FIFA World Cup thread. 12:02 - Nov 15 with 126828 viewsSnipper

I’m trying to get excited about this World Cup, but to no avail :-((.

I’ve just watched Sky Sports World Cup preview with Gary Neville, Jamie Redknapp, Jamie Carragher & Karen Carney. Utterly depressing viewing. Same old, same old. Picking players for the starting XI not playing for their clubs, or totally off form.

I’m hoping this thread can get the juices flowing.

Do any of you think England have a chance?

Officials basically fleeing for their safety there. Remarkable scenes.

And they’re normally such level-headed chaps.

He bit for a second too. Thought we might have a player / ref scrap.

Why would Uruguay take their strikers off when this was only ever one South Korea goal away from coming down to them scoring loads of goals against Ghana?

Not only the two strikers but also the no. 10 who’d already scored twice today. Bizarre management, almost like he was unaware of the consequences.

If ref had walked away, he would have ended up booking or sending off half the Uruguay squad

Was that Pochettino in the BBC studio? Did they take the opportunity to ask him about whether he was interested in the QPR job?

BBC2 decided they'd had enough and ending coverage with 2 minutes to go was unbelivable

Great finish to the game, been a really good tournament

I think Suarez was on course for a 2nd yellow,so probably wise to take him off.I can’t understand why they took off Nunez though, but who cares. The cheating diving Uruguayans are out.

Absolutely scandalous that the 2nd Japan was given. Albeit funny.

I now take this back. I am not in the UK and had not seen all of the coverage.

I don’t want you all to think I am a Souness-type nutter.

Ghana did their best to put them through by losing the game.It was South Korea who went through by beating portugal.

Seny on the England game.

Nothing meaningful said really but nice to see him involved.

The split second timing of Son’s pass to put Hwang through for the winner was a thing of beauty . A fraction of a second earlier and he wouldn’t have got to it and a fraction of a second later and he’d have been offside.

I hope they get the sniper that just shot Mitrovic.
Disgusting cheating behaviour, how did he not get booked?

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

If they're going to use VAR, then at least use it to punish blatant attempts at cheating like that

You wouldn’t want to play the Swiss. Tough to break down, tidy on the ball, break forward in waves and Embolo is an excellent mobile and strong 9.

If Serbia could keep their minds on the game for 90 minutes they might win the odd match.

Thats a good Serbia squad too, very poor from them. Seemed to lose their heads at the smallest things

Agreed. The was atrocious. I've been banging on about the injustice that Mitrovic got at the last World Cup when he was wrestled to the floor by two Swiss players and VAR wouldn't look at it even though it was a clear penalty, but no more after seeing that last night. Lucky not to get a red too, he looked like a kettle about to explode by the end as did most of the Serbs. Very poor. Feel a draw was about right and would've sent Cameroon through instead.

Only 3 teams remained unbeaten after the group games... Morocco probably the surprising one.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it
