out.

Not with that degree of naivety

Whatmuff was left stranded

Been a high line every week. He seemed to make the wrong choice, would need to see again.

What a win though. Southend had more of the ball second half without ever testing the keeper. The tactics throughout and subsequent subs won us that game.
