| January transfer rumours on 16:52 - Dec 27 by Ned_Kennedys | He’s a 22 year old England Under 21 international who will be on relatively low wages compared to a lot of their first team squad so why would they accept anything less than what they paid for him (approx £3m). Wishful thinking that they’ll be glad to offload him for much less. |
I'm more inclined to agree with LBlock on this one. Players value depreciate when they are in poor form or not in favour. The original 3m is only relevant if they kick on. However the sell on clause owed to his previous club WILL be a factor when negotiating his fee
| January transfer rumours on 17:11 - Dec 27 with 1213 views | derbyhoop | It's January. Where's the value in signings? Fine, if we can get something better than we currently have. It's not as if we are desperate to strengthen, now. You can add Chair, Vale, Kolli and JCS to the 20 from Boxing Day, so the squad is there. Needs somebody outstanding, like another Eze. | |

| January transfer rumours on 12:52 - Dec 27 by Wilkinswatercarrier | My son and I had the same conversation about 10 minutes in. We looked unbalanced and our left side was never a threat going forward. Saito got a lot of grief on here yesterday, but he was rarely played through. Smyth made little difference. Ronnie Edwards not even in the Southampton matchday squad. Could it be? |
Agreed, its no coincidence that Saito had one of his best games in a while last week when JCS was playing, as soon as JCS went off so did our performance. And PH, I agree with you, it is a case of 'when fit' but I really believe that with all his injuries, they are adopting the approach of, 'when in doubt, pull him out' rather than take unnecessary risks again

I don't want to be horribly cruel to a kid, and maybe I'll be wrong and he'll come good, but if you're 20 years old and you're on loan at Tonbridge Angels you're pretty much done.

Loan destinations are so important too. I complain about us not sending enough lads on loans, but then Morecambe take Emerson Sutton who we know looks a great prospect, and never seem to play him, even in non league. Maybe the youth team is better short term for some, but for CBs especially you can't beat mens football.

But also mate, and again I'm being deliberately horrible to prove a point, perhaps that development team isn't as good as it's hyped up to be.

I've not seen any real hype for the DS, except perhaps my own on the odd occasion! For me, it's the best collection of youngsters for a good while. While I don't think we get a steady stream of players for the first team coming through, I do think we'll get 2 or 3 over the next few years which is more than we have seen for a long time.

There’s been quite a lot of hype from the club. A number of youngsters have been transferred in using an “aggressive” youth strategy. Both Aussies cost 250k each. As ever, the proof will be in the pudding. Meaning, how many actually make it into the first team and from there, actually deliver. The academy also has to deliver. Kolli the only one currently coming remotely close. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| January transfer rumours on 21:34 - Dec 27 with 286 views | Pdog | Its interesting isnt it, how most in our DS are basically deemend National League South standard. Of course they need time to develop, but if they’re playing at that level and not really standing out, then something’s not working. Or they rise to the challange of a Champ game when thrown in, i dont know.. We have the 3 Aussies coming in from playing A-League 1st team in front of a few thousand to essentially playing on glorified uni pitches on a Tuesday afternoon against 18/19yr olds. You'd think they should be standing out given their background (or is their league that bad). Give them time to adapt sure, they're almost 20, Adamson soon 23. Bennie seems the closest, but even then it is unclear what his actual position is. Still young and probably need loans, but where.. National League South? Then take that Harvey Blair lad at Pompey. Had Mbengue on toast for most of 1st half. 22 and picked up from Liverpool academy for 500k. Raw yes but also real potential you could see that. More similar to Vale in the sense of higher upfront cost but much closer to 1st team than National League South. | | | |

Emerson Sutton has played 18 games for Morecamble, and it is game 24 in the national league, surely that is not “never seem to play him”? He might also been involved in a few cup games as well in those numbers. His last game was a starting 11 albeit at right back (?) and he had started quite a few league games recently. Not sure how he’s performing though but he has chalked up quite a few appearances and not just warming the bench. Even Dixon-Bonner played 2 games fewer (16) for Morecambe. [Post edited 27 Dec 22:20]

Aged 20 Jimmy Dunne was on loan at Barrow in the National League. I think Centre backs are more akin to goalkeepers; they take a bit longer to ripen.

Sorry, but if you're an 18yo + and the loan is to National League South/North then forget it. Stephen Duke McKenna who played 10 games for us is at Harrogate, bottom two of L2. Betache is in the US at some weird club. We've produced nothing over the past 5 years. Maybe Bennie and the SA lad might come through, but the rest are there to make up the numbers. And I really want the DS to produce players. Why do you think Nourry has said we need to sell? To buy in better players.
